If you are going to go up and back down as a hint tell them in advance or else you will be paying $ 28 twice. If you tell them in advance its $ 40. It’s a 5 mins ride up to the peak. Not much to see when you are on the tram. It’s basically building after building on one side and on the other some green. It’s crazy pack and busy to the point you don’t get a chance to see what’s on display. This is a one time thing for a tourist.

«We believe all sorts of things that aren’t true. We call it history.»(Apologize for the Wicked reference). I am a huge fan of history and devoted quite a long time studying that during college actually. So knowing that there is a history museum, regardless of its big or small, I just have to pay a visit. Anyways, since its opening in 1926, the peak tram connects Central to Victoria Peak and has now become one of the most must-go attractions in Hong Kong. And over the years, there are numerous movies, local or foreign, chose to film some scenes at the tram in Hong Kong because of its reputation. However, how many people actually know about its history? Therefore, in 2007, The Peak Tram Historical Gallery was opened with hundreds of memorabilia on display allowing tourists to go back in time and see how it all started. The best of this museum is that it is never too crowded and if you wish to escape the ever-growing crowds, come take a break while have a glimpse at the replica of the first generation Peak Tram. Also, it is free of charge and you may enter at Lower Terminus.

For those who’ve taken a Peak Tram to the Peak, have you ever noticed there’s actually a small museum right next to you, or the queue? I guess most of you haven’t. Perhaps you were chatting with your buddies happily, or just busy dealing with the whatsapp messages on your smartphones, or, the station was just packed like sardines. Now I tell you — it’s time to learn something! As a history-holic, history is never a boring matter since it indeed reflects what happened in the past, and you can figure out some interesting things back then which connects to the present. A case in point — the Peak Tram. Having been a popular transportation means since 1888, the Peak Tram has undergone tremendous changes throughout these 126 years. After you successfully get through the gate, you’ll see the haulage room of the Peak Tram, which is the starting point of the Peak Tram Historical Gallery. It was the electrically-powered system used starting from 1926, replacing the steam-powered engine. This has facilitated the operation of the Peak Tram, and there hasn’t been any blunder until now. Moving a little forward, an oldest tram carriage model is displayed. Passengers’ seats were divided in three classes back then. With a plaque etched«This seat is reserved for His Excellency, the Governor», the first two seats in the first-class session was reserved to the Governor. These two seats would remain vacant until two minutes before departure. Therefore, if the Governor didn’t show up, the ones would feel honoured to have the chance to be seated there. The next section is where most of the elderly people can echo with — the tramway staff. Though I was supposed to be a tour guide for the elderly, I was actually learning something from them — as they were the storytellers who did have such EXPERIENCES in the past! When they saw the uniform and the Bell Punch, which was a ticketing process to pitch a hole on the ticket, they reacted with«Yes! The staff dressed like that in the past!» or «It was the memory when I was still a girl!» Indeed it was a rewarding learning opportunity! So, grannies were not just about nagging. Sometimes it’s unexpectedly meaningful to go back to the«old Hong Kong» with them ;) The remaining sections are left for you to explore. Hope you’ll enjoy getting to know the Peak Tram history despite the long queue!
