Cliffs of Moher

What an experience! I booked a day trip from Dublin to The Cliffs of Moher while on vacation and what an amazing sight. The weather was horrible, but I got a break to see the breathtaking views.
The weather was rainy with the rain blowing straight across. Then the fog swallowed the whole place up. I would love to see this place on a clear day. I am glad to see a magnificent place such as this.
I hope to come back one day when the weather is nice.

Impressionnant ! En photo, on né rend pas forcément compte de l’immensité de ces falaises et de la sensation éprouvée au bord de celles-​ci et cela vaut vraiment le détour ! Plus hautes que la tour Montparnasse, il y a de quoi avoir quelques frissons quand on se trouve à quelques mètres du bord (je né prendrais pas le risqué de dire centimètres sinon vous allez dire que j’incite à prendre des risques !).
En arrivant, déjà c’est assez étonnant car on arrive en altitude sur un gigantesque plateau vierge de tout arbre… uniquement du gazon tout plat avec au beau milieu, un parking qui se remplit bien vite en milieu de matinée… Comptez 6 € par tête pour l’emplacement et la visite du site.
Prenez bien le temps d’aller au nord et au sud car les points de vue sont différents et cela permet de prendre des photos avec différents éclairages; au passage, la lumière du soir semble plus adaptée pour avoir les falaises ensoleillées.
L’intérieur du site, à savoir le bâtiment avec quelques expos, les boutiques, etc… n’a pas grand intérêt mais bon, si vous voulez des cartes postales ça peut dépanner.
Pour les plus curieux, il existe un bateau qui permet de passer au pied des falaises que l’on peut prendre à Doolin, également faisable en combo avec les îles d’Aran.

Spectacular and breathtaking. Absolutely gigantic drop-​offs with safety railings thankfully. Winds here can be staggering. I saw a large tourist coach have its side windows blasted out from the inside when someone opened the main entry door. So be careful.
In terms of natural beauty, I would rank this as #2 behind Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. That’s mostly because you can explore Giant’s Causeway at your leisure and really experience it. Any type of exploring the Cliffs of Moher besides gaping in awe behind safety railing would result in certain death. Many hilarious safety signs in various languages make this abundantly clear.

Amazing experience. A must see for anyone visiting Ireland. It was a stunning overcast/​sunny day which made for summer stunning vistas. Went in March, which is away from the usual summer crowds and I’d recommend people go visit at that time as it didn’t take away from the experience.
Bring serious footwear as a good chunk of the path around the cliffs was muddy, at least this time of year (but I can’t really imagine it being much different any other time of year as it’s Ireland after all). If you wear your nice kicks here, you’ll ruin them.

I don’t know how I could put less than 5 stars on one of earth’s natural wonders. The cliffs and the surrounding areas are just pure Ireland (to me).

The single most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. The views from both sides are amazing. It can be very scary because there are no true fenced off areas and the wind off the water is extremely strong. There have been many deaths on the cliffs, some accidental and some suicide. They have a memorial for all the lives that have been lost. They have a nice gift shop as well. The walks down the cliff can be strenuous and I wouldn’t suggest it for kids or elderly. I will forever remember my visit to this amazing natural wonder!

In Ireland, things might seem a bit repetitive after a while, but there are certain landscapes in Ireland, or frankly the world, that cannot be undersold for their beauty. This is one of them.
First, note that you will do a bit of walking. Nothing insurmountable, but you will want to experience the view from both sides of the cliff, which means not only walking from the parking area upward, but across. Second, there are an ungodly amount of bugs of some sort that were downright annoying whether you’re trying to focus in for a photo, or just enjoy the view at certain points in your ascent.
As you make your way up, you may encounter one or two buskers on the steps. You’ll notice later that their CDs are available for sale in the gift shop (at least in some cases). Continue onward & let the music & hopefully a nice breeze propel you forward.
Chances are you’ve seen these cliffs before. Children of the 1980s, or younger people with kind parents may have watched The Princess Bride. And of course, Harry Potter has been here in pursuit of the Half-​Blood Prince.
You will not mind & I suggest, taking your time here. When done, make your way down to the Visitor’s Center. Artfully built into the cliffs, so it does not interfere with the landscape, you will learn about the geology & history of the area, enjoy a film & have the chance to eat & do a bit of shopping.

