My brownie and coffe latte were warmer than the welcome! the staff wasn’t kind! Not smiling, not helpful (I asked twice the WiFi code and the waitress make me feel guilty to don’t understand it)

Buen hostel, nada fuera de lo común, barato y céntrico, a unos cinco minutos caminando de Temple Bar. Más no se puede pedir a un turista ocasional o para un cuasi larga estancia. Una cama, un servicio básico de limpieza, un baño aunque sea de uso compartido, zonas comunes tipo comedor y de ocio, lavandería y poco más. Durante mi alojamiento en este lugar, ningún problema. Sobre todo, la amabilidad por parte de los miembros del staff es excepcional y eficiente, como manda el canon irlandés. El único punto negativo lo veo el breakfast. Pobre sería una ofensa, pero no estaría de más algo más que café, té, leche, tostadas, mermelada, mantequilla y cereales. En este aspectos, los hostels de Alemania, son más abundantes.
Recomendable para quien vaya de turisteo.

The hostel was the only one I could get on a Friday night in Dublin. It cost me 30 € for a six bed room with private bathroom. It was okay taking into consideration that Dublin is not cheap in general but it wasn’t worth a cent more! The shower was cold the room small and the bathroom as small as a plane lavatory! The breakfast was included (so was wifi) but it wasn’t a great breakfast but rather very basic. The location is really central though!

Friendly staff and good location (city center). But wouldn’t recommend staying here.
The facilities aren’t quite up to par and the hostel will find different ways of charging you whereas other places may not (i.e. Purchasing a converter instead of putting down a deposit. Locker deposit will automatically deduct money for the day even if you get in early before check in time)
If you’re on a budget but don’t want to compromise on nice facilities, I’d recommend other hostels that are a little more north. Dublin is a very walkable city so it would only take you an extra 15 min to get to the city’s center.

Nettes und zentrumnahes Hostel ohne Klobürsten. Service ist echt gut. Sauberkeit ist für irische Verhältnisse echt okay, nur das hier keine Klobürsten exestieren (das fällt einem erst dann auf wenn man es braucht). Internet ist frei und wenn was ausgedruckt werden muss, ist dies auch kein Problem. Das internationale Frühstück (im Preis inklusive) ist jedoch sehr weit her geholt. Bestehend aus Toast, Müsli und Müsli in Quadern gepresst. Dazu die Milch. Dann heißes oder so ähnlich heißes Wasser für die beiden Teesorten. Auch kann man damit auch seinen Kaffee anrühren (so ein Granulatjedöns). Marmelade (daher auch Toast) aus einer Schüssel Geschmacksrichtung: Erdbeer.
Empfehlung die anderthalb Meter mit seinem Tablet weiter laufen und für n paar EUR einen Cappuccino und n Sandwich käuflich erwerben. Und nun viel Spaß in Dublin.

Good Luck trying to sleep. Not a chance in hell you will unless your absolutely hammered and even then it was difficult. The windows are open to keep the rooms cool. That means you can hear every single word that every drunk person walking down the street is arguing or yelling about as well as evey truck passing by as if its in your room. Don’t forget about the church bell that rings at 8 am. Also, the beds are extremely uncomfortable (Id much rather have slept on the floor) and squeak loudly with every move
To their credit though, they have great facilities, services, and a very nice staff. The price is almost worth what you get, but not a good bang for your buck.

But the hostel is very dirty, stained smelly carpeting everywhere. The rooms are tiny. In the 4-​dorm was no room for my bag the suitcases of my 3 roommates took all the space. It is very noisy, you hear every word spoken in the hall. In the night, a man vomited and pi**ed in the hall, good thing there are carpets, too How do I know that? I could hear it, lying in my bed. I will not stay here again, but I will not forget the extremely corteous, warm and welcoming staff.

Love this hostel, it’s in a nice area close to the city centre but NOT in Temple Bar (which is a very loud area). The staff here is fantastic, so friendly and helpful. The rooms are pretty spacious, they have a great living room area downstairs with a fooz ball table and table tennis as well as a flat screen t.v., ps2 and xbox. There’s a billiards table upstairs (you have to pay to play the fooz ball and billiards). The attached coffee shop is fantastic with great food, coffee and staff as well. I love that they serve you breakfast here, a variety of cereals as well as toast and jam, coffee and tea. I’d give it 5 stars but the water in the showers is never really hot, lukewarm at best and I hate shivering in the shower! Otherwise, it’s the bees knees!

The place is nice!, a typical backpackers Hostel though, with the usual hussle and bussle which comes with it. Location is just perfect, and… their coffee just amazing, which you can get in the ‘Bald Baristo’, joined to the Hostel.

