History

Established in 1953.

When Stephen’s father Philip started his Pottery 60 years ago he had no idea that he and his infant son would go on to build an internationally recognised design brand together.

Stephen started his own pottery in 1973 just a stone’s throw from his father’s studio, and when Philip died in 1993 Stephen merged the two Potteries into one. He continues to produce Philip’s much-​loved Shanagarry range of black and white handmade earthenware, which is as popular and far more in style than it ever was in the fifties! Stephen’s own Classic range of terracotta and white is known and loved by families around the world.

The clay for both ranges is dug locally from the banks of the river Blackwater and processed on site. Nothing is added to this except spring water, as each piece undergoes at least 18 individual hand processes on its way.
