The restaurant it located in the busy Temple Bar area, about a block from the popular Dublin Castle. I had high hopes for this place, but was generally underwhelmed by experience. We ordered a full buttermilk chicken with a side of potato salad and also added the chicken brochettes. The presentation of the food was great, but as cool as it looked, I’m not sure a tin bucket was the best plate to pile the chicken. I get the fun twist(a la KFC), but all the grease from the top chickens dripped onto the ones in the bottom and made them less crunchy. The flavor of the food was good, but I have had much better chicken. It was a bit dry, and maybe that’s our fault for not ordering sauce; however, I think good fried chicken should be moist and flavorful enough on its own. The chicken brochettes also fell a bit flat, and were not as juicy as you’d expect.

Menu looks good, but shoptronica music is far too obtrusive unless your are an oblivious juvenile. 4 on the floor disco music that you expect to hear in a discount shoe store is like sitting next to a garbage can. Don’t ignore your senses

Really loved the atmostphere here, and music being played, felt like a good balance of bar and resturant, which is great for a night out with friends, maybe not so much for family fun. It was darkly lit, which would normally annoy me but this seemed to work well with the vibe. The mocktails and jucies seemed pricey at £3.50, but were very generous and extremely tasty. The menu was more varied than id seen in other chicken joints and had some interesting dips and sides i hadnt tried before. Honey in anything is always tasty, and the honey and feta dip was yum. You get a large portion of chicken and it is well cooked, not the best ive had. Perfect pre-swall food!

A little pricey, but very good fried chicken. I had orders of both styles of chicken«crunchers»(basically fried chicken strips). The seasoning was delicious and they were fried perfectly. The dipping sauces were interesting and I had some bites of the cold Asian noodle salad which was good too. Good eats but a little on the pricey side and atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired.

i must say i’m not usually much of a chicken resturant fan but the chicken here was delicious and I got lots of it. Not a fan of the stool seating but thats a pretty minor issue really.

You’d expect a place like this restaurant with pretty good at chicken and sure enough they’re absolutely awesome in here. Not as spicy as some of the others which may be a good thing for some people but the huge portions. Must visit.

The soy garlic chicken was perfection. Our waiter was knowledgeable and knew what to recommend for a couple of out of town tourists. The chicken was tender with a lot of flavor and the atmosphere made for a lovely dinner in a trendy spot.

So nearly 3 years later and it’s still here. Pop-up my eye! I had exactly the same meal I had back in May ’13. It was slightly more expensive but I thought the chicken was a tad more deep fried than strictly necessary. That said, it hit the spot. The Chinese restaurant décor is still there. Odd. Very predictable, safe and unadventurous fast(ish) food. It’ll do.

Still one of my favorite places to eat chicken. Staff still lovely, food still delicious. One star taken away for the loud music. It is actually genuinely unbearable and is why I no longer come here as often as I used to. Apparently they have a DJ wednesdays through sundays, and the music is as loud as a club. Last time I was there, I honestly could not wait to get out of there because the music was so loud.

Pros: — Solid place for some Asian style fried chicken — The soy garlic fried chicken is the go-to; flavorful, crispy, and just the right amount of juicy — The croquettes are another highlight and go great with the sauces — Go with the Sriracha sauce as a dip(avoid the mild jalapeño one) — I dug the DJ’s playlist but if you’re not a fan of electronic music it may not be your thing Cons: — A little pricey for what you get, especially the 2 euro sauces — The ambiance inside is overly dim lit — The fried chicken is solid but people definitely overrate it

I don’t quite know what to make of Crackbird. On one hand, yes the chicken they serve here is delicious — and this comes from someone who finds chicken mostly boring. But aside from that, it’s hard to find reasons to keep me going back. The place looks very cool, they surely can rock the leftover decoration from a previous asian restaurant. But it feels they’re trying too hard — essentially making them not cool? — with lights that are too dim even during the day, music blaring all the time as if you were eating on a dance floor, and, last but not least, the blasé staff who are never there when you need them. The food is delicious — consisting mainly of chicken dishes, a couple of salads and some sandwiches. The sides can be a bit hit or miss and the sauces are very inconsistent, some extremely liquid(looking at you japanese mayo), while others are very thick; no sides or dips are included with the«mains», and I find that the dips particularly can be somewhat expensive for what you get. The chicken portions may seem expensive but they are veeerryyy generous, so no fault there. If overly hipster places make you cringe like a vampire smelling garlic, avoid. If you can put up that, and the lack of vegetables on the menu, make the most of it and enjoy your food with a nice big lemonade… served on a mason jar, of course :)

We had been roaming around looking for a place to grab a bite that was quite and friendly and we found Crackbird. I really enjoyed the buttermilk chicken and sweet potato noodles. My son and husband ordered the chicken brochette and liked it. The service was slow but we liked relaxing so that wasn’t an issue for us. Its a bit dark inside unless you sit near the windows which we did. I’d highly recommend that the management bring more light inside to add more energy into the space. The food was good and the place was kinda hip and rather healthy. Good place for simple reasonably priced food.

