1916 Rebellion Walking Tour

Amazing experience. The tour guide was hilarious and full of information. Learned lots and laughed from start to finish.

Today myself and a bunch of friends took this two-​hour walking tour and it was just fascinating from beginning to end.
We all met in the international bar, where we met our tour guide, Shane.
Shane spoke very clearly and confidently and sucked us all in with his knowledge of Irish history!
Once we left our meeting point, we where brought back in time to relive the events of Easter week 1916, though Shane’s retelling of events. My favourite part was walking into Trinity college and hearing of the drama within Trinity College in the days of the Easter raising,
Shane then took us towards OConnell Street with story’s about the march of the rebels to the General Post Office!
I grew up in Dublin, but today I felt like I got to see it in a different light with the beautiful old historical buildings and events that shaped our country into what it is today!

Don’t miss this tour if you love history and delight in the Irish gift of gab. Lorcan Collins is a real expert in his subject, an author and editor on a series of books dealing with the rebellion of 1916. My granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the very reasonably priced tour and learnt so much in the 2 hour walk.

My family and I were on vacation in Ireland and stopped in Dublin for two days. Out of the Trinity College walking tour and the Pub Crawl walking tour, I can easily say this was by far the most entertaining and informational.
Lorcan is a very engaging speaker and is obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about well, anything to do with Ireland that has or will involve some sort of conflict.
The only way someone could think this tour isn’t worth 5 stars is if they’re offended by the anti-​English crown humor. If that’s the case though, I’d recommend getting out of the Republic of Ireland.

I so enjoy a great walking tour to point out the things I’d pass right on by without noticing, learning what seemingly-​ordinary things are steeped in fascinating history — this is that tour.
And a great guide has passion for his subject that is infectious — Lorcan Collins is that guide.
It’s a well-​planned and well-​executed operation — meeting at The International Bar downstairs, learning a bit of background history, meeting tour-​mates and setting off to spots relevant to events leading to the Easter Rising. But also throughout, other bits of Dublin history and musings on post-​Celtic Tiger Dublin today. If you have a question or ask for an opinion, you’ll get it here. Beware, the man loves to talk and he talks fast, so be prepared to engage your mind and keep up — haha, don’t come hungover!
I actually lost my curious-​and-​easily-​distracted husband on the tour. When reunited at the end point, we all had a laugh and Lorcan passed him a free copy of the book he wrote on The Easter Rising to fill in the gaps he missed. Such a cool guy.
The International Bar meeting point is a great pub, too! Enjoyed a pint and some Guiness stew to the sounds of a trad session with 6 or so musicians. And an ancient, toothless man in a suit leading one 10-​minute-​long toast after another.

The 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour starts in the International pub and goes to different spots in the city that relate to the Uprising. It lasts two hours and a half and ends at the GPO. The tour is well worth 12 Euros and is a delightful way to spend an afternoon. Walking around is the perfect way to get to know a city.
One of the men who leads it, Lorcan Collins, strikes a good balance between being serious and making jokes. He comes across as being very knowledgeable about Irish history and in fact, co-​wrote a book on the Easter Rising. He doesn’t just lecture the crowd instead preferring to interact with the diverse mix of people. He might poke fun at you, but it’s all done in good spirit.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn about this important chapter of Irish history.

The Easter Rising in 1916 is one of the most important events in Irish history and sowed the seeds of the formation of the Republic of Ireland. This walking tour will take you to some of the key locations of the battle around the city of Dublin. The tour guides include a couple of guys who have written a very good book on the subject, so they really know their stuff.
Most of the places where the main events took place are still pretty much as they were then, so this tour really brings the history to life.
The guides will point out bullet holes in buildings and statues which brings home how recent the insurrection actually was.
It’s a fascinating story, made even more enthralling by the tour’s ability to put you in the scene, as it were. Stories of sniper wars, ill fated action, and ultimate defeat worthy of a Shakespearean tragedy.
The tour meets every day at the International Bar on Wicklow Street, and takes a couple of hours, so although the pace isn’t too punishing do wear comfortable shoes!
