They’re very gentle when they handle my hair, and highly skilled; the waves of the blow dry last for a very long time and the products they use smells good! However whenever I make an appointment I seem to get in 10 – 15 mins behind my appointment time which defeats the whole purpose of making an appointment.

Great salon when you are on the go it in a hurry. I came here a few months ago for a wash and blow dry and told them I was in a mad hurry hoping to be in and out in an hour and they had me done in 25 minutes. They had two people drying my hair at the same time — really good service. Also as it is so big it’s always easy to get an appointment.

Today I saw a Kerastase boxset in the window of Peter Mark Valentino that had a price tag of 40.05EUR, so I went into buy it. The price on the till rang up as 44.50EUR, so I pointed out the price tag on the box in the window display. The guy said that it should be 44.50EUR but as it was displayed at 40.05EUR, they would have to charge me that. His supervisor /senior colleague disagreed however and said the till price could not be changed. I pointed out that should charge me the price displayed. But she continued to say she couldn’t change the price on the till, that it was impossible and the price was locked in. I told her I would buy the same boxset in another salon. Which I did, I was happier to give another business my money, even it was for the same price. It’s not impossible to change the price in the till, but she either didn’t know how to unlock the price or she chose not to. This is the second bad experience I’ve had with Peter Mark over prices within the last five days…

I’m not sure what the«Valentino» part of the name refers to, but it seems to add about 20% onto the price of a haircut compared to all the other Peter Marks in Dublin. This is PM’s flagship salon, the interior is swanky, the staff immaculately presented, they give you coffee or tea with some yummy chocolates on the side, but the one time I got my hair cut here I was disappointed and I haven’t been back since.

Peter Mark has 2 salons in the Stephen’s Green Centre — Valentino is on the same level as the main salon just a little further along the balcony. I’ve been here a few times and got a reasonable cut each time, but nothing special for the price. You can generally get a basic cut without an appointment, and you get a free coffee(or a € 37 coffee and a free haircut, depending on your viewpoint). The Java Republic chocolates that come with the coffee are great. But back to the hair… I think the problem here is that Peter Mark are a big chain trying to do luxury for the masses. Unfortunately(and it might be different for the ladies) I can’t help but feel you get a luxury price tag and a glorified barber job. I’m going to get a few cheap barber cuts, save my pennies and go somewhere truly luxurious, like Brown Sugar.
