Great food. Perfect spot for match day and plenty of tables to go around. I’d recommend getting here early on match day as Ranelagh is jammers on Heineken Cup or Irish game days, so if you want a table get here early! I had the wings with hot sauce and they were lovely, really tangy. Food is nicely presented on wooden boards as well. Drink isn’t too expensive, its certainly cheaper than other places in Ranelagh!

I always seem to end up in this place! Great option if you don’t fancy going on a «proper» night. The place has a late license and the crowd is good craic. If there’s a bit of rugby on this place is a great alternative to it’s donnybrook counterparts. It gets pretty nuts come Friday/Saturday so well worth a pop in!

Word on the street is that this is a place to come for excellent pub grub. «it shares a kitchen with the really good restaurant above it». I have been told on countless occasions by my wife pretending to be several different people. Message received loud and clear, we should go to mcsorleys. It was mothers day, so wifey decided to treat us to lunch, that way she won’t have to chase me for the evening to wash dishes; everyone’s a winner when you think about it. I had the soup of the day which was apparently mushroom… it turned out to be a very good tomato so I didn’t grumble. Junior had chicken strips and chips which were fine, wifey had the hot and spicy wings and they were not bad at all(very similar to Elephant & Castle). Overall it wasn’t blow away, but not bad and I’ll have no objections to going back.

I love this pub, it’s got everything you need for a great Saturday afternoon. Be it the rugby, the craic, the(amazing) food or the banter– it’s all here. We regularly come here but we don’t even live locally, it’s worth the trip. Try the chicken wings, the chorizo ragu or the giant wedges! Just get down here soon and enjoy it yourself!

Tends to get really packed in the late hours of the night, especially after Smyth’s closes. But if you get the chance to get in a little earlier, they’ve got a fantastic selection of bottled craft beer. In addition to the semi-dance club the back turns into on Friday /Saturday nights, it’s also a great venue to watch a match on the weekend, but it does get really crowded, so you’d want to get there early! At the end of the day, this pub holds a special place in my heart because it’s the only pub that stayed open on a Sunday night until 4AM for the Super Bowl! :) It’s a great time — definitely worth a visit if you haven’t been!

Returned 2012. Simple and tasty pub food Grilled ham and cheese, with delicious Fennel Soup, € 17 with two pale ales(pic uploaded). McSorley’s pub now carries craft brews. Tried the simply marvelous Galway Hooker Irish Pale Ale

«Kettling» is a tactic used by police to control large crowds of protestors. Protestors are corralled in enclosed spaces amd exhausted until they disperse. I think the inspiration for kettling comes from Irish pubs. McSorleys is a classic example of how to get the minimum amount of use from the maximum amount of space. When the place fills up, the bar becomes inaccessible from all sides. So you need to use the always-fun, never-risky«passing pints over the heads of complete strangers» manouver. I imagine McSorleys is a good spot for a quiet pint. Maybe being squashed by complete randomers in a drizzle of vodka/cranberry and Heineken is not how it was meant to be experienced.

This pub is perfect for the green line luas challenge. The beechwood stop is only down the road. Like lots of irish pubs this is a pub of wo halves but unlike oher irish pubs of two halves this one doesn have an uncomfortable old man half, you can see which half is supposed to be full of smarmy old men but the old men are totally missing, well the smarmy ones are anyway! The other half is really modern with clean warm surfaces and full of fancy people dressed up for a night out. its a bit more than a noremal local pub, its defnitely a destination that you can spend a whole night out in.

If you’re looking for a nice, comfortable grown-up pub head to McSorley’s in Ranelagh. Ranelagh itself is a good place to go for a few pints if you don’t fancy going into the busy city centre, be it for a few quiet mid-week pints or a proper night-out at the weekend. McSorleys a nice pub without any airs or graces, but with a dress code. This is the kind of pub where you will find South-Dublin types in their mid-twenties having a few drinks. As with most pubs in South Dublin they show the big Rugby matches on TV– always a plus for me– and the staff are nice and efficient. McSorley’s is open late, so it tends to be quite busy and the music can be loud at the weekends but all in all a very nice pub to meet friends and start off– or finish– your night out.

I think it’s getting harder and harder to name a good pub in Dublin for a night out. I hadn’t been to McSorley’s in ages and a few friends had mentioned that it was good fun. We had a really great night. I bumped into loads of people I hadn’t seen in ages. It was a big mixture of people and anything goes clothes wise, my only advice is that it gets very hot! The music was brilliant, from great golden oldies to the songs you love right now. We didn’t feel like moving on enjoyed ourselves until the bitter end at 2.30am.

McSorleys in Ranelagh is one of those pubs that most Dubliners have heard or and have even been in — it’s a bit of a landmark in Dublin 6 actually. And it’s suitable for both a quiet mid-week pint and a wild weekend night out as it opens on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 2am. The last time I was there was for a birthday party on a Saturday night and I really enjoyed it. It was busy, but not uncomfortably so — you could still make your way to the loos without getting squashed. I was delighted to see they’d opened a smoking garden, although I had to leave it after a guy out there tried to chat me up and then vomited beside my foot! I am fairly sure it was the drink and not me that made him sick though! And I would imagine it was the quantity he consumed that was the problem because in my opinion McSorleys’ pints are of a high calibre, as are the floor staff, who I found to be most obliging with taking orders when you’re too lazy to go to the bar.

As anyone in a Leinster Jersey will tell you, Ranelagh is a great place to go drinking and McSorleys is one of the better pubs to do this in. As well as being spacious and lively, Its Ranelagh’s only late night pub. Move away from the Off licence kids its open till 3! Expect to find locals rubbing shoulders with the afformentioned Leinster heads, you’ll know them by the collars up and plummy accents. Don’t let this put you off as McSorleys is good both for a late night session or a mid week few quiet sociables. Food served here too.
