Festival Walk

Festi is like the ONLY mall in my neck of the woods so I go there pretty much for all my daily needs. They have a very nice grocery store, aka Taste that has a really good selections of… shtuff, I mean groceries! They also have a lot of clothing stores, mostly mid-​end, and some high end jewlery stores I believe on L1. There is a new theatre that just took over the old UA spot, with an ice skating range outside, there is also food court, and some nice sit down restuarants all over the mall.

Festival Walk is a hotspot for the younger crowd with plenty of clothing stores, a food court (that makes you salivate while passing through), and an ice skating rink. They also used to have a movie theater here but it closed down (we came here hoping to watch Deadpool haha). Near the Kowloon Tong MTR station.

food court, cinema, ice skating rink, a bunch of eateries like simply life, pizza express, greyhound, agnes b, cova etc. plenty of shops such as log on, laura merrier, dior, giorgio Armani beauty, hnm, Zara, Armani exchange, Pandora, links, just to name a few. being right above kowloon tong mtr station is a big bonus!

Since my daughter started school, (and when I say school, I mean the ridiculous HK school system that makes 2 year-​olds attend to go to school without parents for half a day) I have been going to Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong a lot. I would park my car at the shopping center’s parking lot and walk over to the school to drop her off.
I must say that Festival Walk is really a good all around mall for shoppers. It’s not dirt cheap low-​end, but also not snobby high-​end either, which makes it perfect for all kinds of peoples. It’s much better than the ever under construction Discovery Park mall in Tsuen Wan and have much less northern influence (rude shoppers from mainland) than New Town Plaza in Sha Tin.
What I really like is the parking lot. It is really spacious with many spots. $ 20 per hour is on the expensive side, but it is expected at a mall like Festival Walk. If you spend $ 600 or more, you can go to the customer service desk to get 2 hours free parking. Do it!
If you don’t drive, no worries. Just like many other malls, it is connected to the MTR station. Just get off at the Kowloon Tong station and get out at exit C.

Although I’ve never actually bought anything here due to price, there’s a great variety of stores. I like walking around, and the hallways are never too crowded.
The skating rink is great! They sometimes play K-​pop as well.
If you and your friends are looking for a place to hang out, I’d recommend this mall.

Festival Walk is one of my go-​to places for lunch actually, because it has such a wide variety of places to choose from in terms of dining. However Festival walk is also one of the few places that I go and I feel «at-​home» as an American ex-​pat. It feels like I just walked into Scottsdale Fashion Square or somewhere with the range of classy and high-​end products to the basic essentials. My favorite part of Festival Walk is the fact you can walk around and not feel claustrophobic during the lunch hour! Not to mention, their holiday decorations are something to write home about. In general, access to Festival Walk is pretty good — there are several buses and of course, there are always taxis available. I definitely recommend Festival Walk if you are ever in the neighborhood for food, shopping or just a nice place to go walk around and relax.

I live in the hood so I’m always here. Lol… festival walk has all the big American /​Japanese /​European brands you can think of… a mid-​class shopping mall with theater and an ice skating rink… This is one of the bigger malls in the Kowloon area where there is a supermarket, Taste, belongs Mr. LKS anyways…
For the convenience of things, MTR station right below it… which is double convenience for me cuz I’m always taking the MTR to literally everywhere…
Fairly pricey items due to brand names unfortunately no upper class brand names like Celine and/​or Hermes…
Apple Store there was packed at the door, just cuz of the iPhone 6, people just solicit in front of the retail store which I’m quite surprised that it isn’t illegal in HKG…

I know Festival Walk got a bit of a bad rep after that ‘torrential rain broke the glass roof’ debacle, but it’s got to be one the best malls for shopping in Hong Kong, for me. For one, it’s so easy to navigate around and is virtually impossible to get lost meeting someone with all the good rendezvous spaces — The Glacier ice rink, the Food Court, AMC cinema, Taste, MTR exit/​KCR exit, are just some examples. It may take a while to get your head around the escalators, but it’s not as huge or as confuddling as Elements so I always feel like I know where my feet are when I’m here.
Second, there’s an ice rink. Many a time in my childhood was spent clumsily cruising by on my rented-​out ice skates, or on the sidelines watching the old man who would skate there almost every single day. He even had a Facebook group, he was so popular. I’m not sure what’s become of the old man, but I know that this corner of Festival Walk is still good fun, and a great child-​friendly activity.
The AMC cinema is also one of the better cinemas in Hong Kong, maybe not for anything movie-​related like the soundsystem or seating (which is standard), but: that you can have nachos and siu mai along with your salted or caramel popcorn. Yum. The lovely range of cinema foods available might be because there’s nothing outstanding with the restaurants here. Instead of something like The Menu at Sha Tin New Town Plaza (only two stops away, by the way), Festival Walk has a food court and a handful of good restaurants like Greyhound, Dan Ryan’s, Rice Paper (Vietnamese), and School Food as of recently. If I’m looking to eat, I would head to Sha Tin instead.
Shopping is mostly high-​end fashion, but there is an H&M, MANGO, fcuk, and other stores of similar price range. I recently went to Oyosho here, which I think has just opened since I had never heard of them before. Oyosho offers some very affordable lingerie and cotton basics for bedtime. Definitely check this place out if you’re like me and looking to update some faded Cartoon-​covered pajamas…

Festival Walk is very convenient to get to by train — the mall is connected to the station so you don’t even have to go out to the open (but then again that’s how it is for a lot of malls in HK… we are so spoilt!) It’s only one stop away from where I live, but Festival Walk is far from bring one of my favorite malls, one reason being that the place is a maze. Unlike most malls, the escalators aren’t all in one place. For example, you might want to go three floors up from where you are, and you’ll find yourself going up two escalators and then circling the entire mall to get to the third one. Once, I was there to catch a movie and about ten minutes before it started, I realized I wanted a drink and I didn’t want to be paying exorbitant theatre prices — so I went down to the supermarket Taste. Taste is at the lowest floor where the MTR station is, and the cinema is at the third highest floor. This meant going four floors down, which doesn’t SEEM like a lot. But it took me more than ten minutes to go down, buy a drink and pay (this didn’t take long — was in and out of there in two minutes) and come back up. I tried waiting for lifts, which are tucked in a corridor where the toilets are. I waited for three minutes, got frustrated and just decided to go with the erratically-​placed escalators.
That’s my main complaint with Festival Walk. There’s a nice range of restaurants to choose from there, like Jasmine (a Chinese restaurant), King’s Palace (serves congee and noodles) and Simply Life (a western café restaurant). Besides H&M, there isn’t much shopping for me there because the shops are generally high-​end.
Overall, Festival Walk is in my opinion a very family-​friendly mall. You could bring your kids out to catch a movie or ice-​skate at the rink (or both)! The top floor is pretty much dedicated to children’s clothes so you can stock up for your kids too. However, the layout of the mall is a pain and there isn’t much shopping for me to do, so this really is just a three-​star mall for me at best!
