Embassy of Italy

It is for me hard to make a judgment on this place. First because it is a foreign Government Office in Ireland, so I think they get budget and personnel from the Italian Government who decides the budget allocation.
So being something managed for providing a public service rather than a private business turnover, what you see there it basically what the Italian Government gives to this Embassy.
As Italian living in Ireland I don’t think this office gives a suffice representation nor image to Italian Government nor Italy. The office itself is small and let down with few cracks on the walls. Few A4 printed sheets are attached to the wall in the way of trying to provide information.
Staff behind the hatch try to to do their best as they can but they are not able to cope with the number of requests, so they are slow. Also because not working in a private company they are not into the mindset of work performance and time management.
Further, Italian bureaucracy helps as well to slow the application forms so it takes ages for certain applications to be completed.
In order to enter this office, you have to wait outside the gate and wait for the Italian guard (Carabinieri) to show. Sometimes can take more than 5 minutes (as last time I was there), and in Ireland you know the weather is not so nice. Then you have to wait in a small waiting room/​front office among other people, mix between Italian and other nationalities.
No other offices/​rooms, just this room to share your personal information with all the people who are waiting for their turn when you talk through the hatchet. They do not accept credit or Visa card, just cash, so bring the exact amount of money otherwise I have to go to the nearest petrol station get changes.

Really useless bureaucrats, shouldn’t be working, really shameless laziness.
My wife is Argentine/​Italian, so we tried to get married in Denmark via the Italian citizenship. They wanted fees, forms that Denmark didn’t provide (didn’t exist) and kept us waiting at all times for no explainable reason.
My wife emailed the embassy from then as she refused to tow the line of nonsense after all of this. You’re expected to take a day off work and they never solve any issue without creating and introducing irrelevant problems.
In the end, we went to the Argentinian embassy, they were only happy for us and gave us all we needed without nonsense.
When we came back from our wedding, my wife emailed again. The replies took weeks and were very rudely and sarcastically written. ’ So, this «marriage» that you’ve gotten will need to be registered in this town in Italy, in person. And we need an original copy or your marriage certificate, that we will keep and not return.’ — Absurd. Nobody gives the original copy without getting it back.
They work 3 hours per day here, and introduced all kinds of nensense, saying that I, NOT ITALIAN, would have to register in a UNION OFFICE in Italy, where I’ve never been.
In the end, we refused to comply. My wife will simply dump the Italian citizenship and take mine, and good riddance.

First of all, you need to call a special number with high call charges and take an appointment which you will get only after a month (as they always have high volume of applications (!)) If you happen to travel sooner then email them to request to fit you in for any earlier cancellations. Most likely they would honour that but be ready to come in at 1 day notice at any time they say.
There are a lot of documents needed. Get all originals and photocopies of everything they ask for. If your documents are watertight then the visa process is as quick as 5 days. I have seen them turning people down if the paperwork is not complete.
Turn up for the appointment 15 mins earlier (they say 5 mins only but they are bad in time management) and keep next few hours free because no matter when your scheduled appointment is, there is a separate queue inside on another small window at the entrance on the left hand side where you need to stand. I sat inside the main waiting room for 45 minutes only to realize this and there is no-​one to tell you what to do. No-​one calls your name or appointment time. Like I said its mismanaged.
Oh and the guy on the visa counter loves to talk and will insist that you go to his native and favorite places marking it on the map for you. No matter how many people are waiting after you and have legitimate appointment schedules (which are over run by at-​least 45 minutes), they don’t respect your time and further schedules! Yet to experience if that’s true for other embassies as well.
Get the fees in cash, they don’t accept cards and the nearest ATM is 8 minutes away.
If you manage to cross all the hoops then you get the visa from the date you are planning to go and you get your passport back in 5 days (Good thing). You can collect it personally AGAIN standing in the SAME QUEUE on the SAME WINDOW — be ready to wait for a long time (Not so good thing anymore)
We were given visa for only 20 days to be used in 60 days duration. I was expecting 180 days duration to use it in. I was told by the visa guy «This is because this is your first application with us and we don’t know you, you may be a terrorist (not kidding– he said that) and when you apply next time, you will get for 90 days and so on … «To me, it looked like personal discretion then the embassy’s.
May be my opinion is biased by the visa person on the counter (there was only one I dealt with) but I am going to another Schengen country’s embassy next time! Would not return here.
