Smyths of Fairview is a national treaure. I love how polite, courteous, nice, efficient, everyone is, in a man’s pub. Drink I have had, food I have had, and I cannot fault it. Whatsoever. And it’s never ‘are you okay”, it’s ‘how are you? what would you like ?”, yeh, I am SO spoiled!!! Mash potato to die for, steaks, fish, veg, burgers, salads, name it, they have it … toasties … delicious …(if you get better in ‘temple bar’, wher da ?, let me know, please). And efficient, and glamourous(can’t think of her name now, but she is glamourous, and efficient, what are the chances … ?) staff. Love Smyths. Maria A

Perhaps not as intimate as nearby Gaffney’s, Smyth’s boasts food and is therefore one for the lunch crowd. It seemingly goes on forever — consisting as it does of several split levels. Upstairs the bay window offers a unique view of surrounding Fairview. They used to publicise their wares with a wonderful brochure proclaiming its fabulousness — it claims to have invented American bar food way back in 1996. One over-the-top quote concerned its«Barony Lounge» in which«you will rarely see a greater congeries(?) of age groups imbibing happily in the same pub.» In fairness, it has a brilliant series of photographs depicting the bombing of the local area during World War Two. Avoid on Sunday afternoons during televised soccer.
