I had two one night stays here during my time studying abroad in Ireland. I’m American and this was my first hostel stay so I don’t really have anything to compare it to, but it was not terrible by any means! I’m not used to the hostel lifestyle, nor do I think I ever could be but I didn’t have a problem with Abrahams. A good experience for sure! The 8 bed dorm I stayed in had outlets on each bed frame which was beyond useful! The four bed mixed dorm I stayed in the second time around only had two outlets in the whole room so for that reason I’d rather deal with more people! I didn’t feel super dirty, but I also didn’t feel super clean. I did feel safe, though! It was worth staying in again! Breakfast left a little to be desired but hey it was free! Probably would not eat it again though, just some cereal and warm juice. If you’re a college student needing a cheap one night stay with no frills this isn’t a bad stay at all!

I had a one-​day layover in Dublin, so I decided to save on accommodations by booking a hostel. The Abrahams hostel was one of the only centrally located hostels available at the last minute. € 18 for a four-​bed dorm room with an en suite bathroom was a budget friendly price; however, I wasn’t expecting any bells and whistles.
After landing in Dublin on a Tuesday afternoon, I hopped on the Airlink Express bus, which dropped me off on Gardiner Street, just a short walk from the Abrahams hostel. The street was lively, with lots of people out and about. The hostel by contrast was relatively quiet. The reception area was a functional space that featured a few uncomfortable-​looking couches and a reception desk. I arrived a few hours before the check-​in time and my room was not ready, so I opted to leave my suitcase in their luggage storage room while I went out to explore the city.
I returned to the hostel later that night to retrieve my suitcase and check in. I was given linens to put on the bed and instructions to return them at checkout time. No wonder this place is so cheap, they save money by having the guests change their own sheets! I was thankful that the sheets appeared clean, but the colors were faded as if they’d been through a thousand washes.
The dorm room was narrow, cramped, and poorly lit. There were no lockers in the room and the bathroom was tiny. Each bed had its own light switch and outlet. The room was WiFi enabled, but I decided to save my eyesight and not attempt to read in the dimly lit room.
Having a bathroom en suite sounded great in theory, but in actuality it meant waking up each time someone entered or exited the bathroom. I did have my earplugs with me, but unfortunately earplugs can’t stifle sounds completely.
The complimentary breakfast consisted of toast, cereal, coffee and tea — pretty uninspiring options. Sadly, we were expected to wash your own dishes. On the plus side, the break room was large with communal tables that allowed me to meet and mingle with travelers from different countries.
The Abrahams hostel served its purpose; however, I would not recommend it! There are better hostels out there.

Let me preface my review by saying I’m a typical spoiled American, and have never stayed in a hostel before. I usually stay at the Holiday Inn Expresses (for a frame of reference). We looked for a nice hotel in Dublin but most of them were amazingly expensive or had reports of bed bugs. We rented out an entire room (four bunk beds) at this hostel so that we had privacy. The atmosphere was reasonably clean, and felt safe. You have to turn in your key every time you leave which I thought was obnoxious (why do I need to wait in line for a room I paid for) but understand it’s common in Europe. The beds were a bit rickety and I couldn’t imagine climbing to the top bunk. The bathroom was the worst part. The toilet wasn’t bolted down, the shower had two settings (cold and to hot to shower), and the sink faucets were the spring loaded water saving type. You also had to pay extra for towels. As suggested by the bowl of free ear plugs on the reception desk, it was very loud. It served its purpose as a place to stay although I wouldn’t recommend it for those who are looking to comfortable and be well rested.

I guess it’s what you can expect of a hostile. I did feel they could do more to keep it clean. I didn’t feel very safe so if you’re traveling alone, avoid this place (and definitely don’t go in the mixed dorm).

