Hong Kong Records

Hong Kong Records used to be the place we would come to all the time. back when we used to use CD players. I remember buying my first CD player back in the 90s here in Pacific Place and then went here to buy CDs. It was great because they had every CD imaginable as well as all the newest hits behind the counter. You could spend all your time here listening to CD’s looking for the song that touched your heart when you were a child.
They have a great selection of electronics as well including headsets and such. Back when these things were more readily used and important it was like being a kid in a candy store. Now that things have transitioned past the «CD era» I don’t know how a place like this continues to stay in business. No matter. If you are in fact looking for a CD or a DVD, then this is where you should be!

I get that DVDs and CDs may be a dying media format, especially with the advent of on-​demand on your telly box, however, should you ever find yourself wanting to get a physical disc, you would do well to come to Hong Kong Records in Pacific Place.
What I like the most about this store, is that is it big. It’s not the pile ‘em high sell ‘em cheap style DVD shops in Mong Kok, but has displays promoting movies, games and music, including in-​store charts and new releases. The aisles are wide and spacious, so you can browse to you hearts content without having some one rub past you.
The stock here is good (I suppose the advantage of having a decent chunk of real-​estate), so they have plenty of Western and Asian titles, both movies and music. What they don’t have on display, they can check for you on their internal database. I have never actually flummoxed the staff with my movie requests, and I ask for some very obscure titles. Unfortunately, especially with the movies, they don’t section by genre very well like HMV, so all English titles not in the charts, are displayed alphabetically in one giant section. It’s great if you know what you want, but not particularly good if you are just browsing.
For the music, there are no listening stations. They do have a separate classical room at the back, but there are no CDs to sample. Again, great if you know what you want, but not great for browsing.
They do have a good games section, with lots of titles across the platforms. They often have aggressive sales on with the games, such as 50% off Wii titles.
Last note, they do have a «membership» stamp card which allows you to collect stamps on buying X amount of dollars per visit, but these cards expire, so if you want to buy, buy fast!
