I asked Siri the best places to eat pizza in Cork, Ireland and Uncle Pete’s was listed #1. The pizza was tasty, not the best I’ve ever had. I would like for the crust to have been crisper. The Greek salad was fresh, laden with Feta cheese and regular black olives. Kalamata olives are the only acceptable olives on a Greek thus, olive fail. The atmosphere was okay, we were there late afternoon, good music. Given the opportunity for pizza in Cork again I would try something else for comparison.

More so than almost any other ethnic cuisine I can think of, Irish food is incredibly homogenous, and eventually you will need a break for your stomach to process all that meat. When in a foreign country with strange faces on the money and strange interpretations of what Americans want to eat, your safest bet will always be pizza. Uncle Pete’s is a cute little place, just a few tables, with classic movie posters for décor and classic tunes playing quietly over the speakers. Even a simple dinner of Caesar salad and pizza was an oasis of calm for my tummy, and although neither was world-class it was just what I needed. The spaghetti and meatballs I saw being carried to another table looked awesome as well. If you happen to be in Cork and feel like letting globalization creep into your menu, set down here for something familiar, tasty, and cheap.

In the foodie epicenter of Ireland, you might overlook this little bistro on Paul street in favor of the other big hitters, but you’d do so at your own peril. We ended up coming into Uncle Pete’s for dinner after three or four other restaurants were too full on a Friday night and we’re so glad we did. Not only is the atmosphere super laid back and friendly, but the food is way beyond what you’d expect for the price. We had a Middle Eastern salad as a starter(delicious, share the large portion) and Irish Stew and a delicious seafood pizza for dinner. Really perfect portions and great flavor. For dessert we couldn’t resist the strawberry cheesecake that was thicker than the brick walls. Amazing. Plus, the menu looks great for all tastes, even kids. The service was extra friendly(it’s Ireland, afterall) and quite timely, despite the fact that there were just two servers for the whole restaurant. Plus, you get all this foodie goodness for about the same price as you’d pay for any bland pub food. With a bottle of wine, starter, two mains, dessert and coffee, we still clocked in at under 50 euro. Now that’s one helluva deal. Highly recommended for lunch or a relaxed dinner. Slainte!

Pizzas & Pastas are great. Home burgers too. Fast and helpful service. Reasonably priced too and in the center of the city — next to Tesco in Paul str.
