Isaacs Hostel

Probably the cleanest hostel I’ve experienced. Friendly staff. Super clean.
The showers /​toilets were clean.
They do have a key cars for access to the rooms. There are enough outlets even throughout the hallways. The kitchen was spacious and you can prepare your meals.
Wifi in common areas. Check in via Unilocal and the deal was free locker. You can also get a towel for 2 euro.
Again, I felt super Comfortable and it was very affordable. Everyone was nice.
I would stay here again.

Decent quality hostel at an affordable price. Bathrooms are separate and are not en suite. Free WiFi and light breakfast available at the hostel. Decent amenities, most of which you wouldn’t find in a hostel this small.
Good location close to the city center, and close to all services, amenities, grocery stores and shops. It is though located underneath a railway line that can get loud sometimes, but it’s nothing unbearable, and thankfully the trains don’t run during the night.

Thank you for accommodating to my diet needs by buying me food before my arrival! That was the best!
Wifi connection could be improved.

Pretty good value for what it costs. Free sauna, pool (billiards), wifi. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Do not go on the bar crawl! The free booze isn’t worth it and there are much better bars in dublin than what they take you to.
Edit: when I mentioned this to the staff they took it quite seriously. Testament to their good service!

Shoddy infrastructure, overworked underpaid staff, budget hotel.

I have stayed at Issac’s twice once in 2008 and again in 2012. Both stays were wonderful, the staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. Great location for catching a train or as a launch point for walking around Dublin. I will stay here whenever I am in Dublin

I had a great time in Dublin and part of it was because of Isaac’s. The staff was friendly, helpful and provided great advice from food spots to good museums. The rooms were nothing special, they were fine, they did have mirrors in the room which isn’t always the case in hostels. The bathrooms were clean and common rooms were never too crowded but always had enough strangers to start up a conversation and make new friends. The price is good, the breakfast is ok and free wifi! I will be back to Isaac’s on my next trip to Dublin for sure
Also a plus the hostel lends you adapters for free!

My stay here was alright — I absolutely loved the staff; they were all very friendly and helped my friend and I figure out our plans. The staff I give five stars, but the accommodations are a bit unkept. The bathrooms were dirty pretty often and I know they can’t always control it when people vomit all over it but, waking up to a bathroom still covered in vomit was pretty gross. The water in the shower only stays on for like 5 seconds, so you have to keep pressing it… I’m all for water conservation but that’s a bit over the top. Breakfast is very strict in the morning and ends on the dot at 10am — I got there maybe 10 minutes early one day and barely was able to get a piece of bread before the staff member cleaned everything up! I stayed for a week and noticed they end it sharply. The rooms are clean but the top floor (the 18 bed) is really stuffy and hot, especially when it’s full. The hostel does a lot of fun events though so that’s a big plus!
Oh the other super annoying thing is the wifi: we had to login to Facebook and «check in» at the hostel every time we wanted to use the wifi. It sounds stupid but when you’re staying for a few days, it gets annoying.
I felt pretty safe at this hostel though and it has a generally very friendly vibe.

THIS HOSTEL IS NOT SAFE!
I had my iPhone stolen right from under my nose (literally, it was under my pillow as I slept). Somehow, two random people that didn’t even go to the hostel got in and robbed two or three rooms. Later, I found out from the desk attendants that most of the doors are broken and don’t close properly. Their solution was to put up cheesy laminated signs, instead of fixing the doors.
I don’t even know how the thieves got past the front desk and only know it was two guys, because some of the other guests told me. The hostel’s camera system is useless and only an illusion of safety as it seems that no one watches them and even after the theft, they weren’t able to use them to find the people who did it.
The rooms don’t even have lockers to keep your things safe. For 2 euros a night and a 10 euro deposit they offer lockers deep in the basement, which is both an annoyance and an inconvenience. It’s also ultimately pointless if the valuable cell phone that you might want to lock up is also your alarm clock for the next morning that you would be able to hear if the locker was in the room.
I spoke to the manager of the hostel was completely unsympathetic and, frankly, very rude and he seemed like he didn’t even care at all that I had lost something valuable. He was more concerned about being defensive, denying all responsibility, and refusing to repay me anything, not even the generosity of compensating me a night’s stay. He didn’t even care when I said that someone could have snuck into the room and killed me in the middle of the night.
Apart from that, everything else about the hostel was completely unsatisfactory.
The rooms were extremely hot all the time, which was weird because it was freezing and raining outside all week. Any footsteps on the floorborads in the hall or above produce loud creaks in every room around, making it very difficult to sleep. It wouldn’t be a problem if the hostel wasn’t full of hundreds of people and if they weren’t mostly kids, that always hung out and partied in the lobby and in their rooms all night long, presumably because they weren’t old enough to go to bars.
They told me that they offered a «full continental breakfast,» that was nothing more than instant coffee, sour (but really sour) orange juice, stale corn flakes, and toast. It was also only open from 7:30 — 9:30 and promptly closed. The kitchen was big enough, but they hardly had enough plates and bowls for everyone. I tried to keep groceries in the refrigerator, but a lot of my food was stolen.
The facilities also weren’t that great. They offered only one computer with windows xp that broke constantly, rendering it useless. The wifi also only worked within fifteen steps from the reception desk. There were also unnecessary charges for nearly everything additional that you could need. Ear plugs were 50 cent, towels were two euro, laundry was six. I asked for ear plugs on multiple nights and was told that the desk worker was going to call the sister hostel and bring some over, but it never happened.
In addition, I asked a couple of the desk attendants in the morning about things to do in Dublin and they couldn’t really answer any specific questions. They knew where the Irish museum of modern art was and they could circle it on a map, but they couldn’t tell me what was inside. They didn’t know that it was closed and under construction for the season, which cost me time and train tickets going to the other side of the city to try and see it. I also went on two walking tours, one sponsored by the hostel and the other by a different company. I found the outside company’s tour to be much much more informative and entertaining having been given by a charismatic, authentic Irish student.
There are plenty of other highly rated and equally affordable places with a much better location and much better facilities. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Thre staff is super friendly and helpful

