My sister & I went to Bentleys in Dublin last nite and we were really looking forward to our first taste of Richard Corrigan’s cooking! We had a 6.30 booking and were advised that we would need the table back by 8.30(not a problem) However we found that the service was such that we felt ‘rushed’ We ordered a starter to share, 2 main dishes &2 side orders and a dessert to share– We had a Kir & Kir Royale to start and 2500ml carafes of house white. The wine was not chilled, we mentioned this and the wine bucket was filled with ice. The starter of Tiger prawns was served with a basket of bread, When the starter was finished, everything was taken off the table, including the bread which we had not finished. The side order of mashed potatoe was on the cold side of warm, not piping hot as they should have been. We sent this back and we got back what looked like the same dish reheated. I had ordered veal and My sister duck, the veal was fine, We were told that the duck was served medium to rare however it was so rare as to be barely cooked at all. My sister called the waitress over and said that while she acknowledged that she knew it would be rare she did not expect it to be so undercooked– She was asked if she would like something different and she stated that she would take the veal. She was told that this would take some time. However within a few minutes, she was presented with a dish with what can only be described as burnt veal. she was also given a side order of salad which I assume was by way of apologise for the duck. The veal was unedible and again we had to call someone over– The veal was taken away and another manager came to the table asking her what was wrong with veal. She was asked again if she wanted something else to which she replied no as she was not feeling third time lucky!!! We had our dessert, a second carafe of warm wine and asked for the bill, which came to € 150.00euro– This did not include the duck. Nothing more was offered by way of an apology which we both feel was very bad service — on the way of we stopped to voice our compliant to the lady at reception but we were to discover that she was even less interested in hearing what we had to say. I do not mean to go on but when one is paying these prices in a restaurant one should not have experienced such bad service and very ordinary food. If we had been offered a complimentary bottle of wine or both our main courses removed from the bill or indeed ‘even something on the house’ this would have changed our attitude regarding the evening, which was ruined. I guess the question is would Richard Corrigan like to have meal like this served to him, I think Not.
