RTE 2fm

I hate having to do this but the new line-​up and the behaviour of RTE has forced me to renounce my title as devoted listener.
I listened to 2FM as a teenager but then left the station for years in favour of Today FM and Cork stations. I was lured to 2FM by the breakfast show with Colm and Jim-​Jim. I started listening to the other shows too and soon started listening for much of the day when not in work. The new schedule has seen Jim-​Jim Nugent resign and Nikki Hayes has been unceremoniously axed. For some reason, it’s been deemed appropriate to put Hector Ó hEochagáin in the breakfast slot instead. I’m sure his mother loves him, but I find him difficult to tolerate at the best of times and would doubtless be driven to homicide if I had to listen to him without adequate caffeine. I’m switching my allegiance.
Ryan Tubridy has taken over the 9−11am slot which should be good. Colm Hayes is on from 11−1pm. Golden oldie Larry Gogan is there to get you through lunch from 1−2pm with Rick O’Shea on from 2 – 4.30pm. I’m glad they kept Will Leahy in his slot-​he kept me entertained through many drives home from work. I feel sorry for Damien Farrelly who has apparently been given the 6−7am slot-​stupid dragging someone out of bed for that long. Get Hector up earlier-​it might keep him quiet.
Can’t even be bothered going through the rest of the schedule-it’s woeful.
The 2 stars are for Ryan Tubridy, Will Leahy and Larry Gogan. I’m finding myself another breakfast show though and most likely another station.

There was a time when i would have considered 2FM as a real good solid service that provides a medium through which new Irish music could promote itself to the country. However more recently i have found that this station is losing its touch and is no longer listening to the amazing music that is on show in the country every weekend.
The new website may seem funky, but there is no longer email addresses provided for all the DJ’s, instead they have built in comment forms which dont allow an artist to send their music to the DJ… and not an address in sight…(though you can guess the address)
The station itself has a good mix of talk and music. certain nights bring different sounds, but pop is still king and you will get all the hits all the time.
I am a fan of Dave Fanning… sometimes. and his return may give the station a new lease of life.

2FM hosts popular (not too mentally challenging) phone-​in chat shows, chart shows and general music news and goss shows. It’s easy listening and you’ll often be treated to the delightful voice of Gerry Ryan while sitting in the hair-​dressers or a taxi. Expect to hear mainstream pop, rock and some classic tracks.
DJ Dave Fanning is another favourite. He’s been on the go for years now, loved by many, disliked by some. He speaks at a phenomenal rate and if you question his taste, I reckon you can’t question his passion for music.
2FM also give decent coverage of big gigs and festivals taking place around the country if you can’t quite make it yourself.

With dj’s such as Ruth Scott, Dave Fanning and Will Leahy, it’s not only popular with Dublin folk, but it has a huge following all over the country.
It has huge listenership — usually capturing 17% of the nation’s audience and its home to the longest running radio show in the country — The Gerry Ryan Show.