Our first night in Ireland was happily spent at Isaac’s. The atmosphere is great – young, cozy (low ceiling, old cellar, big tables to share and socialize, etc.). The staff was very friendly and loaned me some travel books from behind the desk. Our wifi connection wasn’t great, but when you’re in a place full of strangers, it’s kind of better that way because it makes conversation better! It’s very centrally located to transportation (arrived by bus from the airport) and there are plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as kitchen access.
It is a bit of a hike to the Templebar area, but you’re in Ireland’s capital city, so you don’t need to go that far to get to a decent pub! The walk is very doable, but is at least a mile, likely more.
We LOVED the walking tour. It’s offered free and we happily gave generous tips to the hilarious and charming guide who oriented us to the city and shared endless stories dashed with lots of humor.
We’re definitely coming back.

I love this place. It’s great. Really really great as far as hostels go. The place is usually packed with students/​young people/​travelers which is awesome. Sit next to someone and start a conversation.
The good:
–Free breakfast. Well, they have milk, coffee, corn flakes, bread and jam. It’s not an amazing selection but it’s free. Don’t complain – we’re all trying to save money. Also, in response to Erin– the staff cleans the dishes now. I’m not sure if they recently changed it or maybe you thought one of the staffers was a hosteler. Either way, everything was collected and cleaned by the staff when I went.
–The communal showers and bathrooms are cleaned every day. I would get up early and take a shower, finding out that the cleaning woman did everything already.
–You need your card key to get into anywhere. This means not just anyone can walk in and start trouble.
–They have HUGE lockers that fit 2 large suitcases and a backpack for only 2 Euros a night. You have to put a deposit of 10 Euros, too. I’ve stayed at hostels where they don’t have lockers and have only one key per room. You want to stay somewhere where you feel safe and your possessions are safe.
–The staff is really nice. They didn’t give me a hard time. When I stayed with my boyfriend, they made sure they gave us the connected bunk bed so we could stay together.
–It’s very close to Busaras Bus Station and Connolly Station. I easily took a bus from Dublin to Belfast via Busaras. I didn’t have to pay a taxi and only lugged it for a few blocks. Definitely worth it.
A few drawbacks are:
–You can only get wi-​fi in the lobby and in the basement. I think that’s because they want people to interact with each other as opposed to sitting in their room all the time. They also probably don’t want people on the internet Skyping while others are sleeping.
–The hostel is near the train and trolley, so it gets a little loud but they sell ear plugs for very cheap.

Bestes Hostel unserer Reise!

This hostel isn’t really in the middle of the craic (oh yeah, look at me, Ms. Americana using the local lingo – holler!), but it’s close enough.
It’s located down an alley, next to another hostel and the hotel that is also Isaac’s. Transportation is pretty close by, and you are RIGHT ACROSS from the Busarus stop.
If you’re looking for a cheap place to stay and don’t mind a little walking, then this is the place for you.
Don’t use the internet at the hostel, it’s a rip off – walk down the alley to the internet café where it’s € 1/​hour and .15 per page to print.
Also there’s a market within walking distance, so that is lovely! :)

Since this is the first time in a Hostel I have little to compare to, but for the price I paid I cannot complain one bit.
Clean rooms and bedding, the only messy thing was the GF and her clothes everywhere (along with mine).
Great place. I noticed on the wall that it was the 10^th best in Dublin. It would be interesting and amazing to see what the others are like.
Highly recommended.

