Service is good, sausages we had were good but I would avoid the Pork Knuckle. The skin was too tough and was too chew and gummy…

This is the place if you crave for German food in the city — Sausages, Wienerschnitzel and roasted pork knuckle, apple pie. One star off because the quality may be different every time you come here. We found the pork knuckle a bit dry one time but another time it was just so yummy.

Maybe its German food. But the fact is true: Germans aren’t known for their cuisine just like the Spaniards aren’t known for their engineering prowess. When you think about what you could have in a German restaurant, all you can probably order is sausages and beers– that basically sums up Berliner. Berliner is situated on the ground floor of Olympic City Phase 3, this place seems to be devoted to restaurants as half the shops here are eateries and Berliner takes a central location in the mall next to the main entrance. The shop is well decorated in a rather un-Germanic way and the environment is a relaxing one. Back to the food though– there are various platters of, lacking for a better word, sausages. Sausages, sauerkraut and grilled chicken were the items that really caught my attention and if you are a vegan then this place might not be a good place for you. The redeeming point is that you get a whole host of beers here which you could not find elsewhere. Honestly, this place would fare better if it positioned itself as a bar which serves food rather than a restaurant that serves beer. At least that way you can explain why your menu is so limited.

«Das schmeckt mir sehr sehr gut!»(«That tastes really good!») That was what my friend after tasting the Schweinshaxe(Roasted pork knucklewith crispy skin). «Du hast recht!» I said. This is actually my second German restaurant that I really adore in Hong Kong. Or maybe my first as it seems like the King Ludwig Beerhall has been doing not so good in terms of its food. This one, on the other hard, hit it out of the park! First off, the interior design is very intriguing. The mix of classic design and the contemporary one makes this place extremely chic. Together with the arched doorways and chandeliers, this entire place smells of opulent and luxury where people can come relax and unwind. The menu is nicely designed with marbled wood, so it is rather heavy, giving it an earthy vibe. As usual, the pork knuckle is a must try here. Using the traditional Berliner method — soaking the ham hock into salty water for hours then steaming it with spices; lastly putting that into the oven to make it crispy. Every step is an art and followed meticulously. Most dishes here have big portion size and be warned not to order too much. So as the sausages platter, I believe it would take four to five people to actually finish that. Staff are very nice though do not speak German. Overall I am very impressed with it and I might try its other branches when I have time. Bis bald!

I first went to the Berliner in Discovery Bay, and one day my husband was having a sausage craving, so he looked it up and discovered there was one right near home at Olympian Mall. There are a lot of good things going on at the Berliner. If you like sausage, you need to make a trip to one of its locations. They make great German sausage, and have good quality beer to wash it down including a choice of three non alcoholic beers. On my first trip, I ordered a liter of cider, my husband looked at me funny and asked if I was sure about getting a liter. It was hot, I was thirsty, and when it arrived in the table my jaw dropped. I ended up finishing it well after are meal and with much larger forearm muscles. We ordered the wurst platter which comes with four different types of sausage, potatoes and sauerkraut. The sausage is fragrant, juicy, and flavorful. Each has its own unique taste and goes perfectly with a little Dijon mustard. Dessert here was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the dessert platter which comes served like a tower. It consists of Black Forest cheesecake, vanilla pancakes, and apple strudel. I’m a huge pancake fan, and the vanilla pancakes here are delicious. They are served with dark cherries, which I’m not a fan of, so I found myself eating them with a bit of vanilla ice cream from the apple strudel. They’re sweet, so you could be just as satisfied eating them plain. The black forest cake is decent and served with ice cream and delicious little raspberry jello slivers on the side. The apple strudel is served warm and has a nice flaky crust. Next time we get dessert here, we’re going to skip the sampler and order the vanilla pancakes. Also, try to avoid sitting outside because the road is nearby, and people often walk in between the tables.
