Very homey atmosphere, but still comfortable and clean. Tasty food. Love the lunch buffet.

Good, solid Indian restaurant on Hollywood Rd. conveniently close to the mid-levels escalators. They were one of the few restaurants open during a typhoon warning and I was really glad for it. Menu was pretty standard — had the samosas, rogan josh lamb, baingan barta, garlic naan, and a beer. It did not disappoint. Cozy atmosphere on second floor off the road. Would definitely go back.

If you are not actually looking for Jashan, it can be pretty difficult to find. You would have to take an elevator to the upper level, despite it being on the«1/F». We read about Jashan’s buffet on the internet as one of the top restaurants to eat at in Hong Kong and decided to check it out. Unfortunately the buffet is only during lunchtime and we were not aware of that. It is a la carte at dinnertime. Oh well. We got there around 6:30pm and were the only ones there(even until after we finished and left). We were each given a complimentary shot of tomato soup, which was quite delicious. We then ordered the keema samosa, garlic naan, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and basmati rice. The keema samosa order came with 4 samosas and 2 dipping sauces. It is lamb and was just delightful, not too gamey. They did mix up our chicken tikka masala order and gave us chicken tikka, which we sent back. The older man who appears to be the owner was extremely apologetic for his mistake since he was the one who took our order. I really did enjoy the food, however I did find the food to be nothing but rather your typical Indian food restaurant. Note that your bill will come with an automatic service charge of 10% like many restaurants in Hong Kong. We were pretty annoyed because after we gave our payment, no one brought our change back. Turns out they had forgotten about the change… probably because the younger man was too busy multi-tasking(AKA likely texting away) on his phone. Overall the food was pretty good, but nonetheless average on the spectrum. I would probably skip the dinner and do the lunch buffet as it is cheaper and comes with a great variety. I was however turned off by the fact that they messed up our order AND forgot to give our change back considering we were the ONLY customers in there the entire time. Very bizarre and made things totally awkward.

I would classify Jashan as upmarket modern Indian cuisine, with a truly Indian ruby and russet-colored interior coupled with intimate dim lighting. What I like about Jashan is that while it serves classic Indian dishes such as tandoori chicken, it manages to blend modern cooking influences to their dishes. We went on a Thursday night and the place was halfway full. As it is an Indian restaurant, Jashan is a bit heavy-handed with the spices. This is normal but make sure to mention to your waiter if you’d like your dish less spicier than usual. The menu is subdivided into appetizers, salads and chaats, mini condiments, a variety of kebabs, lamb and seafood dishes, and a whole lot of vegetarian items. Particular standout dishes that we tried were the Bombay tawa murgh, grilled chicken on a skewer that is a popular street food in India. The chicken was tender and had a strong yogurt taste. Another tandoori dish I tried was the bharva tangri, stuffed chicken drumsticks that were so creamy and full of cheese. We finished off with a lamb masala dish, Punjabi bhuna gosht, a juicy and roasted lamb leg with the scent of fresh coriander. Service was prompt and the waiters courteous. Jashan has a lot of promotions going around, mostly buffets, such as their weekday lunch buffet and and their Sunday lunch buffet. I’m particularly interested in their Sunday buffet as it costs just $ 148 and provides a huge sampler and introduction to Indian cuisine. I will also be back to sample their lamb vindaloo and their saffron-based dishes.
