Decobake

They’ve a vast range of cake and baking stuff here in Decobake. Where to start, what to buy? Well I knew what I wanted to buy and they had some of the things on my list.
Tasked with making my parents 50^th wedding anniversary cake, I picked up the cake board and the icing paste — a colour called champagne, fancy!
I was also looking for some ribbon, pre made decorations and lettering. But the place is more geared for people to make their own iced flowers, detail etc. The ribbon didn’t inspire me. Anything ready to go was mainly for children’s cakes. Nothing else interested me and the cake I had just baked.
I got the same lack lustre service other reviewers have mentioned when I went to pay. Just as placed my items on the counter there was a change of guard at the till and the girl who replaced the guy was in no hurry what so ever.
On a plus they were open on a Sunday.
I plan to source the rest of what I need online.

Absolutely love in here, and its restaurant down the road. The staff are always extremely helpful, plus, I always think making someone something as a present is best… Even better if it looks professionally done ;)

I would say this is the best shop for anyone wishing to buy materials for cake decorating, although I would have to say that most things sold here would be reserved for the pros. They sell basically everything you could possibly need to bake a decorative cake, from decorations and baking pans to coloured icing and baking books. They also do cake baking lessons especially near holiday periods such as Christmas and Halloween, although they can be on the pricier side. I came here to ask about ordering a photo cake but they said they only do the top icing layer should you want any special decorations or photos, but not the actual cake itself which you would have to bake yourself and then customise with the icing. As I can’t bake even a cupcake, that wasn’t an option for me, but the staff were friendly and helpful. However, for a baking enthusiast or anyone in search for cake supplies, I can’t think of a better shop to recommend. They also serve coffee and tea in the back and have outdoor seats.

I was in here a couple of months ago. Firstly there were three girls working in this store and none of them seemed too happy to be working there. I needed a spout for piping icing and couldn’t find the one I was looking for. There was one blonde girl standing behind a counter where it looked like she was dressing cakes to order. I kept looking around for assistance and she pretended not to see me. Another woman asked her a question about where to find an item and the blonde girl proceeded to point vaguely in a general direction. I then asked her a question and she couldn’t have been less interested or less helpful. I couldn’t find what I was looking for in the end and decided I wasn’t buying anything from this store as they didn’t deserve my custom.
The two other girls where standing behind the payment counter. One girl with dark hair was busy serving every customer and appeared to be the only one doing any work. The other had her back turned to the till and was busy checking out her Facebook stream.
Yes they have almost anything you could need for baking but with their woeful customer service I think I’d rather order online in future

The shop is huge and well stocked but for me that’s where it ends. I came to get some cupcake… what are they called? The paper thingys that you put the dough in. Yes, those ones. They had many, oh so many of them, all colours and sizes but a price on any of them? Nope. So I stand there trying to figure out who works there and who’s a customer. And I stand and look around a little more. And some more. I spot a girl appearing behind the till on the other side of the shop fiddling with her phone, she eventually shouts the price over to me. Although not overly expensive, I decide that I don’t wanna spend my money here.

Possibly my new favourite store for caking equipment. Kitchen Compliments were out of a couple of staples, and I kept buying the wrong size cakeboard, so I decided to try decobake.
I get the impression it’s not fully stocked, but that might be just because I’m used to overcrowding in these places. It’s really well organised, and has this lovely vibe. If I’m not mistaken the prices are a bit cheaper, with the high cost of these tools and ingredients that can make quite the difference.
I’ll have to do a few more shopping trips before I give it 5 stars, just to be sure, but its a definite possibility!

I ordered ornaments for the top of my sister’s wedding cake on Sunday night and they arrived today — Tuesday. This is fantastic service and it’s Irish! There is great choice on the website, the quality is high and they use an post.

This place is my idea of heaven… never realised how much fun it is to bake and decorate cakes. This shop has all kinds of everything from baking tins, multi-​coloured fondants, tools and even sells cupcakes for you to eat while your browsing!
There are baking courses here regularly — to help you a pro. The website is very good and will deliver to the shop for free… however it’s the shop in Clane and not Bachelors walk. The rumour is that this store is expanding in to the next shop, which will be amazing…

This business specialisies in all things baking and has a huge selection on offer. It’s easier to browse than either Kitchen Complements or Stock, its south of the Liffey competitors, due to the large floor space.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and I was talked through the basics of the business, which are that it’s Irish-​owned, has several stores throughout the land, and makes all of its own extensive range of icings.
I can vouch that the ready to roll one is really easy to use and goes on beautifully — my only issue is that I was advised to get two and a half times the quantity I needed, having asked for enough for a medium Christmas cake. So I have a rather large surplus of sweet white stuff and foresee a year of much cookie and cake decorating for the kids — up to the point I get tired of it and chuck it out no doubt.
A word to the wise — the prices here are looking very good indeed, compared to Stock which is on the expensive side. I bought the exact same cookie presentation box here that I bought in Stock a day previously, it was 2.50 in Stock, and 1.85 here.
The assistant I spoke to advised that keen pricing is part of the company ethos — and given how expensive confectionery goods can be, you can’t argue with that.
She also told me they are moving to a bigger premises further along the north quay in the new year — perhaps nearer the Italian Quarter.
I’ll definitely be making this by first stop for baking stuff in the future.

Great products for sale and gorgeous cupcakes. Only gripe is that it’s not open till 10am so awkward for going to after school run. I called in today at 9:50 as the door was unlocked but wasn’t served so I left and didn’t go back. Would be better for customers if it was open even by 9:30.

Decobake is a new shop at 26 Bachelors Walk (not 14 Ashton Quay as originally stated on Unilocal), they sell Cake Decoration Supplies of all sorts and are probably the shop in Dublin with the widest product range.
In addition (and it is not well advertised), they sell coffee for a good price and yummy cupcakes.
If you are into making and decorating cakes, Decobake is your shop, but the café aspect of the shop is a bit of a hidden extra.
