The Morrison, a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

We visited The Morrison Hotel on April 17^th.
My partner ordered Gentleman’s tea and I ordered Afternoon tea.
Service was great. I wasn’t too fond of the contents of Afternoon tea but I would for sure return for the Gentleman’s tea. (I would probably sub the Beer for prosecco though)

A great take on the traditional version. Very tasty and I would recommend to mates.
However, the scone ham&cheese. Drop it. Replace it with an lamb burger.

Famous gentleman’s tea; a few weeks ago walking past the hotel we noticed the board advertising gentleman’s tea and we thought it was a brilliant idea! Afternoon tea in Dublin is the rage these days so we were impressed with the gentleman’s version. It was what we expected and more, the burger was cooked well, the sweet stuff especially the chocolate made teacup is COOL. I wasn’t mad on the scone as it was the first time trying a scone with ham in it.
Afternoon tea came with a free alcoholic drink and coffee. Price for two = € 50.

Making a reservation was close to impossible. I rang on three different occasions. After more than a week, I finally managed to get through to a member of staff who assisted me.
The staff were nice, but not nice enough to make me want to go back. Same thing goes for the food (I had ordered afternoon tea).

LOVED staying here. Location is fantastic and convenient to Temple Bar, morning breakfast (included for Hhonors Diamond members) is great and has a wide range of available options. Wifi is fast, hotel staff are very helpful, and the fitness center is well-​appointed, clean and spacious.
We couldn’t have asked for more during our stay in Dublin. We will absolutely be back.

Previously been here for the classic afternoon tea which I enjoyed a lot. This time round we tried their new offer: Gentleman’s afternoon tea. It looked amazing on paper, and I barely ate all day to save my hunger for the feast that was about to come.
When we arrived (it was a special occasion as they had put the big screen out to watch the 6 nations) we were being sat at a corner table, right in front of a huge statue, which blocked most of our view. Not much rugby watching to be done, so we focussed on the food. We ordered, and the afternoon tea came out literally 1 minute later. Definitely NOT MADE fresh so!
Here’s what we had:
–beef slider (really small and dry), steak ‘sandwich’ (same little bun as the slider, only with a dry piece of steak), sausage with pickles (this was okay), cheese/​bacon scone (so dry, that one bite I had to chew forever to be able to swallow– did not finish) and fries (they were lukewarm — I dare say almost cold)
–the desserts were slightly better, a little chocolate mousse pot and salted caramel pot
Come on Morrison! You can do way better than this! I understand it was a busy day with many visitors for the rugby. But we were meant to be there for 2+ hours for the match, so no need to rush. I rather had waited 30 minutes and get some fresh food rather than this sad excuse of dry and cold food. It was 25 € (including a pint), but no way in the world that this afternoon tea was worth 20 quid. *insert sad face*

We had afternoon tea again, this time with a good gap since last Christmas.
It was busier than the last time, most tables with their cake tiers and some bubbly. When we entered, we had to wait and wait and wait to get seated. There were 2 servers that looked over but no one reacted. Maybe it wasn’t their area and they belonged to the bar on the other side. Still, not great.
I eventually walked up to the till where my reservation was checked and we got seated. The cake tier arrived straight away, followed by Prosecco and then a long time… nothing. My friend is visibly pregnant so clearly she wasn’t gonna drink the Prosecco but she wasn’t offered anything else and there was no water or tea anywhere. So we waited, again, for someone’s attention and finally ordered water and tea.
The service didn’t improve from there and we were constantly sitting with empty glasses and cups. This was much better the last time I was here.
Now the food: oh dear! We were served the following:
mini egg sandwiches
mini coronation chicken sandwiches
smoked salmon on white mini-​bagel
2 small raisin scones with jam and cream and lots of really sweet dessert types.
The sandwiches… meh. Bagel, the same. The scones were dry but the cream helped a bit. Absolutely nothing to write home about. The Art of Coffee make better scones and their main job is great coffee.
The top tier had:
2 macarons (flavour unknown)
mini crème brulee (very nice and light)
chocolate mousse in a chocolate cup (was ok)
mini lemon tarts (I couldn’t taste the lemon at all)
mini caramel muffin and something we were told was panna cotta but it had the texture of jelly beans, really rubbery and tasteless also.
I couldn’t eat the muffin (way too sweet) or the macaron (not fresh) so overall, not as good as we hoped. At 25Euro per person definitely overpriced for what we got.
So yes, I think I count my losses and give up on afternoon tea in here. Just in here though, not altogether.

