History

Established in 1996.

Whetstone was originally opened by Jimmy who had a passion for art, litriture and hair, hence the name «Whetstone» which comes from Shakespearean times meaning a sharpening stone, Joy Hawkridge took over the salon in 2006 after managing it for 4 yrs, In that time Joy brought the Aveda concept to Ireland and was the first one to use the aveda Full Spectrum Colour system which is the only 96% Naturally derived hair colour product on the market to date. As an artist, musician, hair stylist and make up artist, Joy has a very creative eye and has trained staff to a very high standard, she prides herself in giving the best possible service to each client.

Following her lifelong hobby on from childhood in south africa, joy left home at 17 and went on to spend much of the her time honing her skills in hairdressing whilst working and travelling between New York, London and much of Europe.

Joy trained with the likes of Vidal Sasoon, Aveda and L’Oreal, she took part in every hair show, seminar and pratical workshop she could find until finally settling in Dublin to start her own career in Whetstone in 1999. After managing the salon successfully for 4 yrs Joy had the opportunity to buy Whetstone and with it came a lot of new responsilbility and business challenges.

Joy joined up with the aveda acadamy in London and attended many training courses in business management and growing business etc she also qualified as one of Avedas In Salon Training Educators in cut and colour. Over the last 10yrs Whetstone has grown as a business, Joy continues to train and educate staff in all the lastest trends & uses her creative side though fashion shoots