This place is amazing. I can understand why Harry Potter and other movies used this location in their films. It’s a beautiful place. Magical. Draws you in and makes you want to venture out.
I really enjoyed going off the beaten path and walking toward Doolin… was great fun.
Kudu’s to the staff, they were so helpful and friendly, we really appreciated their kindness and assistance.
This was an incredible experience and we will definitely be back.

The reviews for this fabulousness are outstanding so I am not writing this seriously. Go early. There are going to be a shit ton of people there trying to get the same picture everyone else has of what amounts to a moss-​covered plateau overlooking the sea.
Rocks, Rocks, Rocks, Rocks, Rocks. All I remember from Ireland are sheep and rocks on the road, in the sky, in the food. Even taking into account the castles, fences and headstones, these were by far the prettiest rocks I saw. Note that even in the summer, there was enough wind here to kick around a small child. Wear a sweater because these are by the ocean. You do not want frostbite on your face, it ain’t cute.
If you use the trails to walk on or near the cliffs wear water-​proof cleets or it was nice knowing you. The gift shop people here weren’t the nicest but if I lived in 48 degree weather in August, I’d be pissed too. I would probably only go back if I was in the area and needed free wifi.

Ja, die Cliffs sind überlaufen in der Saison, ja, der Eintritt ist happig, ja die anderen gehen einem evt. ganz schön auf den Keks, ja, ja, ja…
Aber den einzigen Fehler welchen wir gemacht haben war, dass wir zu spät auf dem viel zu kleinen Parklplatz angekommen sind.
Strategisch ist es sicher sehr gut, wenn man dort bereits um 09.30 Uhr aufschlägt. Wanderer und Fahrradfahrer zahlen übrigens keinen Eintritt, Kinder unter 16 auch nicht. Die Massen versammeln sich um das Parkzentrum, den O’Brian Tower (welcher extra kostet…) und ungefähr geschätzte 800m nach Süd und Nord. Wer den Weg vom Zentrum bis nach Doolin oder nach Hogs Head läuft sieht vielleicht noch 10% der Massen. Aber auch da sind die abenteuerlichsten Figuren unterwegs. Schon das Beobachten des Verhaltens anderer Besucher ist seinen Eintritt wert.
Das Panaroma, welches sich bei gutem Wetter geboten hat, war einfach umwerfend. Das Spiel von Wolken und Sonne auf dem Wasser und den Felsen, die Brandungszone, welche sich jedes Mal anders dargestellt hat, Das Geschrei der Möwen (gibt es da wirklich Papageientaucher?), der durchaus manchmal heftige Wind und der permanente Blick in die Tiefe macht den Besuch zu einem phantastischen Erlebnis. Sollten wir wieder in die Gegend kommen, werden wir den Cliffwalk noch einmal machen, dann wohl aber wirklich von Liscannor im Süden bis Doolin im Norden, was eine Strecke von ca. 20 Km ohne großen Höhenunterschied bedeuten würde.
Unsere Empfehlung: Noch Norden den Weg fortsetzen und dann auf dem Wiesenstück auf das begraßte Cliffstück setzen. Von dort aus hat man einen Blick über das gesamt Cliff nach Süden von ungefähr 80m unterhalb der Cliffkante nach oben.

