History

Established in 1969.

Thomas Gear was born in Cavan Town, Ireland. He travelled to London, Antwerp, Amsterdam and the Far East to learn from the World’s experts, the Art of Diamond and Jewellery Design and Manufacture. It all started over 40 years ago, after leaving school Tom started as an apprentice with a manufacturing jewellers named J and Z Blackman in Anne street, Dublin 2. After finishing his apprenticeship he travelled to London’s famous Hatton Garden to hone his skills as a goldsmith. He then came home and put up a workbench in the bedroom of his parents house where he made jewellery for other manufactures in Dublin.

Some time later he opened the door to put a show case in the hall and started dealing with the public. He soon built up a large customer base. He then opened various shops starting ins Balfe Street, Aungier street and finally in the Ilac Centre.
