Here’s my hilarious experience with this location. My wife and I wanted to try their famous steamed milk. After we were seated by the waiter, my wife and I tried to decide which item to order by calling the name on the menu. Before we know it, a bowl of hot steamed milk was placed on our table. We asked the waiter why he delivered the milk before we even place the order, his response was that we called out the name of the item while my wife and I were deciding. My wife and I looked at each other but accepted it since that’s one of the many item we like to try. My advice is use sign language when you and your party try to decide what to order, otherwise you will end up more item than you can eat. Go there off lunch hour if you don’t to share table with stranger. One word of caution, the steamed milk is very hot, take it easy on the first sip or you will get a burned throat. Bad business practice, a lady was sweeping the floor while we were eating.

Seriously. Why do not have this in the states?! Maybe they do but I have never seen such a delectable dessert such as this steamed milk/egg combination! One of the more well known joints, it’s cash only and usually ample seating. There is a take away option but considering you will probably finish your dessert within the minute you get it, pull a seat and savor each bite. The only con is how it leaves you wanting more more! Get it cold or hot with different choices of toppings. My favorite is ginger but others do like coffee and red bean; go with your heart. If you see dairy or cow logo, go in as it usually denotes a tasty serving of double skimmed milk! Don’t miss out on this famous Hong Kong establishment :)

Every time I think of Hong Kong, the one thing I miss most is sherng pei nai, or literal translation, double skinned milk. It’s this insanely silky and delicate egg white custard. End result: perfection. So what do I do the first thing I get off the train? Head my way over to get me some sherng pei nai. There are two spots that do them well: Yee Shun and Australia Dairy Company. Personally, I prefer Australia Dairy Company’s more since I feel they have a more fragrant milk taste to theirs but to each their own. They also offer whole egg custard, chocolate custard, and ginger egg white custard. Try them all!

Sadly, we could only order off their foreign menu since no one can read Chinese either… we resorted to pointing at photos and asking for recommendations. They barely speak English here, but we got by with my weak Canto skills… The pork chop bun is really good, and so is their sweet milk pudding. Their cold coffee pudding is also surprisingly light and delicious(not too heavy of a coffee essence, but not too light as a pudding either). I had their hot almond milk, and it hit the spot! Reminded me of my childhood but 100x better.

Came here for the Hong Kong style breakfast! macaroni + buttered toast + eggs + sausage and coffee. They have breakfast sets which makes it super quick and easy to order. Ps– since this place is so small, you’ll probably be seating with a stranger, the hk lady we sat with spoke English and wished us a good trip. How sweet of her.

Chaos! This is a popular spot and one of those places you need to go in Hong Kong. You can’t miss it, there is a queue outside. Always. But it’s good because by the time you get in, you better well know what you’re going to eat. We came in and said we were two, and were sat at a table with two others. It’s always packed in here and they will use every bit of space. So it is cramped, we were right up next to everyone else. And they took our order right away. And the food came out right away. No delay, it was chaotically fast. I didn’t even have time to think about my order before it was in front of me. Woah. But it’s damn good. Sweet milk pudding and delicious breakfast eats. And cheap as hell. I loved tasting this place and eating here. Made me thrilled and I walked away happy. Don’t miss it and be ready for anything.

Having grown up all my life eating the steamed tofu pudding with ginger sauce, I had never experienced something else so similar yet with a richer creamier flavor and smoother in texture, and I’m so glad I did. I just happened to pass by this shop a couple years ago, decided to give it a try and enjoyed the pudding so much that I brought my family on our trip this year. They also serve sandwiches and drinks but we went there just for the pudding. They served us some complimentary tea and we ordered two ginger puddings(hot and cold) and a coffee pudding. With the humid summer weather in HK right now, we all preferred the cold ones more. The coffee pudding was so creamy and custard-like, as rich as crème brûlée. In comparison, the ginger ones were much more refreshing but definitely holding much more creamy rich flavor than its tofu counterpart. Overall a deliciously pleasant experience.

I’m from San Francisco, California and this is the BEST double-boiled milk pudding I’ve ever had in my lyfeeee. I had this in China around two weeks ago and it tasted nothing like the real thing. I came here last year and I’m so excited to taste this again tonight =) It’s going to become a must/annual thing every summer!

Whenever I am in Hongkong, this is a must go place whatever time of the day. The double layer steamed milk is so awesome that my lactose intolerant friend was singing praises of the sublime texture and sweet and delicious taste all the way home to our apartment. It seemed like everyone in the shop was going for the same thing. At first glance, it looked nothing special. Probably another kind of pudding akin to our tauhuey in Singapore. Once you dig a spoon into the soft pudding and place a serving into your mouth, there is no turning back. You’ll want to finish the whole cup of it and then order more!