Morrison Grill is fab. Came here for dinner recently and cannot stop thinking about the gorgeous food!
One of the best burgers I’ve ever had and their mojitos are second to none.
It is a little bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for!

This was a nice hotel on the north side of Dublin. The south side is the more active area but it’s literally just a 5 min walk over a bridge to the south side so it was actually kind of nice being in the quieter area and only having a small walk to all the pubs and attractions. the rooms were pretty small so make sure your comfortable with your roommate but i would stay here again despite the room size.

Stylish hotel, centrally located… This place use to be the place to be seen though now competes which so many other trendy places that have come alive in Dublin.
The bar is nice in here, spacious and inviting… Some great comfortable seating and if you sit by the window, it’s the perfect spot to sip a cocktail and watch the world to by outside.
Staff are all well turned out, polite and professional. Only been to a function here plus used the bar, have not stayed in the hotel however I had a friend stay and she loved it, I’ve also given it as an option to people I know coming into town needing a central location.

Great location, great service, great food. Buzzing bar, nicely decorated.
On the river, across from Temple Bar, and most of what you might want to see in Dublin. Walked around easily. Took taxi to areas a bit further out (Rathmine, etc).
Room was comfortable. I was able to get early check in. The beds were split, I had asked for a bigger bed — they quickly reconfigured to King size at a time that was convenient for me. Front desk staff was very friendly.
Morrison Grill has good food, Irish beef was good (not the best, and a tad overcooked for my liking, but overall tasty and convenient if you don’t want to leave the hotel for every meal).
The only minor inconvenience was parking. There is a garage very close by, but on weekends the garage opens at 9 AM so if you have an early flight the next day, you have to park on the street or park in a garage that is a bit further away (and still doesn’t open before 8 AM weekends) and isn’t validated. Still, the night I used the garage was only 24 euro with hotel validation, and street parking is free after 6 PM. When I went to move my car for the night, the bell hop told me where I might find a spot right behind the hotel, and I found one in less than 5 minutes, on a Saturday before Xmas next to a major shopping center… so not bad at all.
I give 4 out of 5 just for the parking situation and the food being just on par and not out of this world. I would stay here again.

Great location! Walking distance to everything! It was really convenient being so close to Temple Bar– right across the bridge.
Walking in, we were greeted by a super friendly, extra cheery staff. I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful décor. Everything was clean and perfectly put in its place. Since it is a Doubletree, you are greeted with their warm soft gooey chewy signature cookies. The room was spacious and just as beautiful. The pink mood lighting is a nice touch as well.
We had some laundry done while we were there. It was a bit pricey, but they delivered it back to our room right on time.
My only complaint is that I have silver Hilton Honors status. We were put on the 2^nd floor and not on the Hilton Honors 4^th floor. When I inquired about this at check in, I was told it was an upgrade. I’ve never had a Hilton property deny me the Honors floor before. Oh well.
Stop at the hotel bar for a delicious Irish coffee! The bartenders are very kind!

One of the most stylish hotels I have ever been to, love everything about it!: design, layout and certainly the food! Enjoyed our work Arabic style summer party :) 3 course meal following ice cream was absolutely delicious!
Absolutely perfect place for a bit of lunch or drink, also it’s a perfect place for a party!
Highly recommend!