An okay-​ish hostel just around the corner from Busaras — the reception and common areas have been renovated recently, and the rooms are what you will expect from a standard hostel — clean, and tidyness depending on your roommates. Not the best hostel in town, but I’ve seen much much worse.

A friend of mine recently stayed here when she was in town and I went to pick her up there. I found the hostel really nice and they had a cool downstairs eating area that tends to a really nice communal feel. It’s super convenient to Busaras and Connolly Station and thus it’s perfect if you’re looking to go somewhere early the next morning.
The only thing I didn’t like is that it’s down a dark alleyway. I’m sure it’s perfectly safe and I’ve never ever once heard a bad thing about it. It just gave me an uneasy feeling walking down it in the darkness. It’s also a bit of a walk away from city centre after a night out. A walk that is a bit sketchy at parts. So really I’d just recommend to get a taxi back!

J’ai éte un peu deçu concernant l’hygièné et la propreté de leur douche. L’étage où j’étais était bcp moins bien entretenu que d’autres!!!

Isaacs is really conveniently located for Bus Aras, but apart from that, is a little far away from the action in the centre of town. Hiding away off the main street down a little old alleyway (quaintly named Frenchman’s Lane), the hostel is far bigger than it looks from the outside. The whole hostel was under renovation when I was there in April, and they’ve done a really good job. The front lobby is huge and modern, with tables and benches where guests congregate until the 11pm curfew in the evenings. There’s a really cool cellar-​basement with a few computers (with internet and Skype headsets that actually work), some benches for chats with other travellers, and a sauna which is free for guests. Continental breakfast is included in the price, and there’s a café adjoining the lobby if you want something a bit more substantial.

Isaac’s was the first place I landed when I arrived in Dublin. I chose this hostel over the hundreds of others because of its proximity to Busaras and the picture of the hostel lobby on the website.
Yes, it is close to Busaras, and yes, the hostel lobby is nice. In future though, I’d probably opt to stay at a hostel in the Temple Bar region or on the southside… a little bit closer to the action and a little further away from the dodgy northside.
As far as hostels go, Isaacs is pretty good — friendly staff (big bonus!), fantastic common room, nice enough rooms, free breakfast, and large kitchen in which backpackers are able to cook meals.
The downsides of my stay were the proximity to the train line and associated noise (although you do become immune after a while!) and the fact that there were a lot of building and repair works going on while I was there. Also, the showers alternated between freezing cold and boiling hot, you never knew what you’d get!
And just beware that if you’re staying by yourself in a mixed dorm, you may very well find yourself shacked up with a group of 17 year old can sculling, bad-​brand vodka downing mingers from Birmingham… it happened to me!!!

Isaac Hostel is very cool. I was in a 16 bed-​room which was clean and accommodating. The staff was nice and helpful. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that the lobby had a curfew (23:00).
The hostel has a restaurant right next to it and you can order a Full Irish Breakfast — VERY GOOD!
The hostel was right next to the rail track so you can hear when the local trains are coming, but after awhile you get use to the sound of screeching that you don’t even realize the rails are right there.
The had a full kitchen that everyone can use. Just buy your groceries and make it in the kitchen. Cheap & Affordable!

Ein nettes Hostel im Herzen von Dublin. Es ist recht teuer aber für Dublin nichts ungewöhliches. Man wohnt in Einzel-​, Doppel– oder Gruppenzimmern und teilt sich in jedem Bereich ein großes Gemeinschaftsbad. Das Früchstück ist für Irisch Verhältniss
gut und genau das richtige, um den Tag zu beginne.
Das Publikum ist recht jung und es kann Nachts hin und wieder ein klein bisschen laut sein. Was aber nicht sein muss!
Der Service ist einfach und schnell. Man bekommt vor Ort genug Info für eine Stadt-​Tour und muss nicht unbedingt noch in eine Touristeninformation.
Die Betten sind okay und die Ausstattung ist sauber und gemüdlich!

great wee hostel for only10 euro per night, right in the heart of the city.
Formely a wine warehouse, it is opposite the bus, train and the Lucas tram station.
It is so handy for most of the poular places in town.
The bunk rooms are shared, but very well maintained and clean, but for 10euro a night it is not bad.
It is listed also as one of the best Hostels in Europe.
