Free Yelper Event: Improv Asylum

Brilliant night

I took my boyfriend there with me, we had an amazing time. I loved the comedy gig, the American /​Irish /​British crowd was hilarious. Good fun all round.

A little late with this review but sure heh! better late than never. Anyhoo I went along to see Improv Asylum as part of a Free Unilocaler Event and I am glad I did. Why? Because it’s really great. It was funny, interactive (but not overly so) and it was funny. Did I mention it was funny. The actors/​comedians are quick witted, thankfully, as it would have been shite otherwise. They have a great buzz about them and you can feel the enjoyment they get from performing. I’d love to see them again, bring some family or friends or both. It would be a great show to go to for a work night out too.

I jumped for joy seeing this event appear in my emails; a lover of improv and always looking for something a little different to do on a Thursday night.
Going along I was quite giddy at the prospect of being involved in this American borne performance but disappointed to find that it was in the Tivoli theatre, which I have had unpleasant experiences in, to say the least.
All this was overcome however as I took my seat. Comprising of two Americans, two Irish and one Brit it was a nice mix of accents and humour. I’m not going to lie I was apprehensive of how I would take U.S. comedy but those two were my favourite. Naturally funny, it oozed out of them and everything they said had purpose. The other three however, not quite as funny, had me cringing at times. The Irish girl especially, I did not like. Her humour was childlike and her acting/​performance skills; amateur.
The format of the show comprised of a mix between set comedy seems, improv inspired by audience questions and audience participation. Every time they picked an audience member, I did slightly advert my gaze; hoping they wouldn’t pick me and then being disappointed when they didn’t.
I would recommend this show to anyone wanting an easy going, fun night and am very grateful to Unilocal for introducing it to me. The great thing with improv is that every night is a new show, so I would definitely go back. My only tip would be to maybe leave the kids at home; there were some there and it was maybe a tad bit inappropriate. Hilariously so.

I really enjoyed this Unilocal event, I love comedy but sometimes it can be a bit hit and miss.
However this was a great night out. As someone else commented the bar was a bit slim on drink choice but its a theatre not a bar so that’s fair enough.
The improv was excellent, some of the sketches were a bit hit and miss but hey ho you can say the same about Monty Python.
I got dragged up onto stage to perform some moving of comedians and even enjoyed that. The guys on stage appeared to be laughing more than the audience which is highly amusing!
Anyway thanks to Emily for arranging a great event! We will be sure to go again I think!

I had a great night out. I had never been to the Tivoli Theatre before so it was great to get the chance to go somewhere new. It is quite a small venue but means you are more intimate with the stage which is nice. Have to say was a bit late down by their bar and lack of variety of drinks on offer.
The show itself was great craic. The audience participation was very funny. Fair play to the team who work hard to make it a very funny show!

Great night last night, would highly recommend going to see these guys at least once. I will most definitely be making a reappearance.

Great night out. Loved the combination of sketches, improv, games and musical.

I tend to be wary of improv comedy as it can be a bit hit-​and-​miss, but these guys really delivered and I will definitely be recommending them in the future!
Their show was well laid-​out, with appropriate accompanying music, and these two factors combined meant that there was no room left for any potential awkward silences!..
Improv seems like such a difficult thing to do, and especially when they were interacting with the audience, the crew really showed their talent and flair for the art.

A grand start to the long weekend here at the Tivoli Theatre with the Improv Asylum courtesy of Unilocal Dublin.
I’d never been to the Tivoli before, so was glad to get the opportunity to check this venue out. I liked it, the staff were nice and facilities clean. It’s a venue I’d definitely go back to.
The improv started a little shaky, but the troupe of five soon got into their stride. The pace was excellent, with the music segwaying each sketch together really well.
The dedicated piano man was excellent at adding to the tone and atmosphere of their sketches. I’d agree with Tim L, I preferred the improv scenes too. They were all very good at the off the cuff comedy.
The length of the show was ideal and the intermission perfect.
Thanks to the lovely Emily for the ticket. And to Improv Asylum Dublin for the entertainment.
I’d go see them again.

Good craic all around — perfect way to kick off the super long weekend!
I did prefer the improv stuff than the sketches and oh the poor family… (or are they a family, even I’m confused). HEE HAW!

Great night, really good almost clean fun. The guys really give it their all. Loved it. Looks like they genuinely have good craic doing it as well. Would definitely recommend it.