Soooo, I read about The Morrison’s ‘Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea’ online one day and had two thoughts… 1. The name is slightly sexist and 2. It sounds delicious! So I got over myself and decided I’d give it a go!
The Morrison itself is really nice, the eating area is through the main door to the right so you have all the energy of the hotel while still being separate enough to enjoy your food in peace.
I noticed that the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea wasn’t on the menu so I asked our waiter who explained that it’s relatively new so will be added to the new menu when that’s created. I also highlighted my reservations about the name and the waiter said this was feedback he had also received from other women who felt that this version of afternoon tea was more up their street than the traditional version… my thoughts exactly!
So, what do you get you ask? Ok, here goes… A mini steak sandwich with coleslaw, mini burger with tomato relish, paprika chips, sausage on a stick with pickles and jalapeños, a savoury bacon, cheese and onion scone, a salted caramel and biscuit dessert, whiskey chocolate mousse in an edible chocolate cup and a pint of IPA. Phew! And the price? A steal at € 23!
Everything was presented beautifully on a wooden board and I couldn’t really fault it, either in terms of presentation or value for money. I wouldn’t say it was the best burger or steak sandwich I’ve ever had but the sausage and desserts were particular highlights. And anyway, even with traditional Afternoon Tea there’s always going to be elements you prefer over others isn’t there? Would I recommend it? Yes!
One criticism I have, however, is the fact that servers were at out table every few minutes. They were really friendly and the service was really efficient but one in particular kept coming back asking if we were ready for a «real drink» a number of times, even after we told him we were happy with the drinks we had. This was offputting, I have to be honest.

Perfect location for getting to temple bar. Simply cross the bridge and you are there. Nice room and comfortable. Warm cookies at check in was a plus.

Came here for afternoon…
Bottom tier — shrimp on brown bread, (yum)
followed by brie on brown, (yum)
followed y egg on white bread,(yum)
followed by chicken on white bread,(bit of salad would have been nice on it)
middle tier — mini bagel and salmon, (missing cream cheese :-(or similar)
followed by fluffy fresh scones with jam and cream (not enough jam and cream though, but scones fab just out of the oven).
top tier… mini cupcakes (fab)
macaroons (very luscious and rich, also yum)
then mini desserts in mini jars such as choc mousse and crème brûlée…

The setting in the hotel in calming and intimate and spacious and elegant .
only fault i have is we requested our prosseco came FIRST, then we have our food and coffee when we were done, but they still brought it out with the prosseco :-(, maybe we werent clear enough, but still, yes i would recommend it

Very good hotel. The rooms are perfect in term of size, cleanness and modernness. Internet is fast. Location is close to everything.

This went above my expectations! We went in with a voucher and I wasn’t expecting much. Afterall, Its a restaurant in a hilton hotel. Cant be that great right? no I was wrong. The restaurant was hip enough but it felt like the whole lounge area (which was next to the dining area) had an airport feel to it. I know they boast that it was redone by John Rocha but I don’t think Mr. Rocha should be bragging about this. Anyhow onto the food.
To start I ordered the oxtail tortellini which was divine… except the pasta was toot hink and not too appetizing. a poor attempt at homemade pasta but still at least they tried!
For the main I got the filet medium rare. I am VERY particular on how I like my steaks cooked. It was PERFECT. The middle was perfectly uncooked and the steak had a nice sear to it. I asked for all 3 sauces on the side which the chef obliged and gave me all 3. The peppercorn was the best.
The red wine we ordered was great and reasonably priced.
For dessert I ordered the pannacotta. The panacotta was mediocre but the cookie on the side and strawberry sorbet is HEAVENLY. i didn’t want the pannacotta but more sorbet and cookie!
Service was just ok. Nothing to commend or critique. Not very friendly but efficient. But at least they are efficient… unlike most airports
Overall, if there was another voucher I’d go back!

Très chouette hotel au coeur de Dublin. Emplacement idéal, service au top et style ultra contemporain et surtout des chambres ultra calme.

