History

Established in 1910.

We are very proud to be one of Dublin’s longest family independentely run business.

Deveney’s was set up in 1910 by Michael and Catherine Deveney. They raised a family of 9 behind the shop in Church Gardens. The shop the used to sell oats for horses and groceries. Micahel died early on and Catherine was left to rear the family, after Catherine passed away the shop was left to her eldest daughter Rosie who was a tough business women! Her nephew Martin and his sister Ann and mother Masie came to live in Rathmines in the mid 60’s when Masie’s husband Alban passed away. Martin ran the store from the beginning and turned the grocery business into an Off Licence in 1977 and has grown the shop into a very successful business. His family have all being involved in the business working partime during school and college. His eldest daughter Niamh is currently taking over the business and is looking forward to continuing the family tradition.
