Poor management! Poor service. Made to wait over an hour while they refused to clean tables in the back because they were«short handed». But there were servers standing around. Not doing much. There was not any senior manager there but just kids working. Even without talking about the food the service was terribly lacking. Hope others had a better experience.

Ever had that feeling where the copycat item is better than the real thing? The tribute band that’s better than the original– or the fake watch that works better than the real one. This is something that’s quite common in Hong Kong, we say that we have cuisine of every kind in here but have you ever thought about this: is this what it tastes like at home? Or has been tuned to our taste buds here? Kintan is exactly that copy cat for me. It is a Japanese BBQ restaurant in Tuen Mun City Plaza. You will have a hard time finding it as it is in a non-descript corner of the mall near the baby care room(not a bad one by the way) and that’s the only reason why I went there in the first place. I was there when it had just opened its doors so I didn’t encounter the queues that my fellow reviewers seem to have experienced. The shop is newly renovated so its all very nice and clean; you also have huge tables for 4 people seating arrangement hence I suspect why there will always be queues if enough people came. The food itself was good– for the price you pay. A dinner set that’s enough to serve 4 would set you back around 400(there was a discount on) which I think its really good value in terms of what you are getting in food and the environment. Would you be getting this in Japan? I suspect not, because this would constitute a feeble copy. Is it good enough for me if I just want a Japanese-esque BBQ? Bring it on– I so going back there!