I visited the solitary castle on the Cliffs of Moher a coupla years ago. I miss it dearly… the open, wide horizon, the impossibly tall and straight cliffs (Aillte an Mhothair) looking severe but weary with faces scratched by time, wind and salt.
The ‘payoff’ is immense and the effort is little: you don’t have to walk a lot or hike a steep incline and the amazing bird’s-eye lookout is right there. There is also a visitor «centre» with lots of gourmet and simple snacks, from mini-​quiches, shepherd’s pies, to candy bars. The castle itself is also interesting and old but the cliffs are what literally drew me in.

You won’t be alone.
The view is nice but the number of tourists spoils it all.

Husband and I rode the paddy wagon tour here, so it saved us the trouble of dealing with driving, and it was very enjoyable too!
Anyway, when you come here, it’s quite windy so if you’ve got long hair you’ll want to tie it or wear a secured hat or something. I spent some good time that night trying to comb through my hair… it can also be chilly so do wear enough clothing to stay warm. We were there June 28, 2015, middle of Ireland’s summer I think, and I was doing alright wearing a tank, long sleeve button up, leggings, scarf and a rain coat which helped to keep the wind out. I did not tie my hair up… =[
There’s quite a bit of a walking path that goes along all the cliffs I believe, there’s maybe like 4 – 6 separate ones, but maybe 3 big ones? It’s extremely windy so be VERY CAREFUL when walking along the edge. Also, because it’s very windy, sometimes it picks up dust so be careful of that too.
I think what makes them so amazing is that they’re so high up, and the scene of the ocean waves crashing against them is just really neat. I’m not sure how much admission is because our tour was with paddy wagon (40 €, but also had some other stops along the way, and no need to worry about driving or parking!).
Sadly, it’s not one of the worlds 7 wonders, but still absolutely beautiful and you should definitely visit if you’re in the area!

There’s really not much to say here. The beauty of these unique cliffs speaks for itself. Don’t miss these if you are in the area and make it a destination if you’re not.

Les mots me manquent pour décrire cette merveille de la nature.
Il y a une belle ballade à faire le long des falaises, les vues panoramiques incroyables sur la mer, la nature et les près où broutent les vaches et les moutons.
Il est possible aussi de visiter la tour O’Brien.
Le ticket coûte 6e pour un adulte et donne accès aux falaises et à l’exposition à l’intérieur de la galerie d’accueil.
Allez-​y pour voir ce site qui saura charmer les amoureux de nature et les photographes en herbe.
Ps: si le temps est dégagé, vous apercevrez les îles.

The Cliffs of Moher are absolutely breathtaking. They are a beautiful reminder of how magnificent nature can be. The pictures truly do not do them justice.

Wonders of Nature: Pictures don’t do the justice. This is a must visit to fully enjoy. It is like other wonders of nature. When you see them on pictures, you go «wow», but when you actually see them in person, you go «WOW». I visited here six weeks ago and really enjoyed one of the wonders of nature. I kept looking at pictures I took there and other pictures online and kept thinking if my pictures will describe the cliffs well and make others want to visit?
It is a little over four hours drive from Dublin and if you are just visiting from outside Ireland, might be easier if you just join a bus tour offered by several companies based in Dublin. The stop at the cliffs is about one to two hours during mid day.
It was such a challenging place to take pictures because of its colors and the way the sun light shines during mid day. I still think back if I could have done differently to make my pictures come out the way I like. The setting I used is F8.0 ISO400 shutter speed ¹⁄₄₀₀. Perhaps I should just enjoyed with my own eyes only and leave it with that.
Weather by the Cliffs could change by the hour. It could be sunny in Dublin but by the coast area, it could get windy and chilly. I recommend to dress in layers and bring gloves and hats to be prepared for any types of weather.
After seeing thousands of pictures online, I think the most beautiful time at the Cliffs could be during sunset. If I have another chance to visit Ireland, I would definitely rent a car and drive here and spend a night near the Cliffs to enjoy the beautiful view during different time of the day.

