Sixt

Disgraceful customer service. Arrived after red eye from California to the longest wait at a baggage carousel ever experienced –1.25hours. THEN the Sixt experience began!
Of all the desks Sixt had the longest, slowest lines. Got to the front of the line and the guy about to serve us declares he’s going on lunch break. He could see it had taken us a long time to get served.
The we get to David Callaghan. I tell him we want to decline insurance as our Visa signature credit card provides primary coverage making additional insurance redundant. He asked us for a letter of coverage. Already exasperated I may have uttered wtf. I said he could call the number on the back of the credit card to confirm. He told me «I don’t like your tone sir, if you don’t change your attitude I’m not going to serve you». I asked if I could use his phone to ask my credit card to fax him a letter. He refused — forcing us to take $ 120 of insurance we knew we didn’t need. My wife came over exhausted — he was just as rude and blunt to her. I said in customer service it helps if you show a bit of compassion and empathy. I think he had it in for Americans who think they’re entitled to customer service and he was going to show who was boss.
Called the customer service number «this mailbox is full».
We did get a decent car. I now dread the rental return experience. I’ve used Sixt a lot and normally swear by them and tell everyone to use them — not after this debacle!

J’ai lu beaucoup d’avis sur cette agence de Dublin et je suis étonné après coup car je n’ai rencontré aucun soucis. Je n’ai pas eu à payer d’assurance supplémentaire, pas d’amende car j’ai bien pensé à payer le toll, bref… pas de mauvaise surprise !
Alors bien sur il faut maîtriser la langue pour pas passer à côté de quelque chose, il faut penser à payer le péage de Dublin (e-​flow) et rendre la voiture avec le plein et en bon état de propreté.
Si, j’ajoute tout de même qu’on a eu une voiture qui consommait pas mal alors qu’elle est quasi neuve, mais on né faisait même pas 600 km avec un plein de 45 litres ! C’est peu beaucoup; c’est là que je pense qu’ils achètent les premières motorisations qui les rendent un peu poussives dans les routes un peu escarpées, ce qui leur fait boire un peu plus d’essence…

Falls der Ausleihende keine Kreditkarte mit PIN hat (was bei etwas älteren Karten wahrscheinlich ist) oder man die PIN nicht weiß, weil sie zB nie abgefragt wurde, bekommt das Auto nicht ausgehändigt. Es reicht auch NICHT, wenn ein Mitreisender eine Karte mit PIN hat, das wird nicht akzeptiert, die Kreditkarte muss auf den Namen des Fahrzeugmieters ausgestellt sein.
Dieses interessante «Detail» fehlt sowohl in den AGB als auch im Mietwagen-​Voucher!
Glücklicherweise bin ich Wochen vorher in einer Pressenotiz darauf aufmerksam geworden, durch reinen Zufall. Und nun noch besser: Ich habe die (deutsche) sixt-​Hotline angerufen, wo man mir erklärt hat, das sei ein Gerücht, ich solle einfach zum Sixt-​Schalter am Flughafen in Dublin gehen, das hätte schon seine Ordnung. Nun, ich bat trotzdem höflich darum, mir dies kurz per Email in Englisch zu bestätigen. Das wurde dann schnell und nachdrücklich als «unmöglich» bezeichnet, weil man dort an der Stelle, mit der ich telefoniert hatte, die Möglichkeit der schriftlichen Kommunikation nicht habe. Aha … Ich ließ nicht locker, wurde weiter verbunden, wieder die gleiche Aussage, aber offensichtlich von jemandem, der befugt ist, in schriftliche Kommunikation mit dem Kunden zu treten. Ergebnis, nach einer ganzen Weile: ja, es sei leider so, wie von mir beschrieben, der Wagen würde nur bei Vorlage einer Kreditkarte mit PIN ausgehändigt, aber — schön gönnerhaft formuliert — «alle in Deutschland ausgegebenen Kreditkarten haben ja sowieso eine PIN», man sehe also nicht, wo das Problem läge, und implizit wird mir untergeschoben, ich kleines Dummchen hätte halt nur die PIN verschlampt. Und: ich hätte ja noch genug Zeit, eine neue Kreditkarte mit PIN zu beantragen. Alternativ könne man, falls ich das wünsche, gnädigerweise die Reservierung kostenfrei stornieren.
Letzteres hätte ich liebend gerne getan, wenn nicht inzwischen die Preise beim mindestens 1.5-fachen im Vergleich zur Originalbuchung angekommen waren. Da war es in der Tat günstiger, kostenpflichtig eine neue Kreditkarte zu bestellen…
Nun mit der neuen Karte mal wieder telefonisch bei sixt vorstellig geworden und erfahren, dass «natürlich» bei Abholung die Karte, mit der das Auto bestellt wurde, vorgelegt werden muss.
Wenn ich mich von diesem Schock erholt habe, werde ich die Buchung stornieren und woanders buchen, die Preisdifferenz ist dann auch schon egal. Sixt — nie wieder!

