So if you’re looking for a place to down a beverage around Tung Chung then this place is ideally situated. I’ve been here twice, both times after coming back down from the Big Buddha and with HK weather being warm and humid, by the time you walk past here you will be craving a cold beer! There is an outdoor seating area which overlooks the courtyard between the Tung Chung MTR station and the Citigate shopping complex. We spent about 90 minutes sitting here last visit — just relaxing and soaking in the atmosphere and people watching. They had a poster for frozen slushy Asahi beer which turned out to be only frozen froth and is like eating bitter ice … not particular tasty!

If there’s a nightlife in Tung Chung, I haven’t heard about it. The closest I’ve gotten to a roaring good time late at night in TC has been by the Tung Chung Post Office at night when everyone picks up drinks from the much-loved Club 711, or 7Eleven to all the sober consumers. Starz Wine Bar doesn’t stay open till late, so it doesn’t hold a candle to the cockroach infested corner of 7/11, but it is a good place to go for post-work drinks with a friendly neighbour, or for some day-beers to go with your snacks before movie time. I’m a chicken wings fiend(who isn’t in Hong Kong?) and the plate of wings here are pretty good. They go down well with your Stella, Hoegaarden, Guiness, or whatever your beer of choice is. As for bigger meals, I would recommend their laksa which — although not as good as my own ha ha — is pretty satisfying with prawns, bean sprouts, a boiled egg, fishcakes and tofu. Their sandwiches and burgers aren’t half bad either. Ashamed to say it but although this IS a self-proclaimed wine bar, I haven’t tried their wine list. I feel like a lot of people who go here are, like me, swept away by the(usually hot, sunny) day and prefer an ice cold beer in the open air to a heavy bottle of red. At least, that’s what I’ve noticed from my people-watching here. Starz is NOT rowdy — rather: it’s a really chill place to share a few drinks with your family or friends after a hard day’s work.
