The Grooming Rooms

Ok, so never available of the services here but have used them many a time to book vouchers and/​or booking my husband in for treatments. They are always so polite and professional, my husband always comes out of here raving about the place, he loves the time they spend with you whether just a haircut or the shaving treatments, he feels the attention to detail is second to none.
They also stock product for purchase which we’ve began to use to buy his products, after years using bog standard moisturisers and hair products, he’s now coming around to treating his hair and skin better (must be the worry of aging). The staff here are very helpful and great at identifying the best products for his hair/​skin type.
Would recommended in fact, they have now started lady treatments so I might have to try this place out myself very soon.

Approaching a year now with the grooming rooms and I make an appointment for same girl (Yan) each time.
Very professional from the time you enter to you leave and I have been late due to traffic and they still made the effort to accommodate. Yan is great and now knows what to do without even asking. My only issue is the lean forward for washing hair as it’s a tad awkward and a little odd.
Lovely building and waiting area and just across from the BT car park. They recently won the Irish Times best shops competition and you can see why.

Great experience at the Groomingrooms. The decoration is fabulous and they definitely take good care of you.
At first I was afraid that the place was just «poch» with no real expertise in hair cut. But I’ve been very surprised to see how they work (old school tools and moves) and the superb service they deliver.
I write this review in their waiting room because I am back for a new hair cut. I’ve been looking for a good barber in Dublin for one year now. I’ve finally found the good one… :-)

Not great. Went to the Grooming Rooms for a massage today. I was very nervous about it, being my first time at this sort of thing, but assumed I’d be dealt with sensitively. Front desk are very helpful and waiting room is lovely. I arrived dead on time — 5.50 for a 6pm, one-​hour appointment. First off, they take your credit card details over the phone, so I thought I had paid in advance, right? But after you’re finished, you’re asked to pay cash! Without any explanation at any point!
So I filled out a form in the waiting room that asked about my sleep patterns — suggesting an interest in the customers. I was greeted by the masseuse who was fairly friendly, at best. She asked me if I’d just finished work but that was where the small-​talk ended. Indeed, I think her main interest was ‘finishing work’, too. I was escorted into a massage room and told to ‘get myself ready’, before she left the room! She did not ask me was this new to me, did I know what to do, or anything. Now I’m very shy in these situations but I thought that if I threw myself off the deep end by doing this thing, I’d be dealt with sensitively.
So I’m standing in this dimly lit, ship’s cabin size room with just a sink, thinking to myself, «does get myself ready mean take all my clothes off?». I supposed it did. But I didn’t really know. When she returned I still had my clothes on, but she just went away again. Still, zero engagement with me! I gathered up my stuff and told her I was leaving — I said maybe this was a bad idea and «there’s clearly lots of things I’m supposed to know, but don’t know», so I was off.
She might have told me there was a cover you can lie under once you’ve taken your clothes off, which might have helped my nerves. In the dimly lit room, all I could see was a massage table with some rugs on it. I did not know the drill.
Only at that point, did she manage to put me at my ease by saying that I could just take off my shirt and lie down under the cover — and that we could just do a back massage. She did NOT explain, at all, that this meant my time was now being halved to half an hour! All she was thinking was she could get to her next client quicker and get off home before 8pm!
She stepped outside again and I decided to take everything off apart from my underwear — my work trousers would only get ruined lying on my stomach anyway. She returned and saw I’d stripped down, so it was pretty obvious I was warming to the idea. This she chose to ignore. She focused on my back for a long time, before I said «you can do the rest of me as well». There was a LONG silence, before she said «I don’t think we’ll have time». Still, she failed to explain that I was now a 30-​minute job, rather than the full hour I had booked. So I said, I’m sure we’ve got enough time? She still explained nothing. She reluctantly began massaging my legs for a short time (most painful bit) before telling me it was over. She left the room abruptly, telling me there was ‘no rush’ getting dressed to leave. Really?
Mind you, the massage itself was good and did make me feel relaxed, despite the pain. There was nice music playing too.
She saw me on my way up to the cash desk at reception. The girl there was very helpful — a totally different attitude to my masseuse. At this point I had no idea what the time was, but just felt the session had been quite quick. She asked me for € 40 in cash. I said wait a minute, has the price gone down? (The one-​hour I’d booked is € 70). She explained I had just had the back massage and that was half an hour, € 40. This had not been explained to me at all, I told her. I thought I was booked for an hour, said I. Indeed, the masseuse had it timed perfectly to half an hour — 35 minutes outside!
The girl on reception was really nice and said I could have 25% off next time with a different masseuse, so I left on good terms.
Frankly, I’m not sure if I’ll return.
Only a couple of minutes after I left did I realise the conflict between them taking my credit card details on the phone, and taking cash from me in person. I had to go back to ask them to explain this, and only THEN did they explain that credit card details are taken in case you don’t turn up, then these are shredded once you pay them cash. But they kinda need to explain that, right?
I told them that they have a problem with handling first-​time customers — zero communication. So much for winding down from the stresses of work on a Thursday evening!
Also, I found the experience quite painful. I’m not massively muscular and I feel that being completely new to this, the masseuse should have gone easier on me. But she wasn’t interested in me as an individual, even on a basic level. I was just treated like some bloke who did this all the time. And I thought every customer was different. I tried to communicate with her, by telling her «this is the equivalent of me jumping off a cliff». Still, that had little effect.

