History
Established in 1995.
The Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links is built on part of the former Jameson Whiskey family estate. The original house dates back to 1847 and was resided in by William Jameson who was a personal friend of the then Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII. In 1907 King Edward VII and his wife Queen Alexandra visited to unveil a plaque in the garden to commemorate the marriage between members of two great whiskey families — Haig and Jameson. This plaque survives today and is the focal point of the garden and a cast is also on display behind reception. Willie Jameson as he was known, was a great yachtsman and gave a yacht to the Prince of Wales which was renamed Royal Britannia. When Willie was offered a title for his kind gift, he refused as he said the name Jameson was known worldwide by those who drank anyway!
The original house is now home to the famous Jameson Bar with its panelled walls and ornate ceiling, the Bunker Bar and conservatory. Each area can be used independently.
