a bit pricey, but good atmosphere, tasty food and close to my house.

Love this place! The atmosphere and the staff are great! Having just spent a week + in Thailand I can say the flavor of the food here is richly authentic. They have a full bar offering liquor, beer and wine.

The food is great. But the service is so incredibly slow its takes away from the whole experience. I’ve dined in house and waited a staggering time for food and I’ve ordered take away, told it would take 15 – 20 minutes but in reality it took over 50 minutes… Unfortunately because of the poor kitchen management it’s unlikely I would return here nor recommend to friends.

I liked Koh Thai a lot. The upstairs balcony has great ambience, but they don’t serve liquor, so you have to buy a drink downstairs and carry it up. The curries were especially delicious but the Pad Thai was very bland. The mixed vegetables dish also had good flavor but the shrimp in it were not flavorful at all.

Being half Thai, I can safely say that this is NOT good Thai food. It’s overly sweetened and all of the curries are ruined with far too much coconut cream. My favourite Thai dish, Gai Yang(or BBQ chicken) arrives looking like it has been caught up in a bar brawl so even if the taste is ok, you can’t quite bring yourself to put it in your mouth. I was once also served a coconut full of mould. Given that the restaurant chopped it open and lifted the top in order to insert a straw, I was baffled that the foul black, fuzzy growth wasn’t noticed. Yuck. I was even more surprised about the staff’s inability to apologise for the huge oversight. However, I live just around the corner and if you’re looking for a nice, quiet terrace to enjoy a drink with friends, Koh Thai ticks the boxes. The lush greenery makes you forget your seconds away from the traffic horns of Robinson Road and the peaceful mosque across the street extends the experience. They serve my favourite rosé wine — Whispering Angel, which feels like the perfect drink for the setting. The couches are comfortable and the parasols provide shade from the hot sun. However, it is SO frustrating that the terrace is not pet-friendly. It just makes no sense to me. It confuses me further that they have been fine with animals in the past but now go into a complete state of panic if you bring your pet in. Consistency please people! Dog ban and rotten food aside, the setting really is second to none for the area.

I have travelled to Thailand a lot. I love the people, the diving, the culture, but most of all, the food. Thai food is great, and Koh Thai is my favourite Thai restaurant in HK. To me it is really well made Thai food, that is very close to the genuine article. Located on Mosque Junction by the esco(there is a branch in Wan Chai), it is not the most convenient location, but really, how far away if anything in HK anyway? The venue has a dining room on the ground floor, but also a roof terrace on the first floor. The dining room can get a little crammed as it is an odd shape(sort of triangular), but the roof terrace is lovely and open, whilst still managing to be private and intimate, even though it is looked over by the neighbouring apartments. The best time of year up there is Sept/Oct. Just the right temperature. The food is great. I get that a lot of people equate Thai food with street food on sticks, that looks like a bag of old rusty spanners, but this is different. The food is made in an impossibly small kitchen, but comes out well presented and delicious. I always get the sweet and sour fish, which is a whole fish, deboned and filleted, then battered and deep fried, before being put back into the whole fish carcass(sorry, couldn’t think of a nicer word) and slathered in sweet and sour sauce. It is so good. Pad thai is also excellent, with plenty of good stuff and not too much noodle, as is the spring rolls, lots of filling with minimal wrapping. Koh Thai also does take out, and what I love about their take out, is that they pack it sympathetically. And what I mean by this, is that the fried stuff is loosely foil wrapped, so it stays hot and crispy. Last note, they also have a junk boat package, so you can have Thai food on a boat — ohhh, the novelty! And a happy hour — yeay!
