I lived in North Point for a few years, and back then, Oedo at Island Place became somewhat of a regular Sunday afternoon lunch place for my mother and I. We both adore Japanese food for their not over-the-top portions and the relatively milder tastes compared to other cuisines like Korean and Indian food. Oedo is located in Island Place along King’s Road. If I’m not wrong, the closest MTR exit to it is Exit B. It’s right next to the stationery shop Amelia’s — I’m familiar with it because I would always make a quick trip to Amelia’s when I’m waiting for the food to arrive just to wander around or to buy some pens for school. Oedo offers pretty good value lunch sets even on weekends. My mother and I both love the tempura sets here. I try not to order tempura at Japanese restaurants because I feel that they break me out, but I can’t help it here because the tempura is so good! Firstly, it’s not very oily, and the ingredients all taste really fresh. I just can’t get enough of their shrimp tempura! At Oedo, they are very generous with the radish that you mix into your soya sauce. This is great because I love radish, and there’s so much of it I can pretty much coat my tempura in radish and soya sauce! Another set I love to order here is the black cod fish. I don’t normally like fish, but Japanese cod fish is an exception. The fish here is extremely soft, silky and buttery, and it’s really easy to pick out the fish meat from the bone. I feel as though the portion of this is smaller than the tempura sets though. If you live in North Point, I would really recommend for you to check out Oedo. Since it’s located near the office areas, it gets crowded even during lunchtimes on weekdays, so remember to make a reservation before hand! Oedo also does teppanyaki, but I’ve not tried it before. I usually see that the seats at the teppanyaki bar are fully occupied though, so I suspect that it’s probably not bad too!