Um dem Sixt-​Drama einen krönenden Abschluss zu geben, wurde bei Rückgabe versucht, uns einen Altschaden unterzujubeln. Dieser Schaden war natürlich nicht im System und musste neu sein.
Netter Versuch. Vor Fahrtantritt hatten wir den Wagen abgecheckt und diesen Schaden mit Fotos dokumentiert. Die Fotos reichten dem Mitarbeiter auch erstaunlich schnell aus, ohne weitere Diskussion.
Ich will gar nicht wissen, wieviele vor uns mit diesem Schaden schon abgezogen wurden, da eigene Beweise fehlten…

WOAH HIDDEN FEES!!! My husband and I used this company for our honeymoon to Ireland. He paid in advance so we thought it would be okay. When we showed up, they asked us if we were planning to go to N. Ireland too — we said yes and they added another fee since «technically its another country so the insurance is more». Then they added the «required» insurance (they said if we didnt get it there would be a 1500 euro hold on our credit card) and a convenience fee for us picking it up at the airport — nevermind that we booked ahead and therefore it wasnt really inconvenient for them at all — the bill came out to almost double!!!

Like other reviewers have already reported, it was a very ugly scene at the counter when I told them I was not interested in their insurance package. Like the others, I had a letter from my insurance company saying I was fully covered for Ireland. When I mentioned that prior to booking I had already discussed insurance with their Customer Service, I was told that the US people don’t understand how things work in Ireland. As I was walking away to pick up my car, the Rep was actually yelling at me saying «do you realize you will be driving uninsured in Ireland?» Talk about intimidation.
Because I had been warned about the Dublin Rental car desks — all of them — not just Sixt — being the best in Europe at Bait and Switch, I became a member of the Sixt Club so that I could prepay (i.e. not have to negotiate at the counter) and be guaranteed «Express service» upon arrival.
There was only one line at the counter. Was told they had a manpower shortage and couldn’t provide Express service that day. At least 3 people in front of me were also Express Pre-​Pay customers. Took me 45 – 50 minutes to get to the counter. And then another 20 – 25 to argue over the insurance with them.
ALSO be aware that Sixt Customer Service desk is only open M-​F, 8:00 — 5:00 EDT. Heaven help you if you have a problem that transcends one of their local service desks.
Other than all of that: We were happy with the car. Because they didn’t have the economy model we had booked, we were upgraded without extra charge. And once we got thru the booking line, the drive-​away process was quite efficient.

I have never had such a horrendous customer service experience in my life. The customer service rep outright refused to consider my outside cdw coverage, even though I provided a letter from my company specifically stating this coverage for Ireland. He refused to let me call the customer service line of my cdw provider to further verify my coverage. He also did not allow me to speak to his manager when I asked to do so. I cannot imagine a worse car rental experience. I am horrified that this company is still in business.

We rented a car from Sixt for two weeks in October 2013. Avoid them like a plague. When my flight was changed to arrive at Shannon Airport (where Sixt has no office), Sixt refused to cancel my rental. Instead, they told me I would lose my entire payment. So I had to drive from Shannon Airport to Dublin to pick up my rental.
When I returned the car two weeks later, the Sixt technician who examined it told me there was nothing wrong. Today, I received a letter from Sixt informing me that they were charging my credit card over $ 200 for a damaged tire (even though I had purchased Sixt’s «tyre and windscreen» coverage.
I will never use these company again. I though I was getting a good deal. Instead of paying a bit over $ 500 for a two-​week rental, my charge has grown to around $ 1700. Beward of this company. They will RIP YOU OFF!!!

Sitting in the Dublin airport as I compose this. Sixt took our reservations, through orbitz and now has no car for us. Have been up to the counter a few times and have been told different stories by different agents. Overbooking and delays are one thing, but dishonesty shows such a lack of integrity.
I am very disappointed with Sixt in Dublin airport.
Update 3 hours later: now they required us to buy an ‘optional’ insurance package or they wouldn’t lease out the car. An agent basically admitted this bait and switch tactic is what they do to make their cars appear to be a good value on websites like Orbitz.
One more Update: another 2 hour later. After one more hour of waiting in the pick up location (4 in total), Sixt sent us out to enjoy Ireland. Total invoice was 2 times what they had quoted us on Orbitz.
The GPS I had rented stopped working after about an hour and would not take any more charge. Calls to Sixt went un-​answered and Voice mails were not returned. Only after Orbitz contacted them directly did we find that Sixt Dublin would only exchange the GPS in their airport facility.
The car drove fine, but the entire experience with the company was so bad I was very surprised and I would strongly advise against this agency for car rentals.

BUYER BEWARE!
We rented a car from SIXT Car Rental through a third party website
and got a nasty surprise when we went to collect the car. SIXT wanted to hold € 1100 as an excess damage waiver on our credit card. The third party website,
never mentioned this additional requirement. And once at the counter at SIXT, they would not let us cancel the reservation unless we paid an € 110 cancelation fee. SIXT were blaming
for this dilema and
were blaming SIXT. It seems to me that since they are somehow partnered together that they should give all the rental information upfront before you rent and not wait until you arrive at the counter. The week before, we rented from Hertz who only require a € 200 hold on your credit card. Lesson learned! Next time, I will stick to the larger more reputable companies and book directly from their website, that way I won’t be bounced around like a ping pong ball in the ‘Blame Game’.