Cliffs of Moher is one of the most popular tourist destinations and natural attraction in Ireland. I’m sure we’ve all seen images of these cliffs in movies (The Princess Bride, Harry Potter and the Half-​Blood Prince, Leap Year, etc) but probably never noticed. After doing plenty of research prior to the trip, and the Cliffs of Moher being mentioned in every guide, I knew this is one destination we HAD to go!
We booked a day tour to go to the Cliffs of Moher and it was definitely worth the trip. The cliffs were absolutely beautiful and the scenery makes it all worthwhile. The views are spectacular — from the cliffs, sea, rocks, flowers, and the scenery. I was in the awe with the beauty of these cliffs with the ocean crashing below. The Cliffs of Moher are a good example of how beautiful nature can be. It is definitely a place you have to see for yourself because pictures simply do not do it justice!
There is a paved path with a wall that prevents visitors from getting near the edge but the path ends with a sign that says do not proceed. At this point everyone just walks around the sign and walk towards the edge. You can go off the beaten path (although still a path) while navigating the rim of the Cliffs. Here you are literally only a few feet away from falling over the edge of the cliffs. Many people were taking risks by getting far too close to the edges in my opinion. I didn’t really want to risk my life, or lose my camera.
Be prepared, it is very very windy and cold there. It’s chilly due to the wind and water, so dress appropriately.

The Cliffs of Moher, located just outside the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland, attract over a million visitors each year. Even if you haven’t ever been to Ireland you probably have seen these majestic cliffs from movies, including The Princess Bride, Harry Potter and the Half-​Blood Prince, and Leap Year. Reserve at least two hours to walk along the edge of the cliffs; more time if you plan to hike all of the trails. It’s a 700 foot drop to the bottom of the cliffs so I would not recommend dangling your legs over the edge of the cliffs as many thrill-​seeking (or stupid) tourists were doing.
Tickets are € 6 per adult, € 4 for seniors and students, and children under 16 are free. O’Briens Tower is an additional € 2 to climb, but I would advise skipping this tower. My husband insisted on climbing the tower while my sister and I waited below and he admitted the view was not much better at the top of the tower.
TIP: Wear comfortable shoes to explore the five mile stretch of cliffs.

Wer in West-​Irland ist, muss/​sollte auf jeden Fall einmal die Klippen von Moher besuchen. Die Aussicht dort ist wirklich sehr beeindruckend.

Es ist schon phantastisch, was einem die Natur hier bietet.
Es geht im übrigen auch ohne Massentourismus, wenn man die Möglichkeit hat, außerhalb der Hauptzeiten zu fahren.

Wunderschön und einfach nur der Wahnsinn!

Wenn man in Irland eine Rundreise unternimmt, dann sollte dieses (touristenüberlaufene) Naturwunder nicht ausgelassen werden!
Wenn man von dem wirklich gut gestalteten Touristenzentrum aufgebrochen ist, sich durch die Touristenmassen gen Süden zu schieben, wird es bald schon einsamer. Nur die, die wirklich die NAtur sehen wollen (und nicht aus einem der Busse gescheucht wurden um schnell ein paar Fotos zu machen), begegnen einem dann noch, wenn man an den Klippen entlangschlendern kann.
Anfangs sind die Klippen durch eine Steinwand gesichert, auf deren einen Seite man sich entlangbewegt. Diese Wand ist aber hervorragend in die Natur eingearbeitet, mit Natursteinen, so dass sie zwar auffällt aber nicht negativ. In einigen Reiseführern wurde diese Wand bemängelt, ich hingegen halte sie für absolut sinnvoll.
Und wie geschrieben: nach ca. 15min. Fußweg hört sie auf und man kann auf den ursprünglichen Wegen wandern.
Und diese Strecke lohnt sich! Man kann die Klippen immer wieder aus neuen Perspektiven betrachten wenn das Wetter mitspielt.
Wir hatten Glück, blauer Himmel und Sonnenschein. Leider minus 1 °C, aber nun gut. Dicke Mütze (und vor allem winddichte Kleidung), dann geht das allemal. Und der Ausblick entlohnt allemal :)
Das Parkticket kommt mit 6EUR auf den ersten Blick recht teuer daher. Dafür wird man mit einer hervorragenden Infrastruktur entschädigt: Saubere Toiletten, sehr saubere Wege, die Wege und Befestigungsanlagen waren in hervorragendem Zustand (das kann nach 6 Jahren auch anders aussehen). Und vergleicht man es mit den heutigen Preisen für eine Kinokarte, dann ist es allemal relativiert :)
Das Touristenzetrum ist eine Mischung aus MAssenabfertigung und Museum. Das Café und Restaurant wird überwiegend von Amerikanern, engländern und asiatischen Touristen aufgesucht (zumindest war das mein Eindruck). Das Museum war hingegen weitaus leerer kaum nachzuvollziehen, bei diesem hervorragend gestalteten Angebot an Information und Interaktion. Ich habe selten ein so gutes, spannend aufgebautem und interaktiven Museum gesehen wie hier. Also unbedingt besuchen und sich dafür ruhig nochmal 30 Minuten Zeit nehmen. Es lohnt sich! :)

