SOGO Supermarket

This is located at the basement of Sogo Department store. It carries many Japanese products, so it is a good place for this purpose. It is a rather large and spread out place. There are also some eateries in here. During special occasions, it has a festive feel.

The Sogo supermarket, located at the basement 2 floor of Sogo, is a pretty good grocery store. As Sogo is a Japanese department store, the supermarket stocks a large variety of Japanese products. Here, you’ll be able to shop among a decent selection of Japanese things like chips and instant noodles. I like stocking up on instant noodles here — they make for wonderful midnight snacks! There are also lots of little promotional counters where you can sample food. Some promoters are a bit pushy in my experience though so best not to go around trying everything when you have no intention of buying anything.
One thing that sets this particular supermarket apart from others is the number of little snack and pastry stores towards the end section. There’s Beard Papa, which I adored as a kid, and some cakeries and Japanese biscuits stores. The cakes all look wonderful but are on the pricy side. There’s also Milk Top ice cream, which is one of my favorite places to get ice cream due to the relatively more affordable prices and the unique flavors — like cream cheese and sumiyaki coffee. The bakery, DONQ, is always super packed and with good reason — you constantly see new carts of bakes being pushed out fresh from the oven so you know everything is fresh!
The downside is that this is one of the most crowded supermarkets I know. On weekends, it’s especially busy and if you’re just looking to pick up one item, it’s irritating because you have to weave through all the crowds.
