We had a friends 50th party there and all had a Mexican meal upstairs, should have mentioned it’s a Mexican restaurant. The price was expensive but not for the Center of town. The starters were really average… Main course only ok … I’d give it a miss

I use to love this place when I was in my 20s, now im in my 30s, i dont find it as attractive so to say, it use to do great food in the day, before turning into a kinda sport’s bar… so i don’t think its great for food anymore, but still has a good lil nite club, good drinks,&close to town etc Not what it use to be shame really

Not a fan of this place. I was here for pride as it was the only place that didn’t have a thousand people and we were hungry after walking in the parade. I ordered spicy wings and nachos. The nachos came out and were cold so I sent them back and the same thing happened when they brought the it back, so I asked them to take it away, I think that it is a minimum requirement to expect your food to be warm when they serve it to you. The service was okay and the seating was very comfortable.

Constantly being renamed! Recently Harry’s has been rebranded as a ‘Gastropub’ and I swear to God, what is the story with Dublin thinking everything is Gastropub?! Most pubs serve food, it doesn’t make it a Gastropub! Anyway, rant over. This place is better off being a nightclub. It’s dark and has a bit of a dingy feel to it that I don’t think it will ever lose, though maybe that’s just me projecting. It’s a decent pub and I must say the staff are absolutely lovely. Our waitress was full of bant and practically sat down with us while we talked about the day. A seriously super lady. The waiters were lovely too but we didn’t have as much interaction. I had a burger, it was alright but quite greasy and the chips weren’t so much chips as massive wedges. A decent enough place but they should put the pole back and get back to being a nightclub!

Don’t. Just don’t. I was in there recently at what seemed to be a mass lumberjack convention that was getting out of hand, so I quickly made my excuses and left.

Iwas here a few years ago and as far as I can remember they had a pool table, unfortunately this had vanished by the time I came back. I popped in here for a quick one before meetig a few friends and going to see a play in the Gaiety. So sitting at the bar was quite alright for 7pm on a wed night. It was quite enough but the barman was keeping those at the bar, who wanted it, entertained! I think this is a nice/good thing and I would like to see more of it around dublin, I know bartending can be a hard job but showing interest in new people rather than your friends would be a great boost to the business and reputation of the Irish.(Even if they are not foreigners, they may pop over from Galway again) Anyway, rant/ramble over, well worth popping in for a sneaky one. Quiet one if you want it but converstaion is there if you want it aswell. (3 stars because I really didn’t experience much I was in there such a short while)

I have no idea how we ended up in here… I think i must have had one to many drinks to have allowed this to happen. Nothing about this places appeals to me to come back. I remember it being very dark and the music mainstream dance remix pop. Maybe I am being too hard on the place, but I don’t intend on returning to find out.

Came here for drinks at 10pm on a Thursday and were pretty much the only people in the bar. 5euro for drinks(or 6.50euro for some) which is pretty good, especially since we saw him making them. I guess they go back and forth between using premixed juice and mixing it…

Yesterday I was searching for a cocktail on a sunny terrace and I remembered the € 5 margarita at Break for the Border. Unfortunately, even though it was sunny out, the huge terrace was covered in shade. Sat down anyway because I remember the hand-mixed margarita. Instead, my friend and I were served some cloudy pre-mix concoction that came whizzed in a blender. It was not only weak and nasty, but came with a frothy bubble layer on top. Sick. Last time both margaritas were made with fresh-squeezed lime juice and served on the rocks and they were lovely + strong. I feel like I’ve been betrayed; the ol’ bait-and-switch I say!!!

«Thank you for being a friend Traveled down the road and back again Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant. And if you threw a party Invited everyone you ever knew You would see the biggest gift would be from me And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.» Anywhere that ends the night with the theme tune to the Golden Girls is simply golden in my heart. Tuesday gay night is so tacky it hurts in a good sadomasochist way. Blanche, I heart you.

Glitz, glam and all things gay. That is a typical Tuesday night in Break for the Border. It is camptastic affair hosted by some of Dublin’s talented drag acts. Always a good turn out here. The music is mainly chart and they do have some good drink promotions. The drag queens put on a performance and they do have more famous performers(well using the term lightly) such as most recently x factors Stacey Solomon. Other more notable acts include S club 7(minus four members), the cheeky girls and 80’s singer Sonia. A nice cheesy spot to show off your talented dance moves on a Tuesday night!

We went here to watch the rubgy over the weekend. There are lots of TVs, and the alcohol is not too expensive, so pretty good for watching sports. I made the mistake of ordering a «salad» here. It was a complete disgrace. I complained about the complete lack of lettuce(the main part of the salad!!), and the waitress very begrudgingly got the«chef» to give me some more. If you HAVE to eat here, make sure it is deep fried in boiling oil. The only reason I would go back is to watch another match — I don’t think there is a spot in the bar which doesn’t have a decent view of a TV. I certainly won’t be eating here.

