Pet Land

I was in here recently buying some wild bird food when I remembered something.
I bought a cat flap here for my sisters house. Last year our nephew broke the door of said cat flap (as it turns out he is not as small as a cat).
So we looked online and saw that you could buy replacement doors for the very same cat flap. But as we are conscience of the Irish economy and being good Irish citizens we phoned Petland to see about getting them to order one in and buy it from them. However they told us that it was impossible to buy a replacement door and that we would only be able to buy the whole product again. We said that wasn’t true and that we found plenty of suppliers online that sold them. They still tried to convince us that doing that was impossible…
Maybe I am being pessimistic about this, but as far as I’m concerned they knew full well replacements doors could be bought, but tried their best to sell us the whole product again.

I just spent € 63 on cat food.
In light of that fact, I can offer no more than a tepid review. This place is pricey. Very pricey. But in Dublin (especially without a car) your options are limited. This store is the least-​bad that I have found, and that’s the best I can say about it.

This was one of my regular haunts at one point… before I realised that the vet 5 mins down the road sold the cat food I had been travelling 5 miles to get from Petland.
A tremendous little shop but I miss the parrott… bah? I hear you say?, they used to have a grey and white parrott that lived there and never shut up, hilarious!
These days the shop is a bit quieter but they still stock a huge range of different feeds for cats, dogs, birds, fish, gerbils and rabbits, they also have a big selection of pet toys. My cat Missey loves the little toy mice with the feathers where there should be a tail. If she ever sees a real mouse she wont have a clue what to do.

I love Petland. Actually I’ll rephrase that. I love pet shops. Petland just happens to be a personal favourite because I go into it so much. I had a pretty bad run of experiences with goldfish lately and had to keep returning to get more. Maybe they were giving me faulty fish. Maybe my fish just began giving up on life because my apartment is so very messy.
Either way, the guy who worked there kept giving me stern looks when I kept returning for more fish. He really cared about those fish, which I consider a good sign for a pet shop.
As with most pet shops, pet land deals mainly in the big three: fish, birds and bunnies as well as some guinea pigs, hamsters and non-​adorable pets like snakes and spiders and stuff. Not to mention loads of toys, accesories and cages for your four legged friends.
But please don’t impulse buy pets. I still carry an awful lot of guilt over the short life span of my late guinea pig.