My haven of peace and quiet. Who can resist getting their nails done watching an old 1950’s film whilst sipping on a freshly brewed coffee.
The therapists are always so attentive to what they are doing but also to the client. The calm and beautiful surroundings are a welcome escape from the hectic city centre. If you need an escape for an hour, this is the place to get your nails done.
Also, very professional waxing available but less enjoyable of course!

RE Eve at the Grooming Rooms: Absolutely love this place. I’ve been here a few times now and it is by far the best salon I’ve been waxed in. The place itself is gorgeous but the staff are professional and friendly. Can’t imagine myslef ever going anywhere else for waxing.

First the pros on The Grooming Rooms. As previous reviewers have highlighted, the establishment is beautifully and lavishly laid out, from the neat waiting rooms, where you can get a coffee to the personal cutting booths that include a cool small LCD that shows sky sports/​news.
However that is where the benefits come to an end. I went there for the Haircut and Finish, which on its website says «Precision cutting and styling at its finest from our top barbers. This service includes a consultation, shampoo and conditioner».
So far, so good, you might say. On this occasion i was looking to get a nice style on my hair as over the last 2 years its been at the ravages of some extreme thinning and receding. Not all bad, just down from the crown, a small pattern of thinning, you could say and i sort of style my hair not in a neat fashion, so i was looking forward to the consultation and to see what type of style would suit my hair.
I was generously greeted by my nice barber and showed to my booth. When she asked me what i wanted, i explained the type of cut I’d like, but pointed out where i was thinning and asked what she thought would be a suitable style that could blend in with the rest of my full hair, i then got an answer in broken English to the words of «there’s nothing i can do about that» from whence i was shoved straight into the sink, baptism style for my hair to be washed. I then realised after that, that this haircut was not going according to plan as after the washing and cutting i intrepidly opened my eyes to the scary sight of not only Sky Sports Jim White grinning back at me through the LCD telly but looking in the mirror i saw a haircut that i did not like, so much so that very little was taken off the sides and on top, was my hair even cut fully in the first place?
My hair was styled «loosely» might i add and was then told to pay downstairs. The process, lasted around 15 minutes. I was going to give 1 star but The Grooming Rooms use the American Crew hair styling products which are quite good and i use myself and so hence the 2 stars. But overall was very disappointed with the haircut but in particular the barbers attitude towards me, when i was looking for advice (or consultation as mentioned on the website) on how to style my hair, where i just got a grunt and pathetic excuse. For € 35 its a joke, i wouldn’t mind paying that, if i got a good cut plus helpful hints and tips on style, but no, this was just a rush process to throw me out and get the next punter in. Never again
(PS If anyone could recommend a barbers that in particular is knowledgeable to styling those of us that have thinning hair i would greatley appreciate it. Thanks :)

Never felt more screwed than after my visit to The Grooming Rooms. Although you receive a warm welcome and a nice Nespresso coffee is served in the waiting room, the actual service of the barber is not worth the money.
I got in for a wet hair cut and a trim of my beard. After I had to explain several times to the girl that I just wanted her to trim my hair, she started to cut it with a different length than I asked for. Then she put a towel over my eyes and started to trim my beard (which she didn’t finish well). And in the end she pushed my head towards the sink, I had to lean over it so she could wash my hair. Shampoo in my eyes and the feeling like I was drowning included. All for only 60 euro.
Nope! You won’t see me here again.

€ 35. Asked for a tidy up, but I’m not sure if she even cut a hair. Looks exactly the same. I can’t understand how this place gets away with it.

Went today, staff are very friendly, loyalty card every 6^th cut free, excellent service and love my new haircut. Stylist also gave me advice as she cut, very useful. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Lovely rooms, professional staff and a great haircut. Pricey (and hard to justify) but the surrounds make for a real treat.

Solid high-​end barber option in the city center that caters exclusively to the gents of Dublin. A one-​stop shop for all your grooming needs — haircut, massage, facials, etc. Personal lcd tvs enable you to watch sports or news while they cut your hair. I haven’t gotten any of the treatments other than a haircut, but the list looks extensive! However, I have been pleased with my haircuts — and at 35 euro I should be:)
This would have been 4 stars, but when they wash your hair, they make you stick your head face front into the sink — a bit odd and uncomfortable.