Can’t say that I love this place. Been here three times with friends who wanted to play pool. This is a good place for pool, with TVs in the corners showing sports events, good beer selection and lively atmo. It could in fact be a great pool place, that is, if you’ll ever get a table. There are no write-your-name-down-and-wait-for-your-turn rules going on. When there are people waiting for the table, they really should have some sort of rules, like the first name on the list plays the winner who then plays the next name etc., so everyone can have fun. I can imagine that this place can be great craic when there are special nights on, like Annie’s experience, drag queens and champagne! Unfortunately, I’ve only been greeted by a rude bunch of pool players who hold on to their tables like a piece of gold until last rounds are called. Shame on me, I guess, for going there again.

I was here for the erasmus Oktoberfest party and it was AWESOME! This place is great when you are packing 1,000 and some plus people into a place! The drink specials were CRAZY! 12 euro for a pitcher Paulaner? YES! 2 euro shots? YES! AND a 6 euro cover? YES! This place has alot of room and I think 3 plus bars! YESYESYES!!! I’m happy and drunk! Good night Dublin! Welcome October!

Depends on the night with this moody pub. Take the following for example, I recently wandered in here on ‘Erasmus Night’ and had an amazing time. Well, up until about one am when the place started to feel decidedly sardined. But before that it was a friendly but not too drunk, and devastatingly good looking, crowd. Big fun buzz-you can’t go wrong. Then tonight, a Saturday, I flirted past the front door and had a gander at the smoking area. Not one, not two but quite a few bald patches were on display. I’m not ageist or anything, I just think old people contribute nothing to my night out-or society at large for that matter… But I digress. There’s also Sult(Gaeilge night) on here every once in a while which attracts a, both mentally and physically, bearded crowd. I’d advise this night, specifically because there’s something endearingly loopy about caighdeán Irish being butchered over the African roots sounds. Music for Irish language club nights is usually mad. They don’t want trad because it’s a cliché, and they don’t want pop because it’s in English. So they get African roots bands. All the time. So there you have it, a mixed bag of a club. Check the website before heading in, and avoid ‘Solar-Panel Saturdays’.

Ah the many faces of Break for the Border. A super pub, with a big bar… lots of pool tables… a few foosball tables. lots of seating and dancing areas, downstairs it has a club that has the décor of a 1950’s showband venue. I don’t know about this place, it attract the snooker hall crowd who are a little rough, it also attracts the drunken underage crowd who are a little ennoying at best, and it attracts the rocker crowd to the venue downstairs, who are moody and bring the whole place down. That said… it is designed for a good night out, wont cost you an arm and a leg and is worth giving a go at least!

I love this place is great I really love it and love how big it is so if you want to loose someone in here you can! The décor is great and there is lots of bar space to get a drink. The music is a good mix of dance, chart and handbag cheese and they do some good drinks promotions! The crowd is usually on the younger side so expect lots of girls crying in the toilets and boys throwing up outside! Nice. But I was here one New Year’s Eve and I had a blast, although I was very drunk and maybe this is the key to enjoying yourself here!

Break for the Border is a super pub/club/restaurant. It’s the kind of place that really appeals to you when you’re 18 and have just started getting into places legally. I remember my friend raving to me about it when we were that age and it sounded pretty magical to a novice like myself. ‘A restaurant and a club? Wow!’ I’ve been to Break for the Border a few times since my young friend spun her yarns and I’ll tell you now, it’s anything but magical. It’s fairly generic and characterless as a nightclub. The music was the same old Rihanna rubbish that echoes from most speakers in most venues in Dublin. It gets a bit messy as the night goes on and the crowd ain’t genteel! Not the worst place to be if your work or college night ends up here but not the best either.

I wouldn’t be hugely fond of break for the border. I mean it’s fine. It’s a big pub just off Stephens Green and underneath there is a club/venue. I went to a few college events in the club part a few times and it was good fun — it’s not a bad venue for an event or private party. I’ve seen the chipendales being advertised as ‘performing’ here too… pity I missed that. NOT. It wouldn’t be my first port of call when looking for a pub — but I have gone here on occasion to watch the odd rugby match… simply because I know it wont be busy! It wouldn’t be Dublin’s busiest pub, so when we know everywhere is going to be crazy busy with the match on, we usually go here and find that there’s seats. You can sit on the pool tables too, even if it is busy, and we usually order a platter. There’s also a restaurant upstairs.

Break for the Border. Well, I have to say, I am choosy with niteclubs but I like this place. A mixed age group goes here which makes it great for groups and also the dress code is mixed which means you don’t have to be in with a certain type of group to fit in here. That’s always a plus. It seems to be popular with hen parties and the like but unlike other clubs, there is plenty of room. There are two dance floors, and a restaurant. I have been told that drink is expensive in here, but if youi ask me you get what you pay for and the ambience is worth it in my opinion. My and my friend spent the most of the time on the dance floor anyway! :) Its a great place in a great location and while the € 10 cover charge is a bit steep, most nitclubs charge the same or more. The two dance floors play different music; one being dance music and the other chart music. Not many clubs can offer this. Love it !!
