This church is one of the best examples of 19th century Church architecture in Britain and Ireland, yet it does not receive the interest it should. Sitting at the heart of the town this was the work of renowned architect John Semple who improved upon the original 18th century building to bring it close to what we see today. At the moment it seems there is some restoration work going on to the exterior of the building however it has mainly been concentrated on the back of the building. Inside one is treated to a fantastic organ and choir area with simple yet effective windows drawing the eye upwards. In previous years the church has been used for performances to great effect during the DL Festival of World Cultures, this is of course as an addition to the usual prayer service which continues regularly within the church. Also keep an eye out for the farmers market on the church grounds most Sunday mornings. It’s a real heart of the town.
