One of my favourite cafes in Temple bar. Extensive menu, good quality, very substantial portions. Very friendly, polite staff. Slightly on the expensive side but I suppose you can’t expect anything else for temple bar. Nice outdoor seating area. I always sit outside regardless of weather and watch the world go by. Decent coffee and they also serve alcohol so relaxing with a beer or glass of wine is not a problem. The café also has links to The Foggy Dew pub a few doors away, so if you want to eat food from the The Cappuccino café in a pub/bar environment you can order from their menu in the pub and it is delivered up! Good to know!

I was searching around Temple Bar for a nice café to sit, have some coffee, and set up my laptop when I came across this place. I got the Irish Coffee which was quiet satisfying on an October evening and the fruit pancakes. Great cozy place if you’re looking for a place to relax, have coffee and lunch, or to sit back and have some time to search the web and check emails. Quick service as well!

The € 5 burger and chips from this place has been a staple hangover meal for us during our college years. Not the best quality burger but what do you expect for € 5. There is higher quality food available but that would involve spending more than a fiver. And in case you didn’t guess, I’m averse to that.

This is one of my favourite places to hang out and meet up with friends. The food is decent, the coffee nice and strong and they do an all-day breakfast. I’m a fan of their french fries, because they don’t do chips. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t pretend to be cool or trendy. You want coffee and a bite to eat? That’s exactly what you’ll get. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and so are the staff. The service can be hit and miss and nothing really is great in the ‘you-absolutely-must-try’ kind of way but sometimes average is exactly what you want.

This is a difficult review, I’m in two minds here. In one way I like this almost nameless café because it has a real laid back attitude. It won’t jump through any hoops for you, just gives you a coffee plain and simple. This is good, I like how they don’t make a big deal about everything. So many places are a bit ‘Ooh, hey there, we’re some sweet, loveable hippies with bandanas, would you like a fair trade French roast with soy milk and fairy dust in a hand made cup and home-made, organic oatmeal, save-the-panda cake?’, sometimes I just can’t hack it and need something easy. On the other hand, Cappuccino Bar could give a little more care in some respects. I got a chocolate cake here once and the icing was like a weird rubber cover on a brown cardboard brick. They also kept it in the same fridge as the sandwich stuffs so it kind of smelled like ham. Plus, they’re none too impressed by you expecting someone to come back and ask if you’d like something else, especially if your outside on a chilly day. I think in this situation you should just press your face against the glass and start screaming. I think, on balance, it would be unfair of me to place Cappuccino Bar above other places that try so hard to impress, but I think this Marlon Brando of a café could probably care less. They know I’ll be back.

The Cappuccino Bar markets itself as an authentic Italian establishment. That’s baloney to be perfectly frank. Their food is decent, but a bit on the expensive side and is certainly nothing compared to what you get in Italy. They do decent baked potatoes though, and their hot chocolate is amazing, one of the best I’ve ever had in Dublin. The outdoors part is really cool, and you do get a chance to see some cool people meandering the streets, and the more fashion-conscious of the population making their way to the coolness of Urban Outfitters. It does have an alcohol licence which means if you feel like a beer but aren’t in the mood for a pub, then this isn’t a bad place to go. Just don’t expect the food to blow your mind.

I would not go out of my way to go here, especially since the Joy of Coffee is just around the corner. Yes it’s very centrally located, but I never have been a huge fan of their coffee and sometimes the service can be hit and miss. What they have going for them is a good outdoor area to relax and people watch. However, they do a good Irish breakfast deal, other than that I think their menu is overpriced for what you get.