Another popular dessert place in Hong Kong that I often patronise. What I like most is the steamed milk and the steamed egg. The latter is a must whenever I am there and I always pick them cold especially in hot weather. I also recommend the steamed milk with ginger. They also serve other stuff such as egg sandwiches and noodles. So you can have your meal first before enjoying this. Another option to go to if not the popular Australian Dairy. Price is reasonable and my experience with the staff was a good one. Do take note that only cash payment and it can get crowded at certain times of the day. I would recommend you to go at late at night. Overall, I enjoy this dessert place and yes you should add this to your list!

this is a popular contender for your milk pudding cravings, but I think I prefer the australian company’s rendition better. this one seems a little less smooth, a little sweeter — but really, if you’re new to this, the differences are marginal. both places serve a simple menu of local teatime classics, like egg sandwiches, instant noodles and spam — it probably seems pretty strange to first-time visitors, but these cheap staples make an easy choice for harried city people.

Pretty good, but kinda overpriced for just milk pudding, considering they are all premade. They have regular cha cheng teng food as well, but its not very good. Their milk pudding comes in a variety of flavours, good for the summer.

YUM!!! I’m so bummed I discovered this place on the last day of my trip. I had to come twice in one day to make up for not discovering this place sooner! The steamed milk desserts are so delicious and creamy. I tried the original, steamed milk with ginger juice and the one with lotus nut. I would highly recommend all three! Service is super super fast. Cash only. EngIish menus available upon request!

Steamed Milk Pudding or Steamed Milk with Two Films 雙皮奶 shuang pi nai is one of the most popular Chinese dessert in Hong Kong. It is generally a steamed milk pudding 炖奶 dun nai. Other names may include steamed milk with egg white, steamed milk with ginger juice, double milk skin, double boiled steamed milk… or however you’d like to fathom the literally translation. Steamed Milk with Two Films is made of milk, egg white and sugar. It can be served hot or cold. I personally prefer hot steamed milk pudding. During our trip to Hong Kong, I was told Australia Dairy Company Hong Kong 澳洲牛奶公司 had the best shuang pi nai. But seeing how it was such a Hong Kong tourist attraction, I believe Yee Shun Dairy Company 港澳義順牛奶公司 is smoother. For $ 25HKD(approx $ 3CAD), this was a steal to sit down and relax over some deliciously silky smooth pudding. Similar to a tofu pudding, Yee Shun Dairy Company HK Steamed Milk Puddings are creamier and has a sweetened milk fragrance. With eat bite, I hope that my skin will also be transformed to that of a new born’s. So I tried to recreate this at home with a simple steamed ginger milk custard recipe. Many things can go wrong and you will be easily disappointed. Often this milk won’t set properly or you will overcook the milk. With this step by step recipe, you will master the two step process of boiling and cooling down the milk. Of course, like most Hong Kong Cafes, Yee Shun Dairy Company Hong Kong also offers cha chaan teng dishes like creamy egg and ham sandwich. Always toasted. Always no crust. Look at just how juicy this whole egg toast is! Please let me know if you know where the best steam milk pudding is in Hong Kong! I’d love to add it to my list for my next trip!

The last time I visited hong kong, I think I’ve eaten at Yee Shun(not particularly this location, but wherever Yee Shun is near me) every day. No matter how full I was, I always had room for this bowl of goodness. Plus I can’t find this in the states, so why not splurge every night with a bowl of «double skinned milk»? *drools* It’s pretty much steamed milk custard-like dessert. This smooth tofu like dessert can be eating cold or hot — I prefer hot. It’s like pudding but not dense and not overly sweet. The texture is super smooth(think super silken tofu) service is fast because I think they make a lot in the back already and if your order cold, it’s even faster. they also have different flavors to choose from. I don’t remember what other options there are but I usually stick to my «double skinned milk»

This place does something that is truly«local» — actually the first time I had it was in Macau– but anyways, this is something that I have not found anywhere else. As far as my knowledge serves me this was actually«born» in the Guangdong area and is not something particular to Hong Kong or Macau for that matter. Yee Shun does something called«double skinned milk” — the best way to describe it would be milk that has been churned into a tofu like state. This is served either hot or cold and the taste is sublime; just imagine a bowl of custard without the numbing sweetness. This is of course, a dessert. Some may liken it to bowl of sweet to fu and this would be near that in terms of texture– but the smooth taste of milk is simply streets ahead. There are several other falvours too including chocolate which I have not tried– I have always thought that we should stick with the most original incarnation as there must be a reason why they made it that way in the first place. You will see that the restaurant also serves other items– cooked food such as fried eggs and macaroni in soup. These are staples for local cha charn tengs and I guess to stay competitive they have had to widen the products they have on offer. This is not a cheap place per se because you do have to fork out some 20 – 30 dollars for the bowls of churned milk; which to me is extortion to some sense. However, what is cheap in Hong Kong these days?
