History

Established in 2010.

It’s a love story that lies behind the opening of this Belgian Chocolate Boutique. Irishman Declan and his Belgian partner Inge met through friends in Ghent a few years ago. The couple’s long-​distance romance blossomed and having had enough of commuting back anf forth, Inge decided Belgian Chocolates were the answer! So in a way that many Irish have left home for foreign land and set up a traditional Irish Pub, Inge has come to Dublin and opened a boutique selling Belgian’s finest fresh chocolates.

Very unprofessional and inconsiderate manner of conducting business. I contacted Leonidas by email (because I do not live in Ireland) to place an order for local delivery to a friend recuperating from surgery. I contacted them 4 days ago and have yet to receive the information requested to fulfill the order. Have been told repeatedly by the employee that I will be emailed «later» despite the fact that this is a time-​sensitive, ASAP order. This manner of conducting business is totally unacceptable, rude, and unprofessional. Found another chocolate shop in Dublin that is friendly, polite and accommodating. Is that too much to expect?!

Mmm… chocolate… I am a chocolaholic but that does not mean that I love any chocolate. I love good chocolate and I expect it to make me feel good after one piece and Leonidas does that. The chocolate is creamy and I have tasted a lot of their chocolates and I have not found one piece that was bitter, which is what you want to avoid even if it is more than 70% which is when chocolate has a tendency to become bitter.
The store is not that big but it has a bigger selection than you think and the staff seems friendly and willing to talk about the product. Just which they had tasters, YUM!

I first fell in love with Leonidas in the Amsterdam Airport many years ago and that desire has followed me around the world as I believe these are some of the best chocolates out there.
This particular location, like the others, has their chocolates come in from Belgium … both individual pieces (buy one piece or create your own assortment box if you wish), bars (only 1 Euro each!) and other seasonal specialty items.
As Sadie said, Inge is definitely welcoming and friendly and if you’re in the Jervis Centre you should stop by, say hi and get some chocolates.

What a fabulous chocolate shop!
All of the chocolates are fresh and handmade, they let you pick your own too.
These are famous chocolates from Belgium! I met the owner, a Belgian lady called Inge, who recently opened the shop with her Irish partner Declan. She was really lovely, she told me all about how she came from Belgium to open a Belgian chocolate shop in Dublin after falling in love with an Irish man.
Very warm, welcoming friendly service and possible the best chocolate you’ll ever taste!

It’s hard to beat Leonidas. Belgian chocolates at their best. I think part of the pleasure is at looking at the rows upon rows of chocolates and truffles laid out before you. They are little bits of perfection and just look delicious.
Boxes are made up to your taste or ready to go. I love the white chocolate truffles, they are to die for… but hey, I’m not picky. I’d eat the whole box if I had the chance!
