Danu

The Danu restaurant within the Brehon hotel has a mouthwatering menu and the best part is, it’s actually not too expensive when you consider what you are getting.
The dishes are tastefully put together.
When I was there, they had just launched a new menu on Saturday. It’s different to the website. I had some sort of a wild hare starter which was odd. It was a cold dish, which threw me a little. I also have no idea what the shavings were but the whole thing worked nicely.
The venison main course was cooked almost rare to perfection. It was tastefully presented as 3 small cuttings with small piles of mashed potato and decorations as well as a side of boiled potato, swede and broccoli.
It was absolutely delicious as was the half bottle of Portuguese wine.
I can also recommend the poached pear in red wine as a desert. It’s light enough not to put you over the edge of distension.

We spent a week in Ireland, and this is, by far, the best restaurant we visited. The décor was superb, and the wait staff performed exquisitely. We were lucky to get a table on Friday night and were told it is impossible to get a table Saturday night without an advance reservation.
There was a fixed price option for a two or three course dinner. The portions were quite large, and everything was perfect. The server, Mags, was attentive to every detail, from dropping our napkin in our lap to ensuring that we always had the correct silverware for each of our dishes. I ordered the pan seared cod and my bride ordered the vegetarian dish. I also had the vegetable soup, which was pureed into a creamy delight. and poured at the table. Both entrees were accompanied with a potatoes and mashed sweet turnip.
For dessert, we had the chocolate brownie and hazlenut ice cream. Mags knew we were on our honeymoon, so the plate had «Happy Honeymoon» inscribed in caramel. They also brought us a couple of glasses of complimentary champagne.
The entire dinner, including drinks, was 75 Euros. Based on what we had paid at other restaurants on the trip, it was a bargain.