WONDERFUL hostel in a great location in Dublin. I’ve stayed here on three separate occasions now and have never been disappointed.
Location: On Aungier Street just minutes from anything you’d want to see in Dublin: St. Stephen’s Green, Dame Street, Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, just about anything. I walked wherever I went. It’s also very easy to get to from the airport. You grab the 16A bus and hop off just down the block from the hostel.
Price: Cheap! I think the most I’ve ever paid may have been around 28 € a night and that was on St. Patrick’s Day a few years back. My most recent trip was much cheaper, around 13 € a night. This was for a 4-​bed mixed dorm. I have no problem sharing a room with strangers, in fact it can be great fun! There’s free breakfast every morning! Which is great. Nothing fancy — toast with butter or nutella, cereal or oatmeal, but it’s great if you’re on a budget. FREE internet! There is wi-​fi — but to be honest I couldn’t get it anywhere but the lobby. They also have 5 or 6 computers there for you to use if you want!
Amenities: Fairly clean — it’s a large hostel so I’m sure it’s hard to keep it spotless. The «dreaded» push button shower I actually look forward to at this point — it’s just so funny, and you can become quite skilled at leaning multiple body parts on it so that it stays on. Rooms are like everyone has described — small. But. who goes to Dublin to hang out in their room?! Plus you get realllly close with your roommates reallllly fast (literally). All kinds of other options that you can get that I won’t go into here — they have lockers, hair dryers, a self-​service kitchen … you name it. I’d refer you to their wonderful web site to find out more.
I could go on all day. The front desk staff are wonderful. Funny, helpful, kind, make you feel safe, and if I do say so. quite good looking. ;-). This is somewhere I’ll definitely return to, and tell EVERYONE to stay here if they are planning a trip to Dublin.

I had heard many a horror story about the hostels found in Dublin so I was hesitant about my stay. Fortunately, Avalon House was safe, clean, and in a great location. Although I was only there for a few hours (getting in late and leaving early) I was very pleased with my experience. It is a pretty typical hostel and even though the lobby computers were slow and their breakfast was simply toast I had not serious complaints. If you are looking for a good and affordable Dublin hostel this is t=one you should stay at.

Es ist zwar schon eine Weile her, aber als ich dort war, hat es mir super gefallen. Ein nettes und zentrales Hostel — viel los in der Nähe mit Bars, Restaurants und auch Supermärkte.
Das Hostel an sich ist sehr gemütlich, sauber und das Personal ist immer sehr freundlich (so ziemlich wie der Rest der Iren) und hilfsbereit gewesen! Wir hatten sogar ein kleines Bad zu unserem Zimmer…
Da würde man doch am liebsten den Koffer packen — Regenschirm nicht vergessen — und gleich wieder hin ins schöné Dublin und ins Avalon House!

Great for a safe, clean place to stay in Dublin. It’s walkable to everything, Temple bar, city center, Dame St., etc. The bus (2.20 Euro/​one way) to/​from the airport picks up and drops off within walking distance from the front door. I stayed in a private, shared bathroom for 24.00 Euro/​night for 3 nights in January and it was well worth it.
I had internet in my room, it was slow, but it worked overall. The lobby has free computers and is relatively busy t/​o the day. The staff is amazing! Very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy on the eyes… which is always nice. :)
I have seen the 2/​bed and 4/​bed rooms, I agree with the previous reviews, they are small and you will be navigating each other just to move around.
There is Fixx Coffee shop connected to the hostel, they do not take CC, Euro only FYI. Tours (Pub Crawl/​General walking tour) are promoted at the front desk from New Europe Tours, well worth checking out. They provide holding of your bags for 1 Euro/​day with 9 Euro deposit If you want to kill some time before/​after you check in.

Avalon House has given me ten reasons to make me believe that I’ve outgrown hostels.
Reason one: Three of us gals shared a dorm with an unknown Canadian male. At € 24 per person in a four-​bed dorm, we could probably have luxuriated in a hotel at not much extra cost.
Reason two: Check-​out is at 10am!
Reason three: The dorm was so tiny that when we breezed in, our roommate had to leave so we’d have room to manœuvre.
Reason four: Despite sharing a room with a hot guy, when we toddled in after our night out, we all expressed our desire for our roommate to not be in bed yet. He wasn’t.
Reason five: Suddenly, as we were in our various states of undress, and I was making up a homeopathic hangover remedy (just in case), Mr Toronto burst in. He didn’t know where to look. I decided to speed up the inevitable and chatted him up. After some small talk, one of the girls politely asked, «Will I turn out the light?»
Reason six: I had to share a bunk with the Canadian and I was on top. I like to have things within arms’ reach so I had to balance my earplugs, iPod, water bottle, bra, towel and tea tree foot cream beside me.
Reason seven: Halfway through the night, I realised to my horror that my bra must have fallen on to yer man’s bed. He left the room. I swung down in search of my wandering brassiere but it was nowhere to be seen! I hoped he didn’t think I’d flung my big purple bra at him on purpose! Was he disgusted? Freaked out? Turned on? Maybe he just needed the jacks.
Reason eight: We both spent the remainder of the morning tossing and turning. I’d never realised how much one moves about throughout the night. Every time one of us budged, the whole bunk creaked and swayed. And every time I moved, he moved. Just to get me back, like. The afore-​dreaded 10am check-​out could not come quick enough.
Reason nine: Just before I left, I prodded Mr Canada. «Have you seen a bra by any chance?» I asked sheepishly. He passed it out to me, along with my towel, foot cream and ear plugs. «Have you lost anything else?» he asked through a fog of sleep. Yeah, my dignity.
Reason ten: We skipped the make your own toast breakfast and went off in search of a good café instead.
Definitely over hostels!

