O’Callaghan Alexander Hotel

Overall, we had a great stay at the hotel! The breakfast included was great, with lots of options. The room was spacious with comfortable beds. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that we asked for a cot (extra bed) several times — the first two times we were told that one was available and would be delivered to our room. The third time, there was no longer one available. So my cousin who made a last minute trip to spend one night in Dublin with us had to sleep on the floor.
I wished the location was a bit closer to the center of town — but that was my fault for not doing more research. Overall, it was a great stay!

Great location for sightseeing the city. Rooms on the small side. Mattress was not firm. Front desk peeps were extremely helpful and accommodating. It was impossible to figure out the cooling/​heating system. We were not told you had to put your hotel card key in the slot by the light switch to turn on the lights. Wi-​fi was spotty.

This hotel was nothing special, but that’s ok since we just used its central location as a launch point. It served its purpose but nothing more.
Helpful and lovely front desk staff. The room safe was altogether missing, the air conditioner was clunky. But the place was clean and safe.
By U.S. Standards, I felt like it was a Hampton Inn at Ritz Carlton prices. It’s ok, but not for what you pay. Variety of electrical outlets in the room was a bonus! Good wifi.

We chose this hotel because the tour we were on was supposed to start out of here. From the beginning we had problems here. My parents had a room here their air didn’t work in two rooms that were given over two nights. The first day they were there, their bags were gone through and someone tried to break into their safe. Which is now broken.
The plus however is the front desk people were very kind and helpful. They were honest when it came to which tours to book. They even sold and booked tickets for some. They did eventually rectify the situation for my parents after they changed their room for the third time and they upgraded them. That is why they are receiving two stars instead of one.

No no no … We had 4 rooms in this hotel and each one of the rooms had an issue. Ones sink didn’t work. Ones air-​conditioning doesn’t work their response oh sorry nothing we could do about it … Nothing special about this place … I’m glad we’re only here for 1 night

I recently stayed 2 nights in Dublin and loved the Alexander. The location is near St. Stephens Green park so its centrally located but not in the touristy area like Grafton Street.
The staff was very friendly & accommodating, they helped with direction & ringing me a cab when needed. The Breakfast bar was good if you like Irish bkfst.
Right around the corner is the Hop on Hop off bus stop which we used to move around town. Right next door is a friendly neighborhood pub called the Gingerman — great place to stop and have a pint!
Free WiFi is 1 plus!
Beds are comfy, rooms are clean … its 4 * rated, I could see how if you are used to American standards some people may argue it to a 3, but overall my experience was very pleasant and Id recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good affordable hoetl in Dublin.

Great staff! Very accommodating for our extremely early check in and great restaurant suggestions. The breakfast buffet was just right with excellent unlimited coffee. Beds are super comfy.

Great hotel, super clean, big rooms, and great staff. The bar was always empty, but the drinks were great, and the Gingerman is right next door if you want a great hang!
I don’t however recommend the breakfast, there are so many other options for yummy food in Dublin, don’t stay there, get out and experience the city.
It’s a bit far from the nightlife, but not too long a walk if you don’t mind. Or just grab a cab.

I stayed at the Alexander hotel in Nov. 2012. It has a modern look to the hotel. Nice lobby area and front desk staff very friendly and helpful. There was a problem locating my reservation, but the staff quickly fixed the situation. The room was a good size as was the bathroom. Did not make use of the restaurant. The location is very good, convenient to all the tourist spots.

I had a great stay at this hotel.
This would be a 5 star review, except the internet was really flaky with my iPad. I would connect for a little while, and it would suddenly cut out, causing me to have to turn wi-​fi off, turn it back on, then re-​connect. Additionally, I would have to reconnect by entering in my room number and name pretty much every time I turned the device off. This issue had something to do with the program they were using to keep their internet secure, and it just was a huge pain the week I was there. I’m not sure if this would be an issue on a laptop instead of a tablet.
The bed was really comfortable. The air conditioning was nice, but a little loud. There were some U.S. sockets in the wall, which was really convenient. Additionally, you could turn the main room lights off from the bed (the switches were embedded in the headboard) which is one of the most ingenious things I have seen in a hotel. I would definitely recommend getting the floor mat for the shower — it is offered as being available via a sign on the wall; I didn’t get one, and I almost killed myself by stepping into and immediately slipping in the very slick shower.
One negative about the room: the door wouldn’t shut automatically, so I had to make sure I pulled it closed every time that I left. This wasn’t terrible, but it was just another thing to worry about.
I didn’t try the breakfast while I was there, but I did have dinner in the restaurant one night (the salmon with vegetables and gnocchi follow by apple pie and fresh cream), and that meal was absolutely amazing.
The location is really the key feature of this hotel. You are within walking distance of a ridiculous number of shops, restaurants, bars, and bus lines. This is a great place to be if you are visiting Dublin on vacation.

Das Hotel ist zentral gelegen. Der Eingangsbereich ist gepflegt, das Zimmer ist etwas verwohnt mit Riesen Bett aber ohne Safe. Das Frühstück ist mittelmäßig, das Personal nicht sehr aufmerksam. Fazit: für 80 EUR (inkl. Frühstück) pro Person das DZ stimmt das Preisleitung Verhältnis leider nicht.

Staff very helpful. Beds are not the greatest, king size is actually two twins put together. Rooms were clean. Toiletries supplied were lacking and just basics. No wash cloths, just towels and floor mats.
The location is very convenient to Trinity College and Temple Bar.
Breakfast came with our rooms and was very good.
One US outlet in room so don’t worry about adapters.
Wifi cost you € 14.50 for a 48 hour period unlimited data. This is not what they advertise on web site. Leads you to believe wifi is a feature of room. Things tuff everywhere I guess.
This is not a four star hotel, but I would return because of encounters I had with staff.

This hotel claims to be a 4-​star location. While there are aspects that are nice – the concierge, several bars, and a decent restaurant with continental breakfast – the room and its amenities were lacking. My non-​smoking room had the overwhelming aroma of cigarettes and many butts strewn on the ledge outside my window.
The remodel was decent but was somewhat shoddy – the washroom door would close but not lock and the tub was abnormally high and shallow. The heating and cooling unit seemed to have tantrums and would spew out hot or cold air without the touch of a button. The last straw was when the housekeeper managed to rip the cable cord out of the wall which resulted in no television service. The television itself stopped powering on or off soon after the cable cord was marred.
The location of the hotel was great – very close to the Government House, Trinity College, and within walking distance of Temple Bar and the shopping district. The people were nice and knowledgeable about what Dublin has to offer.
But this is by no means a 4-​star hotel. I would consider staying there again, but I would look into other options before choosing the O’Callaghan Alexander.
