I love this little shoe repair shop on the Green in Sandymount. The couple who run the place have probably been here for as long as Sandymount itself, and they do a great job of re-heeling and mending old shoes. I’ve owned a beautiful pair of purple leather boots for the last number of years that have been lying dormant at the bottom of my wardrobe as they pinched my toes after an hour’s wear, and I recently brought them in to be streched and have been sporting them constantly since. The turnover can be pretty slow(no heels-while-u-wait here, expect your shoes to be ready in a day or two at best), but the service is personal and friendly, and there’s a real sense of what places like this once were before the boom.

This place is old-school, I mean properly old school! — you often pass the place and have an older lady or gent smoking in the shop(Customers I need add!) — in Ireland that’s about as old-school as it gets! The selection of footwear isn’t going to make you think red-carpet… but they seem to be fine(in that«are you all right dear?» «I’m Fine2». oh crap I’m in trouble sort of way) but this place comes into its own when it comes to repairing your much battered foot-leathers. They do good work but make sure you get a quote first… they are liable to just take the shoe/boot in, do the work and then present you with the bill afterwards at which point you have no choice but to pay… you can’t run… you’re only wearing one shoe.