I stayed here for about three weeks a couple of summer back. My room was really tiny, but I had my own bathroom, so that was awesome. The push-​button shower was a tad bit annoying, but it did the job!
Like everyone else said, there’s free wifi in the lobby and a study room downstairs. They offer toast and such for breakfast. The guys that work there are awesome. Dermot was the best!!! We didn’t want for anything, and we were even assisted in finding places to visit and booking tours. The guys are always at the front desk to let you in, so coming back at night is never an issue, no matter what time you stumble back to your room. :)
It’s in a pretty central location as well, so it’s not a bad stay for those on a budget.

I stayed here for four nights at the beginning of my trip. I had a single room with my own bathroom. The room was incredibly tiny, but that wasn’t a problem. The hostel was quiet, despite being full, the staff was helpful and nice, if not overly friendly (they called and arranged for a cab to drive me out to Enniskerry one night, as I had a dinner reservation at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in the Ritz). There was free internet in the main area (which I believe now has extended to free WiFi throughout the hostel). I can’t speak to the hostel accommodations, but I’d definitely recommend the private rooms for travelers on a budget or who just want a bed to sleep in.
The only downside is the shower — the water operated by pushing a button (much like sink faucets in public restrooms). After a short amount of time, the water stops flowing. I became a champ at showering with my finger or back pressing down the button.

Avalon House is a large but friendly hostel in the middle of Aungier Street. The décor is funky and colourful, and there are plenty of common areas to hang out and meet other backpackers. There’s free internet access in the lobby, and a pleasant little café called The Bald Barista at the front of the hostel, which they claim serves Dublin’s best espresso. Regular open-​mic nights are held here, and guests can get their warble on to claim a free night’s accommodation.
The location is great — five minutes walk to Stephen’s Green, and smack bang in between Georges Street and Wicklow Street/​Camden Street, the main drag for the city’s best pubs, music venues and restaurants.
The dorms are a little cramped, but there are plenty of more spacious triple and 4-​bed rooms for groups, and with internet rates starting at just € 10 per night, this must be one of Dublin’s cheapest sleeps…

This really friendly and spacious hostel is not exactly posh but it is really clean, comfortable and attracts a fun friendly mainly antipodean crowd.
It is in a really super location on Aungier Street which is just a moments walk from Stephen’s Green, South Great George’s Street and Dame Street.
There is a really great café with some of the best coffee in Dublin served here!

Avalon House is one of my preferred hostels in Dublin. It’s pretty clean, really large, and everyone is really friendly. The self-​catering kitchen is pretty big, and it’s centrally located, just a few blocks away from Grafton Street, museums, Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, etc. The TV room is cozy, and has some decent movie selections. There are plenty of places to just hang out at Avalon House and meet other travelers, which is cool and helpful. They also have really large lockers to store your stuff, with a small key deposit. I’ve stayed in them multi-​dorm rooms, as well as a double, and they are cozy and clean, and fairly comfortable. The internet is free, which can’t be beat. They are open 24 hours/​day, and at night time, there is someone at the door making sure that only guests are allowed entry. I feel completely safe when staying here. Oh yeah, and breakfast was pretty decent. I would recommend it to anyone else looking for a hostel in the city.

Tolles Hostel mit sehr guter Lage, freundlichem Personal und gutem Service.
Neben sowohl kostenlosem Wlan (und Rechnern) als auch im Preis inbegriffenem Frühstück, Aufenthaltsräumen, Safes für Laptops (die allerdings eine bestimmte Größe nicht überschreiten sollten) und Gepäck und einer relativ großen und gut ausgestatteten Küche ist es zudem 24h geöffnet. Die Zimmer sind für ein Hostel völlig in Ordnung.
Das Avalon ist also in jedem Fall eine Empfehlung wert.