Wie schön von vielen Beschrieben, ist leider nun alles perfekt organisiert und abgeschirmt. Das Besucher-​Zentrum ist schön gemacht, aber wer glaubt hier noch richtig nah an die Klippen zu kommen wird enttäuscht sein.
Unbedingt am Hafen von Doolin einen Ausflug mit dem Boot buchen (wenn See-​tauglich :-)) oder erst am Abend kommen, dann ist nicht mehr so viel los. Es kostet aber leider recht lange den vollen Eintritt.

Die Cliffs of Moher zu sehen, war mein persönliches Highlight in Irland! Diese gigantisch steilen Felswände auf 8 km Länge sind einfach beeindruckend. Ich habe es nicht eingesehen, Geld dafür zu zahlen, mir die Natur anzusehen, also bin ich etwas südlich des Besucherzentrums an den Feldern entlang gefahren und bin das letzte Stück vorgelaufen. Egal ob du Eintritt gezahlt hast oder nicht: Lass es dir nicht nehmen an den Cliffs entlangzulaufen, da völlig neue Blickwinkel möglich sind und keine Barrieren vorhanden sind und man sich somit auch an die Kante legen kann! Außerdem hat man nicht die gleichen Fotos wie 99% aller anderen Touristen, entgeht dem Kommerz und kann genießen! Ein Must-​Have jedes Irlandbesuchs!

Excellente merveilles de la nature. J’ ai visité le site lors d’un road trip en moto, en un mot: impressionnant. Lors de ma visite, le vents soufflé très fort: on avait l’impression de voir dame nature déchaînée pour la plus grand joie du photographe amateur que je suis.

Einer meiner Lieblingsplätze in Irland.
Überhaupt ist der ganze Westen und der Co. Clare für mich eine der schönsten Ecken auf unserem Planeten.
Wenn Ihr in der Nähe seit und schwindelfrei, unbedingt eine Besichtigung einplanen.

ich hatte schönes Wetter, kaum Touristen und war schwer beeindruckt. hab mir auch einen Blick nach unten gegönnt. dazu robbt man dann doch lieber auf allen vieren ran; aber das scheint ja nun nicht mehr möglich zu sein wie man hier lesen kann. schade eigentlich — der Eindruck bleibt aber doch erhalten als ein Ort den man gesehen haben sollte.

Jamás olvidaré mi visita a los acantilados de Moher allá por 1997. Es totalmente indescriptible lo que se siente contemplando el mar allá a lo lejos, rompiendo contra las rocas. Además, eso de verlo todo tan verde es una auténtica novedad para los que vivimos en zonas que están prácticamente en proceso de desertización.
Sin lugar a dudas, una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida.

