A/Wear

Love this place! When I came to Dublin back in August 2009, I didn’t realize how cold it was here. All I had in my luggage were shorts and tanks because I was heading to Spain and isn’t August the summer time? Apparently in Dublin, it’s always cold. So, I stopped by here to basically stock up on cardigans and pants. The materials are very nice and very affordable. Cashiers were great too. They were able to run my credit card in USD instead of Euros so I wouldn’t be charged the Foreign Currency Fee on my credit card.

Smile it won’t hurt your cheeks! They had some good deals on there today and i got a nice jacket for € 20 down from € 75 but the cashier was pretty grumpy looking! She should be happy as A-​wear will not be closing down after going into receivership.

I am loving the designer dress section of A-​Wear at the moment. This shop in particular is lovely and big with a great selection. You get yourself a student discount as usual.
The staff there were more than helpful. Nothing to complain about really, but sure who wants to complain — I could spend my day looking at their lovely dresses!

So this is a review for both the physical store and Awear’s online presence. Awear recently ran a promotion for a 100 euro Sunway voucher with every 50 euro purchase. As I often buy Awear clothing and I happen to have a holiday to Italy booked with Sunway I thought this would be a win-​win situation. What transpired was a debacle of bad customer service.
Firstly I asked on the Awear Facebook Page if the voucher could be used on an existing holiday or if it had to be a new one, Awear replied that they didn’t know and advised me to contact Sunway. The fact that they didn’t know the terms of their own promotion was a little weird but ok probably better to get confirmation from the horse’s mouth. Thankfully a very nice gentleman at Sunway confirmed that yes I could use it and told me to get in touch when I had the voucher in hand. (I later looked on the Facebook Page again to see another customer saying she had gone to an Awear store and they informed her it had to be a new holiday so she didn’t make a purchase. Talk about mixed messages.)
As I work a lot and the nearest Awear store is a good 30 mins walk away I decided to purchase 50 euro worth of gear on their website and have it delivered to my office, I had had my eye on a lovely burgundy dress anyway. On the homepage of their website there was an advert for the same Sunway promotion assuring that anyone who spends 50 would get the voucher (the picture said terms and conditions apply but when you clicked on it it just brought you to new in store, terms couldn’t be found anywhere on the site). Awear customer service confirmed to me over the phone that my purchase qualified and the voucher would come in the package, great I thought! Only it didn’t come.
I called Awear customer service when I received my package sans voucher and they assured me they would send a new one. The dress was a bit snug so I decided to exchange it in store for the next size up (By now a few days had passed and it was a late night shopping day so I could make it to the shop on Grafton street before closing). The dress also had two areas of poor stitching on it along the zip but fortunately there was a perfect one in the shop in the desired size. While I was at the till I mentioned to the girl working there that I didn’t get the voucher in the post and she just whipped one out of the drawer and handed it to me after checking my receipt. I’m glad she did because one week later I’m still waiting for Awear customer service to forward me on my missing one…

I am in love with A-​Wear, it has to be one of my favourite places to shop. The prices of clothes aren’t too bad, although I find the jewellery is ridiculously over-​priced for what it is (hardly real silver or gold!). Although that didn’t bother me much when I got paid, I had 200 euro to blow so I got quite a bit of jewellery with that! — and no I didn’t spend all 200 euro on necklaces in A-​Wear.
They have a good selection on Grafton Street, better than most. I also like the one on Henry Street but not the one in Dun Laoghaire. Good Lord, that place is one hell of a kip. I don’t know where they get their clothing selection from, it’s like they took it out of a rubbish bin and labelled it ‘A-​Wear’. Personally I think A-​Wear in Dun Laoghaire shopping centre would make a great nightclub. But that’s another matter.
All in all, Grafton’s street’s A-​Wear is, as Kate M. said, cheap and cheerful. Def one of my favourite clothes shops.

A-​wear is cheap and cheerful fashionable clothes, and most importantly it’s Irish. It’s like an Irish topshop I guess, but a little bit cheaper and not quite as good! I do like their stuff, but it’s not amazing quality. It has come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years and for what you pay, it is good value. They’re always really up to date in terms of trends etc.
They stock everything from jeans, to dresses, jewellery and bags and recently they’ve teamed up with buffalo shoes.
They’ve started to branch out to the UK too in the last year or so, which is a testament to their success in our little island. They’re regularly popping up in the British glossy magazines and on shows like Gok Won’s fashion fix. Not bad for a little Irish clothes shop, ha!

A-​Wear is Irish and stylish — just like me! Ok, well we’re both definitely Irish anyway…
It’s the place to go if you need to pick up some casual clothes or office threads at a reasonable price. The Grafton Street store offers three floors of fashionable, affordable, colourful designs and trendy accessories. When it comes to the Grafton Street shop, the floor that you gravitate towards will tell you your fashion credentials/​financial status — the bottom floor is bargain basement and old-​lines, the middle floor is standard prices and current lines and the top floor is the pricier guest-​designer lines. I have a feeling that the recession has brought with it an over-​populated bottom floor…

Stylish clothing with the best colors of the season at very reasonable prices, this is why I love A Wear.
This location has three levels, with sales section typically on the basement level. I loved that the clothes were fantastic, with flattering cuts, and there are styles for most occassions. I cannot walk in there without falling in love with at least 5 items.
