Bubies

I had been to Hysan Place a few times, but I had always wandered around the shops on the first two floors and had missed the lingerie section on the 6^th floor.
I had heard of Bubies a few weeks before when it got featured in a fashion blog as one of the 10 top lingerie shops in Hong Kong. I just hadn’t realized they were at Hysan!
The shop is a concession in the open plan space and it didn’t call my attention at first sight, probably because it shares the space with other shops that also sell underwear and you have to look at labels to see whether they belong to this or that shop. But once you place yourself there and start browsing around, you’ll fall for the brand.
They have two sections: one with ‘new season items’ and another with ‘sales’.
Bubbies’ style is classy, yet sexy and rather fancy than casual. They mainly sell fine lingerie, however they claim to have four different lines of products: Starters, for young clients; Main Dish, designed for the everyday life; Dessert, for those special occasions and Side Dish, their accessories. I couldn’t really tell the difference and I would describe most pieces as fine design. The real deal is the sales section where you can find exclusive designs for half their original price. A corset and panties set can cost around 400 HKD and they usually have a wide range of sizes.
The space is small and there’s only a changing room but the staff are helpful and very kind and they showed a lot of patience when I kept asking again and again for different sizes to try on.
I have found that some people (not me!) may be intimidated by the fact that it is located in an open space and everyone can check on what you’re trying on but to be honest, most people around are just women doing the same thing.
My experience buying at Bubies tells me that they not only sell beautifully looking lingerie, but they also care about the quality of the fabrics and materials that they craft it with.
