McQuillan Tools

I moved here from California last year. I’m a tool kind of guy. Had to sell all my machine tools owing to the voltage difference between EU and US. So I get here and I can’t find anything. Maybe in N. Ireland. Maybe across the Irish sea in the UK. But the ROI really sucks for tooling.
But then I found this place, while looking for something completely different on Capel Street. It isn’t Harbor Freight, but it’s miles ahead of most other tool outlets in Dublin.
It’s a tool store for grown-​ups and inspires confidence.

I’ve always known about McQuillans as my Dad is a DIY King and he would go to McQuillans to look upomn thier wide and wonderful selection of tools for pleasure in much the same as some women go clothes window-​shopping. I’ve been in a few times now but never had much reason to go in as I was always able to borrow what I needed from home. But now I have lots of DIY to get done and too many tools to borrow so I ventured into McQuillans and left with everything I needed.
I had it in my mind to get a particular type of saw that I wasn’t sure existed. I know Dad had one years ago at home but he’d had that since he was a chisler so I imagined they might no longer be available. But there it was in McQuillans. BOOM!
I picked up a small assortment of tools and the next day our new back garden was transformed from shameful to Shangri-​La.

This is no place for pink tool sets or garden gnomes, McQuillan tools is serious business.
One of the biggest shops on Capel street (and brightest), McQuillan’s specialise in just about every piece of professional equipment for the building trade. For DIY’ers looking to dig a few ditches or take down a pine tree or two, McQuillan’s also offers a rental service for the heavy machines that get the job done.
If you’re less than pro and looking to learn more before rewiring the gaff, you’ll find an excellent selection of DIY books to help keep the roof over your head in one solid piece.

McQuillans is the Disneyland/​Alton Towers for any power tool fanatic. Its double fronted shop on Capel street is an aladians cave of tools, DIY equipment and all you need to built well anything really.
Long a stable of builders and tradespeople in Dublin and further a field. McQuillans only problem is really its location with lack of parking a big issue. This isn’t really their fault and despite the congestion the place is always busy.
Athough its not a hardware shope per sé its as good as one. Anyone handy at DIY will know its of the best spots in Dublin for tools and equipement and competitivly priced. Also a good idea if your getting a basic tool kit together.
They also have a shop in Blanchardstown store, in the shopping centre, which is open on Sundays.