Crack bird was a massive disappointment. I actually tried this place about 2 years ago in passing and wasn’t blown away but I’ve recently heard great things so I thought I would give it a try again. This time I actually found it worse as did my sister and girlfriend who accompanied me. Firstly does anyone know what a carafe is? We sure as hell didn’t but we decided not to get a glass of wine instead to get a carafe as it was 15 euro so we expected a bottle and the waiter told us it was a bottle that we would get a glass and a half out of. Basically it’s like 375 mls and would do two people if you’re not aiming to linger for long! We were fairly disappointed in this to begin with. It’s completely misleading on the menu and started the meal off quite badly. We would have gotten a bottle or two of beer each instead had we known. The wine was quite nice but not worth what would be 30 euro a bottle in a normal restaurant. For food got the buttermilk half chicken and thought it was basically a worse tasting KFC type chicken. Mainly bones, dry and super crispy. It tasted nice at the beginning but halfway through it made me feel a bit sickly. My sister and girlfriend got the chicken skewers or brochettes. They got one curry flavour and one lemon and bay leaf. They were very dry and the chicken wasn’t really marinated or anything it just had sauce dipped on top. We got sides of croquettes which were delicious and the beans with chipotle which was also decent but not great. For 55 euro we were all a bit sickened with what we got and wish we went to jo’burger instead.

It’s like the dj knew we were coming in tonight and wanted us to request my favorite 90’s-2000’s r&b/hip hop station on pandora. Listening to naughty by nature, salt n peppa &50 cent paired perfectly w/my fried chicken ;-) On to the food… Deep fried olives in a Sriracha & cheese sauce… olives work well in only a few circumstances: olive oil for cooking, in a dirty martini, & this appetizer. It’s delicious! Also ordered a dozen habanero & honey wings & ½ soy garlic chicken… both are finger lickin good. My stomach is about to burst, but it’s all for a good cause!

Good food. Average price. Not much of a selection but if you like chicken this is your place. I would recommend the semolina crunchers and the leywellen spray and honey and thyme dip… YUM! Its a nice relaxed place.

Read some great reviews about this place and was really looking forward to a great fried chicken meal. Went at about 8pm and was seated immediately. They have a DJ playing some funk/pop remixes. We ordered the half soy garlic chicken, dozen habanero honey wings and a cabbage onion salad. To drink we had the lime ginger spritzer and 8 degrees red ale. Overall, the chicken was NOT great. Flavors were lacking and everything tasted flat. There was no crunch on the skin, more of mush, which could be a nice texture with the chicken but that would mean that they would really need to step up in the flavor profiles. I’ve had MUCH better chicken elsewhere. Also, no service. They never checked on us and we really needed water!

OK, they are losing a star purely on the service /staff… ive been here several times and without fail the waiters are always quite snotty and think they are too cool too handle … no, just no. However the food is unbelievable so ill look past it — they just wont be getting a tip ! The variety on the menu is deadly, its different, the chicken of course goes without saying is delicious, i doubt the chicken wouldn’t be top notch in a chicken restaurant!!!, the croquettes for side are to die for ! super soft and falls apart so delicately in your mouth … baked beans are oh so flavorsome … baked potato is huge !!! im not mad on the chicken broth but i think that’s more down to personal palette, the texture is a bit too funky for my liking great spot here for lunch ! great cheap selection of sambos !!(chicken of course) with nice toppings/fillings such as hummus and spinach . its better for lunch as for dinner — as much as the food is delicious — its quite greasy and having a big bucket of chicken can be quite bweh unless your quite hungover– id suggest splitting a bucket of wings or something between two then getting say two sides, beans and a baked potaote maybe !! tiger beer and few ales on sale here –fab homemade lemonades ! expensive enough but you get a huge jar of it ! so yeah other than the staff and backless uncomfortable stools to sit on — i love it here !

I finally made it to Crackbird… amazing. The soy garlic fried chicken and chicken crunchies were my favorite! They also had delicious lemonades served in huge jars. For the veg heads out there, the sweet potato noodles they serve are so unique and truly tasty. Our service was amazing! The waiter was attentive, helpful, and patient while we asked a few questions. Make sure to get the burnt lemon-feta dip, it’s nothing short of amazing. The buttermilk fried chicken is good, but the crunchies are better value.

If you love fried chicken. This is the place! Delicious delicious. I licked all my fingers and begged for more. The setting is nice and casual. The chicken is amazing. Wings are small but tasty. Make sure to add a salad. Res cabbage, red onion, pomegranate and lime is nice balance to the chicken!

Crackbird definitely dishes out a satisfyingly good fried chicken. It is somewhat different from the traditional Southern US style, but very flavorful and juicy. I ordered the chili chicken crumbles, which are their way of saying strips. I wasn’t quite as enamored with the croquettes. I agree with other reviewers that the service is a bit off. I waited for a very long time, after it was clear I was done, for anyone to come over. After asking for the bill, I waited another 10 minutes before it was brought over. Unlike sister restaurant, Bear, I am not sure I’d be back here.
