Yesterday I had a Brazilian… no wait perhaps I had better start at the beginning of this story — for ladies only, gentlemen please don’t read any further as some of you may be jealous. I was crossing over O’Connell Street heading down to the GRO and there was this lovely little chap handing out leaflets saying about a special offer for a Wash /Cut /Blow Dry — short hair € 15 and medium/long for € 20. Normally I would totally ignore the very idea of getting my hair cut by such a place. However as I headed(excuse the pun) down the road I reasoned ‘It is cheap… if it is an awful cut it will grow again… there is a recession on… how bad could it be…’. I know welcome to my world. Found the place which had been pointed out by said little man. Wandered in with a certain amount of bravado and asked if any one was free. There was a certain amount of shouting for someone to come and see me and eventually a charming young lady came out and said that I could have my hair cut there and then. A small amount of banter went on about the length of my hair that I could not get away with the ‘short’ cost and it would not work out much cheaper having a dry cut or skipping the blow dry part. I decided to go for it and I was taken to the back room by a lovely young from Brazil(where the nuts come from but in Brazil they just call them nuts) who proceeded to wash my hair. Feeling at a small disadvantage lying back while a total stranger is washing your hair I am trying to engage in conversation to make sure he has actually picked up a pair of scissors before. Back to the front and I see a picture so I point and say like that. I have to admit he used the scissors like he had never held them before. I was never offered a cup of tea or coffee. The place was a bit tatty. The way he cut my hair was very different from what I experienced before. All that being said I got a great cut he was very particular about length, style and what he thought would suit me best. The poor girl kept coming over to sweep up my mop of locks from the floor. So the place may be a little tatty but it was clean and I was delighted with my now short hair cut. His name was Adolfo and they have a special on for Hi-lites € 59 which I fully intend to have done when I am next in the area… after all it will always grow out.