My sister and I spent 3 nights at the abraham’s house on may 2014. It was our first experience in a youth hostel and we were pretty satisfied of it. We choose a 16 beds dorm, the less expensive dorm we can find. The staff is very welcoming. And we may have been lucky but our roommates were respectful. I regret the lack of lockers in the room (you have to pay for it) and some organization problems. you can sleep in any bed in the room, just pick one when you arrive. which end up with some surprises like people coming back late in the night and finding someone else sleeping in their bed. the house is in a good area and quiet area near by foot of the city center.

Let me start by saying it’s a hostel. Before I moved here I stayed here twice and I have nothing bad to say. Friendly staff, decent beds and the manager how I love him so — He gave me a discount on my stay when I explained my situation such a lovely lovely man.

For a hostel, Abraham House did the trick (A-​OK!)
We had a private double room, enjoyed the privacy for both a bedroom and bathroom. Was clean enough, it was clear all sheets had been washed prior to our stay. There is free wi-​fi in the lobby (not the bedroom, which is too bad), so it was helpful to use when we had to re-​arrange our travel plans. Breakfast was pretty good, lots of options and can serve as much as you want for yourself (cocoa krispies, toast with jam/​butter, orange juice, coffee, canned peaches, eggs).
The area is loaded with places to stay, it’s north of the river, which is less of the area we spent our time, but an easy walk and surrounded by other hotels/​hostels. We wanted to stay here longer than we initially planned, but it was already booked up, so make sure to plan early if you want to stay here!

I respectfully disagree with the other users ratings and get the feeling that they do not stay in hostels that often. The hostel has a lot of space, is very quiet and many options at different types of accomodations. Seamus is the main the desk attendant during the day and he has a hilarious sense of humor and knows everything about Dublin as far as getting around. Their breakfast in the morning is pretty solid compared to what other hostels offer (usually bread and jelly) where Abraham House serves cereal, toast, oatmeal, fruit, coffee and other refreshments.
As for as storing luggage, Sarah D’s comment was incorrect. Staff has 1 key to that door and it is indeed locked and spacious. The hostel also is good for having hot water, which many other hostels are way too relaxed with. Location is good as its near the Bus Station and a 5 minute walk to O’Connell Street. Comparing it to other hostels in Ireland I think its a great place for the rates and service they offer.

On top of everything else (read my first review) our room’s ensuite bathroom flooded in the middle of the night. The staff decided that sopping the floor up with towels that morning was the best they could do. We had another day left on our bill but we left immediately. Honestly.

Abraham House is one of the Northside’s biggest and most established youth hostels. The staff are really welcoming and helpful, which adds to the friendly vibe throughout the hostel.
All dorms are en-​suite, and range from four to sixteen beds in size. There’s also a limited number of private double and triple rooms available.
There’s a small carpark available for guests to use (a real rarity for Dublin City Centre hostels), and the no 41 bus to and from Dublin Airport stops right outside.

Not too crazy about this hostel. I realize the whole point of staying in a youth hostel means that you are denied privacy, but I do have limits. Most of the time the hostels I’ve stayed in have three or four beds to a room – this one had 10. Ten beds, one bathroom to share and the bathroom had no door. To add to my discomfort, all nine of the 10 beds not occupied by me was full of a Swedish girl that didn’t speak one word of English and just stared at me all evening long.
And then for luggage… instead of a small private locker to store your things in, or at least a closet in your room to share with your roommates, there is one giant closet on the ground floor for stowing your luggage. This closet is unlocked at all times. For me, this takes a LOT of trust in the solidarity of my fellow human beings. Not easy for me. I hauled my luggage around with me that day just so that I knew for certain that I would still have a suitcase at the end of the day. :(
But it IS cheap… and clean enough.

An okay hostel. In a sort-​of seedy part of town, but really close to Busaras. It was clean, and the staff had a good sense of humor. My large dorm room was en suite, which was cool. It’s got a secure entry, always a plus. They also let me leave my luggage in the left luggage room for several hours after I checked out while I killed time before my flight.
