Was very impressed with this place. Arrived on mothering Sunday with no reservation. We just chanced our arm and expected to be laughed at arriving on a day like that with no booking. The man who greeted us so I can only imagine was a manager or similar made every effort to accommodate us. A table wasn’t ready straight away but insisted we relax at the bar and he would try and get a table for us and that he did with bells on top. Pork chops were incredible with an even better apple cider sauce. Id definitely return if I’m knocking about the area. Restaurant itself is quite average. Menu is carvery /bar food and the pub part is cosy typical aul fella quiet pub with a match on.

A great spot for a quiet drink or a bit of food. Can get pretty busy at the weekend with a great atmosphere for sporting events. Free wifi is a big plus! Staff are always friendly and really professional– you’re always guaranteed a smile. All in all a great place for a session

I’m a Fan of the Brian Boru for a number of reasons… the Hospitality is well after the Irish Tradition that all other countries should aspire to. The History of the place and it’s current 3rd Generation owner Michael Hedigan is wonderful to explore from The High King Brian Boru encamping on the spot just before the battle of Clontarf in 1014 to it’s mention in James Joyce’s Ulysses to its being the last on site Whiskey Blender in Dublin back in around 1973. It’s a special treat If you have the opportunity to meet the owner, Michael, and Louise and her staff do a wonderful job of making you feel like this is YOUR local. The food is well prepared, the beverages are refreshing and occasional evening trad music sessions also warm the soul of any guest on a rainy evening.

A proper local irish pub. The décor is very authentic old man, old school pub. The carvery and bar food are lovely and you get huge portions! The staff are professional and chatty. The crowd is very mixed from old men to couples to young families.

This is an unassuming local pub on the Phibsboro/Glasnevin border. What I like about this pub is that it just feels like a traditional Dublin pub. There’s no loud music and is the perfect pub for quiet chats and pints on a Saturday night. Friendly staff. Nice pints. Mixed friendly clientele. Most importantly when you ask for a packet of crisps they give you a packet of King!

For all the 4 and 5 star reviews I really expected more of this place. We visited midweek, so not too busy. The food was really average. I had a burger(which was lovely) & my fiancé had the surf & turf which included steak & prawns. The steak was quite fatty & unimpressive. The prawns were either frozen, overcooked or a few days old & had a horrible texture & fishy taste. The chips were dry & flavourless & no amount of salt & vinegar or mayo or ketchup could save them. Dessert was ok, we had apple crumble between us. Crust was a little soft which I didn’t like. The reason I’m giving 3 stars despite the food, is that the atmosphere and staff were lovely. & in general the food was reasonably priced.

Great food, great fun in this local Dublin favorite! One of the top 10 whiskey snugs in all of Ireland. With fresh salads, pasta and traditional pub food. And free wi-fi! Great atmosphere, live music on Wednesdays — lots of fun!

Hedigan’s is one of the few proper Dublin pub’s still trying while retaining it’s essence. The staff are so genuine and really enjoy there job and helping their customer enjoy their pint, food and Brian Boru experience. One side of the pub is old school with no tv or changes to it’s styling, great for a quite relaxing pint. The rest of the pub is a nice blend of the usual awnings and taste. There’s alcoves snugs and areas to cater for you mood and company no matter what and usually something interesting on upstairs at the weekend from comedy to Jazz. Food is even better than the pint and that’s saying something! Enjoy!

After the Ireland v Wales game I walked back up to Hedigan’s for a few pints and some grub with some friends. The place was packed with rugby fans, which was great for atmosphere but not for seats. However we got lucky and found seats in the snug under a TV so we could enjoy the Calcutta cup, good day so far! Everything was going down perfectly! The pint especially! Then I got a few menus, the ‘rugby match-day menu’ it’s called, and have had before. It consisted of a thai chicken curry, bangers and mash(no doubt I’ve forgotten something). The service was great also, always is. But the portions for the price!!! Are you mad Brian!!! The burgers with chips was € 13 for 5(no joke) chips, although they were thick and very enjoyable, they were no representation for the price, especially along side the smallest burger I have ever seen! Imagine a single burger slider in a big bready bun, don’t you know we’re all unemployed and losing our homes and teeth and all that crap Hedigan? Sort it out! I myself had the Thai curry, I often have this and it’s never been a let down, but never has the chicken breast been this small, rough, and served with so much sauce and so little rice, again for € 13. I do hope this new minimalistic and expensive for what you get menu does not creep into the pubs offerings during the week. But for a little note, if you do find yourself in front of one of these ‘rugby day matches’ in Hedigans, wait until halftime, put the menu down, and stroll across the road to Fortes chipper instead, he’s Italian, so you know its good, eat you € 8 chips and burger on the wall by the canal, then go back into the pub and enjoy the pints, atmosphere and good service again.

Where else but in the capital of Ireland would you have so many pubs known by two names ie the family name(Hedigan’s) and the fancy name(Brian Boru). This place has long been a favourite of students and young professionals in the Phibsborough area — as well as locals who’ve been a bit longer in the tooth. It’s fair to say that rather than searching for some random historical connection it is believed that Brian Boru struck camp in the area prior to marching his troops to victory(and his own death) down the road in Clontarf. The pub is large and expansive as is its beer garden. If you want a bit of local colour then I’d recommend dropping in for Sunday lunch.

Hedigan’s — also known as The Brian Boru — is an absolute treasure of a pub. I’ve been going there for years now and I’ve never had a bad pint/night/experience. Quite the opposite in fact — it’s practically perfect in every way possible. There are about three different sections to sit in and recently they upgraded the beer garden so that it now has tables, benches and heaters. Sitting out there sipping pints on a sunny evening is absolute bliss. Hedigan’s staff go above and beyond the call of duty to be helpful. It’s the kind of place where you order a round of drinks and the barman will tell you to take a seat and he’ll bring them over to you. I was in there a few months ago and they even charged my phone for me behind the bar — now that’s service! Hedigan’s do food all day as well and while I haven’t eaten there, I hear most things on the menu are pretty tasty. They also have comedy, trad and Irish nights and have recently started running a market on certain Sundays every month. So the verdict? Hedigan’s is everything you could possibly want from your local pub — and more!

This place is adorable! It is very cozy and it was very full on a Friday night, but not so full that you would feel closed in or not find a seat. This place is where the locals go and it’s very relaxed. On Tuesday nights there is a comedy show and I think they even have a night with traditonal music… but I’ll get back to you on that!