So they’ve done up the Morrison.
No longer dark and sleek, it’s now all creams and purples and cool looking art and funky lighting.
Personally speaking — get ready this is controversial — I think I preferred it before. Now I’d like to preface this review by saying that I’m talking about the eating /​drinking /​lounge area only — I’ve never yet had the pleasure of staying here. But I dunno — I know it was really dark and a tad moody, but I liked this. I feel like it’s recent makeover, though fabulous, don’t get me wrong, but it feels a little — generic — to me. I know they’re now part of Doubletree which maybe accounts for this.
Anyway it’s still a lovely place to sit and have a drink. We sat at the bar and drank our way through a mojito or three. They were fairly well made (I think perhaps the first bar tender was still learning as she forgot to mix it! But that didn’t happen again so all good, we all have to learn somewhere!)
Another really minor thing irked me in that our glasses were always left there lingering in their emptiness whilst we drank the next one. I don’t want to see how many of these delicious concoctions I’ve gone through, thanks, especially if I’m sitting at the bar and they are very easily cleared. They cost a tenner each which I don’t think is too bad for hotel prices. I guess if the service was just a little better, it would make all the difference.

The Morrison wirkt ein bisschen wie ein in die Jahre gekommenes Luxushotel. Vielleicht liegt es aber auch nur an den recht dunklen Farben des Mobiliars, denn edel ist es auf jeden Fall. Dunkle Teakholz und Ledermöbel bestimmen die Einrichtung. Schicke Skulpturen und geschmackvolle Blumenarrangements lockern das Ganze auf.
Schöné Zimmer die leider einen Fehler haben. man kann die Fenster nicht öffnen, zumindest in den Zimmern die wir bewohnt haben.
Die Klimaanlage sorgt zwar für Kühlung (bei Außentemperaturen um 16 Grad nicht zwingend nötig :-)) Sommer in Irland;-))), aber es geht halt nichts über frische Luft im Zimmer.
Das Badezimmer ist schön geräumig, läßt aber einen Vergrößerungsspiegel vermissen (anspruchsvolle Touristen!).
Das Frühstücksbuffet ist Full Irish d. h. man kann gebratene Blut– und Leberwurst unter dem Decknamen White and Black Pudding haben zusammen mit Bratkartoffeln und Rührei
oder gebratene Tomaten, Schinken, Champignons und Würstchen.
Geht aber auch ohne so viele Kalorien mit Müsli, frischem Obstsalat, Joghurt und Saft.
Außerdem leckeren Toast und Marmelade, hmmmm.
Der Service ist sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Fazit, für mich ein Hotel, das ich jedem mit gutem Gewissen empfehlen kann, außerdem ist Dublin eine Stadt die man uuuuuuuunbedingt gesehen haben sollte :-))

Wir hatten ein wirklich sehr schönes Doppelzimmer mit Blick auf die Liffey. Das Zimmer war sehr schön eingerichtet und lies keine Wünsche offen. Besonders positiv aufgefallen ist die Größe des Zimmersafes, hier haben auch iPads und kleine Notebooks platz.
Ich hatte eigentlich nur Kontakt zu dem Personal an der Rezeption und an einem Abend mit dem Barpersonal. Alle waren stets sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Außerdem gibt es die Möglichkeit Boardingpässe für den Rückflug von der Rezeption ausdrucken zu lassen. In unserem Fall (Germanwings) stellte es sich als ein wenig kompliziert dar nur mit einem iPhone und iPad bewaffnet die Boardingpässe in die E-​Mail zu bekommen. Hier sollte man vor der Reise Prüfen ob die mitgenommene Hardware und Software das gewünschte leisten kann.
Das Hotel liegt direkt an der Liffey und nur ca. 5 Geminuten von Temple Bar und der O’Connel Strett entfernt. Sehr viele Seehenswürdigkeiten und Lokale sind vom Hotel aus sehr bequem zu Fuß zu erreichen, ebenso wie diverse Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Alles in einem Radius von ca. 10 min Fußmarsch. Wenn man das Kilmainham Gaol oder das Guinness Starehous besichtigen möchte empfehle ich entgegen dem Hotelpersonal einen normalen Linienbus zu nehmen. Das System ist ein wenig abenteuerlich für deutsche Reisende aber auch die Busfahrer sind sehr hilfsbereit. Tipp hierzu: immer genug Kleingeld haben!
