As a trivia fan(which makes for a great competitor at pub quizzes and awkward party conversation) I jumped at the chance to download these iWalk’s Dublin podcasts. Intended as an in-your-ear guide around town without the umbrella-gesticulating guide, these free .mp3s double as great take-home fare for the fact-hunting visitor. With these recordings you’ll be able to stock up on the kind of local factoids that will delight friends and annoy small children for years to come. While much of the content is rather pedestrian(no pun intended), there are asides that produce the eyebrow raising aha moments key to a good tour experience. (From walk 2, «The Historic North Side»: Cleary’s on the North Side occupies the site of the world’s first purpose-built department store! You’re welcome!) Pat Liddy’s slightly stiff delivery in a few sections enhances that on-tour sensation for those aching for a little extra authenticity, but there are segments where you can hear the pages flicking and the smile in his voice as he reads.
