I couldn’t agree more with the previous reviewer regarding the staff and the service at this restaurant. I went early in the day, one family was there and myself. Immediately upon walking in I felt like I was bothering them to be seated. I waited over 10 minutes to have my order taken and simply asked, «what do you want.» No smile, no pleasantries, just pure attitude. Once my food came, I said thank you, again nothing, the server walked away with such attitude. This ruined the experience so much, not to mention the extremely over priced mediocre(at best) food. I finished eating and had to hunt down the staff(in the now empty restaurant) to pay the bill. I travel for a living and eat at restaurants all over the world. I can undoubtedly say this is the worst service I have ever encountered in the last 10 years of my travels. The only good thing about this place is the décor and the outside patio. If you want to be treated horribly and over charged for food go here. Otherwise keep on walking and go elsewhere.

Yesterday was my fourth time in Koh Thai. On the first two occasions, I was brought there by a friend, and the other two it was my initiative. To be honest, food has never been the driver of these decisions… it’s good enough to give it a thumbs up, but the real deal in their Wan Chai outlet is their outdoors terrace. The location is great, and if I had to rate the restaurant by features, location would get a 8⁄10. Food would be rated at 7 and service at 5. Yeah, service just gets a pass. I have never had a warm welcome, neither have I managed to secure a reservation, ever. I’ve made reservations through their website and call them to double check and they NEVER had any records of my requests… I also have the feeling that they are pretty careless with customers. Nevermind, after all, you go to this place to enjoy a night out while taking some fresh air. Their food is okay: I’ve tried the Yum Som O(pomelo and prawns) which, flavor wise was excellent, but overpriced(95HKD!!!). The curries are good too, smooth and rich but again, overpriced. And it goes on like this… So, why do I keep going there? Possibly the atmosphere(ignore the service for a moment). The terrace is a little packed, but it’s a nice spot in the middle of the high rises in Wan Chai. It can get warm at times, I must admit, but on those days when the breeze happens to come by the city, it feels lovely there. So, yeah, you can say, I kind of have a thing for their terrace, that’s it.
