History
Established in 1988.
In 1976 Larry Mullen, put together a small rock group called ‘The Hype’. In this band were Adam Clayton, David Evans (The Edge) and Paul Heusen (Bono). The Hype or more famously known as U2 performed regular gigs in this Hotel during the early 70’s.
Other giants of rock such as Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy began his career here with his band ‘The Black Eagles’. O Shea’s Hotel recently hosted the 21st Anniversary «Vibe for Philo».
In 2004 Sir Bob Geldof of Live Aid fame, made a documentary here chronicling his early days playing gigs at O Shea’s Hotel with his infamous band ‘The Boomtown Rats’.
During the Irish Civil War O’Shea’s Hotel was held by an Anti Treaty IRA garrison of over 30 men, led by Liam O Doherty. They eventually surrendered after the Hotel was shelled by close range artillery. The building was extensively damaged.