Auch wenn es in der Zeit vor dem Besucherzentrum noch schöner war — Die Cliffs sind ein beeindruckender und toller Ort.
Ich war drei oder viermal da, meist bei schönem Wetter (von oben und von unten) und empfehle, möglichst früh morgens oder dann abends hinzugehen, da entkommt man den vielen Bustouristen, hat mehr Ruhe und entgeht dem Kommerz ein wenig.

Cliffs of Moher einer meiner Lieblingsplätze in Irland !! umbedingt besuchen !!

Ein sehr imposanter und sehenswerter Ort — da kann ich mich allen Vorrednern nur anschließen. Nachdem ich bereits drei Mal die Cliffs inklusive tollem Blick genossen habe, habe ich bei meinem letzten Besuch durch Zufall eine neue Möglichkeit gefunden, die Cliffs of Moher zu erkunden.
Auf der Suche nach einem schmucken B&B in Doolin sind wir einfach die Hafenstraße bis zum Ende durchgefahren. Am Ende dieser Straße erwartet einen ein kleiner Anlegeplatz für Ausflugsboote. Von hier aus starten Bootstouren, die die Cliffs vom Wasser aus präsentieren — auch sehr imposant!
Die Bootstour ersetzt nicht den «normalen» Besuch — ist aber eine schöné Ergänzung. Wer noch etwas Zeit hat, kann sich zusätzlich noch die Aran Islands im Anschluss gönnen.

natürlich sind die Cliffs of Moher eine touristenattraktion und damit bekannt wie überrant.
dankwemauchimmer aber nicht so, daß es sich nicht lohnen würde, diesen platz in die reiseplanung mitaufzunehmen.
wir waren anläßlich eines sippenurlaubes natürlich auch hier.
jedes mal, wenn ich daran denke (an EIRE), zieht es mich hierher, genauso, wie es wohl jeden in die tiefe zieht, der mal am rande gelegen oder gar gestanden hat (ich auch!).
leider gibt es da seit kuzem einige einschränkungen:

Leider wird seitdem auch die Sicht auf die Klippen eingeschränkt.“
unabhängig davon ist der platz auch zu jeder zeit und bei jedem wetter besuchenswert — bei strahlendem sonnenschein (was relativ selten hier ist) schon unbeschreiblich schön, kommt bei sog. schlechtem wetter die urgewalt und gleichzeitig erhabenheit der natur voll zur geltung.
anmut (malerisch) sparet nicht noch mühe (aufstieg) …

EIRE allgemein:

Wahrscheinlich gehöre ich zu den wenigen Qypern, die dazu gekommen sind, das zugehörige Center zu erkunden.
Ich war nämlich bei miesem Wetter an den Cliffs. Da war einem überhaupt nicht nach Wandern zu mute.
Wir waren froh, bis vorne mit dem Auto vorfahren zu können. Und wie waren wir erst recht froh, so etwas wie eine Regenjacke und feste Wanderschuhe zu besitzen!
Die übrigen Touristen, die so seltsame dünne Capes mit Mühe im Wind festhielten, sahen zum Schieflachen aus!
Bei dem Wetter sind wir natürlich nicht über die Absperrung geklettert! Und haben uns nicht bäuchlings hingelegt, um einen Blick dort runter zu erhaschen.
Viel mehr sind wir zurück ins warme Center und haben uns einmal mehr vom Überfluss der typisch irischen Touriläden überfluten lassen.
Man hat schnell einen Überblick und erkennt die Dinge, die man in anderen Läden noch nicht gesehen hat.
Besonders z.B. das «Bufett» am Ende des Raumes, wo wir uns mit heißer Schokolade, Scones und Muffins aufwärmten, bevor wir weiterfuhren!
Ich werde bestimmt irgendwann einmal bei besserem Wetter vorbeischauen und es sehr geniessen. Doch fürs erste werde ich mich den anderen Attraktionen zu wenden, wie dem Slieve Leauge zum Beispiel.
Die Cliffs sind mir zum Teil schon zu vermarktet.
